The person in the original pic should get a long band and use it as an ankle bracelet and garner some street cred.

The size of it is definitely an acquired taste on a smaller wrist. It would look absolutely ridiculous on me but then I’m not keen on the design anyway so won’t buy it. Some people like really big watches and some think they look hilarious. I’m in the latter camp but it takes all sorts.

I think I could maybe deal with it being 49mm (though it might look bad on my sub-7” wrist. The bigger issue is probably the thickness - from both an aesthetic and functional perspective. It always annoyed me in the past when one of my watches wouldn’t fit under a shirt sleeve.

I’ll definitely go try one on when they’re in stores, out of curiosity if nothing else. I am pretty sure I won’t like the size on me, but I’d love the extra battery life for longer activities.

It also might be wise to wait one year for people that don’t annually upgrade. Apple has a tendency to focus on internal upgrades after external.

A very masculine looking watch…I’d buy it within a heartbeat if I had £850 burning a hole on my pocket.

I wonder if Apple will bring out a version that looks and feels the same but with some of the hi spec features missing and call it the pro version.

Or you just flex with one of these.

What’s it with these reviewers and their inability to pronounce button?

Hodinkee has some pics on a seemingly more average sized male wrist.
I just went over to Hondikee's site and had a look at the images. I am quite surprised. I think the size looks actually quite OK. I ordered the regular Series 8, but I will try on the Apple Watch Ultra in an Apple Store someday soon. Maybe I'll be in the market for the next iteration.

They can return it & get a series 8 instead. The only drawback would be needing to wait as the 8 will probably still be back ordered.
I may be in that case. We’ll see, about the 8 there are plenty in stock available! If I return the Ultra I’ll pick up the 8 the same day. Only drawback is that I cannot return the Ultra physically in a store as I ordered it online on the Apple Store. Same thing for your in the US?

No, here we can do both in store. I did order both - online, of course. I have the 8 already & am just waiting on the Ultra for the comparison. Whichever one I don’t keep I’ll return at the store Friday.

Michael Josh on GadgetMatch wears a Size 5 solo loop and the watch looks massive on his wrist lol

I think the shape is more of a detriment at this size than the actual size. I've been wearing 51mm Fenix's (and now Enduro) as daily drivers since the beginning and I have pretty bony wrists. I just think it's easier to pull off an oversized round watch just because it's more of an accepted thing and how it fits on the wrist. In the past, there very much was a fashion trend towards larger dive or aviator watches, but this is more of a "slab" that seems very similar to what I remember in the 80s with calculator watches, which just were aesthetically different. I am looking forward to see how the feel of this watch is, but something tells me it's going to feel larger than 49mm and likely larger than a round 51mm.

I’ll be all over it if I can get one tomorrow for surfing, have used a catalyst case so size wont worry me.
