Well like I said, I own the PRS-200. The face of my watch is a dark-ish blue. It's a bit shiny, which makes it look nice. I wear it with a dark brown watchband, which looks lovely. I don't think it could pull off a black band, not with the blue face.

Do you have a photo of your watch handy? I'd love to see it.

go for a Tissot T-Touch
acts as a compass, altimeter, barometer, thermometer, chronograph, and alarm. All accessible with touching the glass, if you're ever stranded in an island, this is what you need, truly the swiss army knife of watches. :D

Definetely Tissot. I own a PR50 Chronograph and it is a great watch. I've never used the chronograph function though, I just like the extra dials. :D

Not handy, but here's one I just took. The watch is 8 years old, while the band is 1 years old. :)

Excellent, thanks so much. Looks great.

I'm about to put a brown band on my blue faced watch, so I was curious to see what it could look like.

Thanks again!

Gawd OP, you don't want a watch, you want a "mine sweeper"... LOL

I've attached the same watch (Pic #2) that I've owned for the past 15 years and it's kept it's resale value, (though I got it as a gift from my parents).

Pic #1: Raymond Weil (Parsifal) another watch that I picked up recently.

Pic #2: Raymond Weil (Tradition) Quartz 18k Gold Plated Men's Watch with anti-reflective-sapphire glass; you can probably pick one up for about $550

Wow, what a coincidence! Went to the jewellery store recently to look at watches, partly because of this thread. The other reason is that my parents want to get me pen for my graduation. I told them that I don't care about pens, and would rather own a nice watch. ;)

Anyway, I looked around, and one that really caught my eye was

THIS Raymond Weil classic. I love the blue dial. I guess I love gimmicky colours and such, but oh well.

Actually, what REALLY caught my eye at the shop was THIS watch, but it costs far more than the other one, so it will have to do. The discount I could have gotten wasn't as big, either.

Update...

Thanks for all the continued input, it's been great seeing more people contribute to the thread (and congrats to Abstract on the new watch). I went to the mall yesterday and got to take a look at the Victorinox Classic Chrono in person, and I was really impressed. It didn't seem too big for me, looked even better than in the photos, and it was even on sale 25% off. Unfortunately, the store only had the watch with a blue dial so I had to order one in black. It should be here on Wednesday, I'll probably post a photo or two once it arrives. Thanks again for all the replies!

I received my watch via UPS yesterday, and after getting it sized I couldn't be happier with my purchase. :D Here's a photo:

So many of the watches that have been posted have too many functions that I seriously doubt that people ever use. What is the appeal of having so much visual noise in the watch?

I was never a chrono fan either. Some people love them though. To each their own.

Personally I like the minimalist approach. Probably why I like the Movado w. one dot and ultra slim.

A lot of people like the Crono look but really I do not see what you mean by the lot of extra functions unless you are taking just about the Crono funtion.

The other stuff (day and date) seem to be fairly commonly every day function used. At least used mine at least once a day.

I guess I never really looked closely or understood what these additional dials are. If they are for day and date, then, yes, they would be useful. Is that what the functions are that are shown on the watches in the posts above (e.g., Tissot)? Even then, the watches are so visually busy, it makes it difficult to just see the time. I must be getting old.

I agree. My watch has four roman numerals (XII, III, VI, IX) and straight lines for the rest of the hours, and that's plenty for me. My watch is incredibly thin with a small face.

I don't think it's because you're getting old; I'm only 21 and I agree with you.

I love my watch.

It seems like there are plenty of members here who know a thing or two about watches, so I figured I'd ask for some input before I make a purchase. I'm looking to buy my first "nice" watch, something that's a definite upgrade from my current Fossil. I definitely want a metal band and black or silver face with a chronograph. The absolute maximum I'll spend is $500, but I'd prefer to find a watch to my liking closer to $350...I don't spend money on myself often, so I do want to get something nice, I guess it's a bit of a reward for a 4.0 GPA during my first semester of college. I don't know too much about watches, but I've been doing some reading/research recently...Some brands I've considered are Citizen, Seiko, Tissot, and Victorinox/Swiss Army. My current favorite is the Victorinox Chrono Classic. I haven't been able to find much information or many reviews of Victorinox watches, so I would be interested in what anyone has to say about the brand and their watches. Finally, if anyone has links to reputable online watch retailers that would be great. I'd like to buy my watch at a store, but it seems like some makes/models are much easier to find online, and I would only want to buy through certified, well-known online stores. Thanks in advance!

I've always had excellent luck with Seiko Kinetic watches. They are stylish, rugged, available at Costco, do not require a battery, and long lasting. I have had mine for 7 years now with no complaints. My father has long been a fan of Versace watches, but for my money, I think you're paying for a name.

I was just thinking about watches myself and this is a good thread.
I like swiss army and now I will look at skagen.

Great looking watch, enjoy it.

I love my black Movado and my latest addition, a Rolex Daytona. Handed down by my dad for Christmas.

Great thread. I was following it while it was active...... I didn't have anything to post at the time, but it got me thinking about getting a new watch.

Today, I was at a mall, and ended up getting a Tissot PRC 200 after casually browsing a watch store. It was just too nice and the price was just too good for me to pass up.

Here it is:

Congrats on the new watch Surely, looks great! When I was still looking for my watch the Tissot PRC 200 and PRS 200 both caught my eye, they're really sharp.
