Looking Back at Rumors of iPhone X Design With Rear Touch ID That Never Emerged

Rear TouchID would have been soooo useful in this post pandemic, masked world.
I would agree, but I think it would’ve been still just as beneficial to have Face ID and touch ID on the rear. But like Apple, nobody could’ve predicted a pandemic when the iPhone X was released back in 2017.

But having alternative biometric security method, just isn’t how Apple operates.

The rear fingerprint scanner is the best option. For those of you that have used one on an android phone, you know what I'm talking about it. It's natural, fast, and looks great.
It looks great?

You wouldn’t even see it if it’s on the rear the phone and then add a case on the phone as well.

Removal of the Home button from the iPhone and iPad was a design mistake.

Changed the platform from an intuitive universal appliance to one that requires training classes to master. Readers of this forum may think it's trivial to learn the new gestures. It is not. Physical silence, volume, close, and home buttons were the perfect spec for an electronic appliance, IMO.

I’ve never taught any kids how to use the iPad, and I’m sure their parents didn’t sneak them off to high level training classes when I wasn’t looking, BUT, amazingly enough, they pick it up pretty quick. For anyone that got used to the old way of doing things and refuse to learn the new way, I can imagine it’d be tough. But, even Apple’s “Tips” app is good at introducing features over time (I left it on just to see what your average person would get as “tips”).

Touch ID was so much better than Face ID. Face ID drives me nuts -- I'm not sure what the ratio of unlocking my phone with Face vs. being forced to type my passcode is but it's very high. I miss being able to stealthily unlock my phone in a meeting instead of having to hold the thing up to my face. And now especially post-covid, Face ID has become even more useless...

Was really excited for iPhone X. TouchID under the screen would have been good. Love FaceID ever since it was introduced. Remember the many rumours of iPhone X. I had really wanted the rumoured gold colour. Was really disappointed that it was not released. Had to make do with silver iPhone X.

I have used a few android phones with touch id on the back and found the phone locked up for too many bad touch attempts while in my pocket to be most frustrating
