That's not changing their ways, cook said stuff is in the pipeline all along.
Maybe you should read the story, it clearly wasn't in Tim's fictional pipeline. They finally saw pros leaving and are trying to fix it. This is a response to a failure, not a planned product. Man you really are Tim's biggest fan. He could take a leak on you, tell you it's raining, and you would tell everyone how wonderful the rain feels! Geez!

If I'm Tims biggest fan you are his biggest anti-fan? Tim could serve you Apple on a 5 star platter and you would complain about the quality of the food.

I read the article and it dovetails with what Tim said in the past. Maybe you should reread it.

Oh, Cook's no dummy. I've commented many times that he'll copy anything Samsung does if he thinks he's losing too many sales to them.

However, figuring out later on that he was missing a market, does not make Cook's original claims any less ironic, and it certainly doesn't make him look very insightful.

It's no different than when Ballmer claimed people prefer physical keyboards and then changed to touch keyboards later on when it became apparent he was wrong.

Attempted ad hominem nonsense. Commenting on the past does not make one unable to see the future. In fact, it's past lessons that teach us the most about needing to look forward.

And with Apple, another lesson is to never take seriously what their CEO says disparagingly about a competitor's features.
Tim's strategy is pretty simple. Keep things stale for years on end while the competition innovates and comes out with new features. Then once he has milked the existing features to death and sales start flatlining he will finally take a look at the competition copy heir features and suddenly everyone goes crazy over the iPhone super cycle when in reality it's a few years of pent up demand exploding at one time. It happened with the iPhone 6 and it's going to happen with the iPhone 8. Now once 8 is out it's time to sleep on till Android comes out with foldable displays and features like Dex and then copy em sometime in 2021.

He updated the Mac Pro only when he realised the bad name Apple was getting with Mac users. Amd the funny thing is that Mac Pro is still weaker than the PC desktop in my house lol

It's a "simple" strategy that netted them 75b last quarter. Some customers are buying their products. even when jobs didn't see the future of bigger phones Timmy released the iPhone 6, which as we know made Apple the most valuable company and was a block buster success.

Sales haven't flattened since 2011. And if Apple copies dex apples version will die a slow death also.

Ad-Homs and insults? Got it.

Amd once again you deflect to sales. They are not a mark of how innovative a company is by the way. Samsung is he only relevant manufacturer on Android which makes money but there are tons of other OeMs who are more innovative than Samsung.

And the iPhone 6 was something which would have come out any way with any CEO at the helm as the market was clamouring for larger phones. Cook came out with something Android had made standard a long time ago. There is nothing innovative about he 6. It's an oversized 5s.

Apple has truly stagnated. I only need confirmation of how pricey the Edition is before I jump ship myself. It's time to speak with my wallet. I will probably have to compromise the ecosystem part of it but there's no option. And I know I am not alone

It does not. It does not at all. They explained that the Mac Pro was a mistake and not designed for its audience. But whatever dude. You just like the sound of your own voice and fighting for the sake of fighting. Have fun fighting with everyone.

And once again you fail to understand that sales and revenue is the final arbiter of who stays and who goes. The iPhone 6 maybe would have come out of any CEO, except jobs who missed it similar to the iPad mess he created. There is no standard on phone size like there is no standard in engine size. You can't copy a box.

To me Apple continues to be innovative, but if you want to jump ship you should. You may not be alone, but Apple will survive.

Wow, pot kettle thing. Doesn't seem like your opinion is the last word on anything.

To be in a place that is stuck, with pretentious greedy management and being a person with a lot of creativity and ambitious... is like being dead a live. Time to go.
Couldn't have said it better. Spot on.

3 years.

Also an industrial designer wouldn't be worth his/her salt if he/she only cared about the exterior.
iPhone SE is a 5 year old design. iPhone 5 was released in 2012, the same thing is still on the shelf as iPhone SE in 2017. The Apple company has killed and will continue to kill creative individuals through its management's stupidity.

He was referencing the iPhone 6, 6S, 7 using a 4 year old design.

The iPhone 6 was released in Sept 2014, so it's been LESS THAN 3 YEARS actually.

The Apple company has killed and will continue to kill creative individuals through its management's stupidity.

Have you thought about going into politics?

iPhone's 6/6s/7 same design has been available in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017. That's four calendar years. And I'm referencing SE -- Apple's other jurassic cellular phone.
It's all pretty embarrassing for Apple.

Dwarfed by Samsung, dwarfed by Android. It could all be very different. It could all be better.
What's dwarfed? Revenue and profits? Because in the end that's what counts. And who is to say any one strategy will be better or worse. It seems they are giving who Apple deems the customer base products that are selling, even if you or I don't agree with their strategy.

Wow, pot kettle thing. Doesn't seem like your opinion is the last word on anything.

My original post was on how Tim copies the competition. Who stays and who goes had nothing to do with my post. You brought up that unrelated point.

Again if Android hadn't flooded the market with large devices we wouldn't have seen a larger iPhone just like how we wouldn't have seen an iPhone with an OLED display had Android not flooded the market with OLED displays.

iPhone 6 is a result of people like me clamouring for large screens just like how customers like me are clamouring for OLED. Apple simply listened. And the reason we want these feature is because we looked at Android.

iPad isn't Steve's fault. When he died it was doing awesome. It's not Steve's fault Tim doesn't know what to do with the iPad except recycle the same tablet again and again at different price points while ignoring the software aspect of it. With rehashed tablets being released year after year no wonder sales are tanking. Steve already handed Timmy a cash cow with the iPhone. Did you want him to do all his work for him?

Your point is invalid. You can't copy a rectangular shaped object.

So you admit that apple listened to it's customers, probably through customer focus groups, rather than blindly copying the competition?

Ipad mess is jobs' fault. Period. He should have released the ipad with the requisite capabilities to carry it through the next 10 years. Since he was so adept in reading the market... he missed this one and how the market might change. Timmy made iphone into a cash cow. It's tough to admit Jobs wasn't perfect and I expected more based on what everybody seems to be posting here.

Yup which is why I am done with Apple. I spent over 1500 dollars on this lame old design with huge bezels. If Apple doesn't give me a new redesign at $969 with the iPhone 8 I am off to a company which actually cares for customer satisfaction meaning 64GB base storage and a huge redesign.

For 4 years Apple was mocking large screens on Android making a point of how you can't hold them with one hand and blah blah blah. Once the pressure built high enough they copied their Android equivalents with their large screens just like how they are copying their Android competition right now by removing the bezels.

I actually still commend Apple in a way for keeping the SE in the lineup. It's a unique phone because there is no phone on Android which can be handled with one hand. That's called "not" copying the competition and their hype for large screens.

This still means they copied Android as the idea was sourced with Android.

If Android hadn't gone all large screen we would still be stuck on 4 inches just like how we would be stuck on LCD had Android not gone OLED

Why should Jobs do everything for Timmy? He invented 3 product lines. Some even say that he was aware of Apple Watch and that he had cracked the TV. Brought Apple out of bankruptcy . Seems he did a lot in his lifetime.

Timmy is being paid an 7 figure sum to innovate. Jobs when he was dying made sure neither the iPhone or iPad tanked even once and that's what he was paid to do . And that's because every single year was an innovation with the guy

Timmy made iphone into a cash cow. It's tough to admit Jobs wasn't perfect and I expected more based on what everybody seems to be posting here.

The iPhone was already a huge chunk of Apple's income when Jobs died. It was unstoppable even if you handed that lineup to a total dol

Yes Jobs wasn't perfect which is why he chose Tim for CEO

Yes, jobs was mocking large screen phones else he would have done one.

Revisionist history.

Not doing it for Timmy, doing it for Apple and he missed it big time.

Timmy made the iPhone bigger figuratively and financially. Jobs wasn't perfect but bringing Timmy aboard was a good thing, iPads not so much.

Make that price $699.

The original iPhone was introduced at $599.

I think after being at Apple for twenty years I'd just hang out on a boat and never wear pants again. Shorts flip flops, and follow the sun

I heard he's why everything is so thin. I am super excited for 2-3mm more battery space in the new "fat" devices with 2x the battery life!

I would love to pay a surcharge for an Apple laptop with a user-replaceable battery and memory like in my old blackjack... Order the new bit, pop it in when it shows up... and I'd put up with the extra space and weight required to have user-accessible memory and batt compartments (and a single-piece batt instead of those odd shaped forms lying around in the innards of the newer machines.

Sure I was totally impressed the the original Air, and I have appreciated the lighter weight even just moving it up and down stairs in my house. But the extreme thinness thing has begun to wear on me. I've stuck w/ 2012 MBPs lately hoping for some common sense to re-emerge. Guess I'm going to have to develop a new sense of what "common sense" means pretty soon though. And of course give up on my idea of what "a standard set of ports" means...
