I think many of these people do it for the experience, to be seen, and to "commune" with other Apple Acolytes. I'm not demeaning them, just saying...

oh please, most of them are not there for the right reason. i've seen scalpers' ads on multiple Chinese forums looking for people to line up, they get paid $400 per person if they can buy 2 iPhone 6+, $200 for iPhone 6.

This whole line up thing in Australia is a sham

The social "we are of the same species!"-geek aspect. And it is an experience of course, one that you'll tell your grandchildren about, even though they don't get it either.

Yeah, it was fun the first time, slightly fun the second time. After that, at least for me, I got bored of it. After the 3GS, the iPad was slightly more fun. I don't think I've queued since then. I might tell my kids about how I lined up for the original iPhone, and they might find it mildly interesting as they are more likely to understand the historical significance. But I really doubt that someday my grand kids will even know what I'm talking about, and tell my daughter they should put me in a home. Euthanasia will probably be legal by then due to overpopulation, and I'll be pressed into dog food.

Well that got dark fast. I really need to stop reading the news first thing in the morning.

Here come the attack ads from Samsung poking fun at all the people lining up for iPhones... while nobody lines up for new Samsung products.

Where are the extension cords? Are there power sockets in the floor there? I thought they're supposed to be hugging walls?

I saw Chatswood's line around 6:30PM after work, it already looked ridiculous. It was nothing compared to George St, of course, but it was enough to make getting around for other shoppers quite awkward.

That's what the internet is for...

I don't get these people. Just preorder on the internet and it shows up on your door step. Why waste you time sitting in lines. And you know they will be back in a few months for their :apple: Watches. Oh the stupidity.

Love the photos. All the kiddies sitting patiently, texting on their perfectly good iPhone 5s's.

True fan in japan.

Do you think getting to an AT&T store early tomorrow will get me one? Hearing about shortages and pushed back pre orders makes me think they won't have much extras if any on hand. Thoughts? Or should I just tough it out and wait at Apple all day?

There are many, many things that most would consider more fun than that... A visit to the dentist, rectal exam, a Celine Dion concert, watching Apple's attempt at a keynote live stream...

Personally, and call me crazy for this - I pre-ordered last week through the O2 store near where I work, I received the email today that my phone was in-store for collection tomorrow, I shall walk into said store tomorrow and walk out with my phone. No camping required! It seems a lot easier and less stressful than the odd behaviour exhibited by many in these photos.

Out of interest, what would you do if you received another text, saying "Dear Mr Jimrod, thanks for letting us know you'd like to cancel the pre order for your iPhone 6, you money has been refunded, thanks for being an O2 customer"?

Now you find yourself, through no fault of your own, without a launch day iPhone and the same O2 store doesn't have any spare stock at all?

Would you go and queue in the hope of bagging yourself one?

How so? I doubt a percentage of line sitters anywhere above 10% for scalpers.

Even if it were so, who is paying $400 per person? Isn't the person is paying the $400 per person desiring an iPhone? So these are legitimate sales then. The person paying the $400 isn't doing it just so he can help Apple's sales and going to throw the phone away.

Apple's iPhone 6 will be a success no matter how badly you hate it. The iPhone IS a better experience for many people no matter how much it is not a better experience for you.

I might like a donut for breakfast, you might like a bagel. Why would you argue on the donut message boards about bagels being better? I don't argue in the bagel boards about why donuts are better. I know my preference, and don't care what other people choose. You do. Why?

If by "one" you mean an iPhone 6? Yes.

If by "one" you mean an iPhone 6+? No.

AT&T have been told they won't be receiving any of the 6+ on launch day. I suspect they've blown all their allotment on pre-orders and even then, most people I know who ordered the 6+ on pre-order are having to wait weeks to get it.

It's sad that you think the launch of a consumer product that will be forgotten about in a year is an "experience". These people need real experiences.......

Like what? hanging out with you? You sound like lots of fun....

I think there are more scalpers in line than you might think. This doesn't mean that people aren't hyped for this launch or that the sales aren't going to break records. Pre-orders already broke records.

But, with pre-orders available to the rest of us, most people who wanted it launch day have likely opted for pre-orders and this means that a good chunk of people in line WILL be scalpers.
