Judging by the photo in the first post...

That watch is WAY.... WAY...

smaller than my iPhone Pro Max.

Yet it can do everything my phone needs to do when I'm out in the wilderness in snowshoes etc (ok, aside from photos) And - it's attached to my body... Not like my phone... Etc etc...

The ultra is going to be perfect for some of us who don't want to keep pulling out a phone... Plus I'm not trying to impress other people with my watch when there are bears and other dangers all around lol

BEAR, check out this watch cuh… (activate the danger alarm) *sprints away*

I doubt many will buy this as a piece of jewelry, but as a tool, so does it matter?
Of course it does. On a small wrist, a large rigid surface could impede wrist mobility, would catch on surfaces, increased drag while swimming, reduced comfort. As someone who is constantly using tools, ppe, equipment that is designed for bodies (average male) that aren’t like mine (short female with tiny hands), I’m very aware that “one size fits all” does not mean one size functions for all

Thank to Chase the summit the ultra is ont really big than garmin

My man just brought a pocket full of watches with him? 🤣 great photo though!
Not a photo. He added an image of the Ultra to his actual watches and made clear that the size was based on his estimate of what it will look like in real life.

I guess this is a foolish question but what size is considered a small wrist?
If anyone can talk in terms of Solo Loop size, I would be very grateful. Small is less than size 3? 4?
I think the 45mm if you buy it with a Solo Loop has a minimum size of 4, right?

I'm 6'6" and about 270lbs. I wear a XXL tshirt. I bet if you put my tshirt on whoever that person (most likely a KID) is in the picture, it would look ridiculous as well.

So, What are you trying to say???? Not every product is meant for every person. They make smaller watches. Pick one of those.

by far, the most relevant and common sense post in this thread to date !

In the horology world, the trend of large oversized watches is on the decline (IMO thankfully).

Although both Apple and Garmin have smaller sized options, the sportswatch market is going the opposite direction. Probably more to do with technical requirements of needing more space for batteries.

Fashion is subjective. And if you want to rock a 49mm on your skinny wrist in business attire, go for it. Personally I wouldn't, but I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to proportions and appropriateness.

I always liked the bigger watches those guys wear. I was just too ashamed to admit it at the time. I dont care anymore and I love the bigger watch. This watch is very handsome IMO. This watch says to me that “I’m disciplined enough to workout regularly and I can deliver for your business”.

Why no other colors? I'd do it in midnight. That thing is huge, I'd love to see the flat face on the 8.
I was wondering the same as I’d prefer Space Black but one of the YouTubers made a valid point. Since this is designed for ruggedness/extreme sports, they probably just went with bare metal so the painted casing doesn’t look like crap after all the abuse it’s meant to endure.

Yes, I did manage to scratch the hell out of my SBTi S6 on some rock.

Why ? .... large watches are commonplace ...... personal choice really
Large watch fad is gone (Thank God). This is obviously more of a tool to wear on top of work suit or scuba suit to have bigger visuals. But it looks ridiculous on small wrist.

How exactly do the sensors work if its obviously more of a tool to wear on top of clothing ?

I totally wanted a new watch coming from a S5 44mm B/T, but something tells me the regular Watch lineup will have a new redesign with flatter screen, and probably a legit bump in Health tracking features next year.

Hate to say it, but I think this is a skip year again for me… the Ultra is intriguing, but even the second gen of that would probably be the way to go IMO. YMMV. Glad to see the Ultra tho, good things are happening.

That said, once I see a Ultra I will probably like it and just get it lol.

We'll have to wait until Ultra Series 3 or so until they release smaller sizes in that form factor.

I've ordered the Ultra. Not for fashion. Not for the dive computer, even though it's very cool. I'm a senior grandma and doubt I'll be diving soon.:) Nor will I be doing extreme hiking or marathons. I do have a 165mm wrist, so I think the size won't be a problem for me.

So why the Ultra?

I have been getting a new aw every year since series 0. Had a regular 8 ordered and changed my mind and ordered the Ultra.

It has 2 speakers and tech support said the volume is 40% louder because of that. My hearing isn't that great, so the extra volume, especially on calls, will be welcome.

The screen is only slightly larger, but it is brighter, so that should help my (gasp!) elderly eyes.

I hate to admit it, but I'm a bit clumsier these days. The rugged case will help protect the watch with occasional inadvertent bashing.

Of course the longer battery life is a real plus for anyone.

The alarm could prove helpful to me. I don't anticipate getting lost in the wilderness, even though I do live next to one. My neighbors are close by, as the lots are narrow due to the limited area on the mountain ridge top. If I get into trouble, I should be able to call them if I get into trouble. Plus I'll be training my dog to come to that signal, which he should hear at even a greater distance than people can. I sure can't chase after him anymore!

I propose changing the name to Apple Watch 8 Senior Version. 🤣🤣

I think many will as they are attracted to the style and Apple's pitch. Those that use the Ultra as a tool wont care about the size, they will be far more focused on features & specifications that meet their needs. Majority of such watches are large so nothing new here.

There's more capable and more durable on the market, just a matter what fit's the need. I value battery life over everything else. So I'll stick my Casio with limited GPS functionality, equally It has a Backtrack feature and accurate location data and that's all I want. Rest is pretty much expected for a digital ABC watch features.

Most of all I trust this device and it's not going to runout of power (solar) unless you don't get how the watch works...

In my view this is one of the least foolish questions, I would like to know also? It’s not that I’m “worried” about being normal or big or small but it helps purchasing decisions to no small amount to know what size wrist the OP photo’s wrist is, along with the other good pics others have posted. Still looking for this answer in particular for the photos!

It's a personal question; AW Ultra on a 6" wrist wouldn't likely look it's best in the office. Halfway up Scafell or any other hill, nobody will remotely care nor likely in the office TBH.

I wear both technical and mechanical timepieces, yet to have anyone negatively comment on my choice of the day. Vast majority don't care, curious at best. Some do care as a function of dress, equally one should be aware of such circumstance and if not you'll be out of dress...
