I missed a delivery from DHL, and signed the back of the tag. The thing was, it was sign on delivery, but the DHL guy was too lazy to check the box that said that until the second attempt. If I would have known I would have been by the door instead of in the backyard, but instead I have to drive to their building.

I received a computer from DHL once that was sticking out of the side of the box. The box had a big rip in the side of it. They left in on my porch like that when I wasn't even home. I know many like them and everyone seems to have a horror story about a different shipping company, but that is why I dislike DHL..I typically refer to them as DHell at work when we've had to ship stuff out with them.

Sorry about your loss. Try pressuring DHL to fork up $2500 if they can't find the laptop. Always ask for managers when you talk to DHL reps, although I'm assuming DHL will contact you instead due to the "Escalated" status of your delivery.

Also, it might be a good idea if you contact Apple and see if your HDD was reformatted. That should help ease your Data Loss Problem if they did.

I mean, once you know from Apple that they did a fresh start of your HDD, your only problem left will be pressuring DHL to pay for the loss (if they can't find it that is) [This is assuming your only problem here is the data loss and that you feel confident DHL can replace your Mac]

As per, shipping companies, I've had my bad share with DHL and with Fedex. As per UPS, they have been prompt and on time every time. 10 AM deliveries for me almost every shipment (with the exceptions of 1 PM deliveries). just my 2 cents...

Well, i got a phone call from some Apple rep. in Austin today saying they found it. (????).

It was originally shipped off for corrupt graphics when waking from sleep sometimes (requiring a restart) and "white" or "grey" spots on the screen.

The said the screen was pressure damage and usually not covered (BS) and that because of all the shipping problems they would take care of it this time. When i asked if the other issue required a logic board replacement he said he wouldn't know.

Any ideas on the first issue? I'm worried as it's the highly faulty nvidia card, but the issue only presents itself 3-6 times a month. If they can't replicate do they go off of the "genius's" word?

I'm pretty sure if it was a applecare issue and Apple paid for the package to be shipped, it was insured. While it is not Apple's fault that the package was lost, you should be insured for the complete value of your laptop. I'm not 100% sure on this but I'm almost positive. It wouldn't make sense for Apple not to insure it for this very reason. It takes the blame out of their hands and puts it on DHL.
