I'd rather see that than a have a product demonstrated performing better than what it actually does in real life. Siri is great, but it's not perfect.

LOL you can have your subpar products.

Of course Siri isn't perfect, but she's A LOT better than whatever Android cooked up, as the world obviously saw.

Ice Cream Sandwich looks amazing.

Not knocking iOS in anyway, but I can't imagine anyone not finding the UI of iOS tame after seeing ICS. If it's an issue of stability, bare in mind that stock Android has come a long way and is far more stable and usable than what it used to be.

The phone itself is love or hate (though it's ironic people are put off by the lack of high-specs for the Galaxy Nexus when it's one of the arguments to justify some of iPhone's lower specs compared to the market. Also ironic that in the argument that Apple isn't interested in a "spec-race," that members often taut the high PPI of Retina Display).

I think ICS will turn heads of anyone remotely interested in Android.

Goes to show how good the Galaxy S II's specs were that was already released six months ago. It held up very well. Compared from the Galaxy S and iPhone 4, both Samsung and Apple gave their successor a dual core, better GPU, better camera (8MP/1080p), and both retained the same resolution.

But here is the thing -

Samsung gave its GSII a bigger screen and double the RAM (1 GB).

Apple gave its iP4s(iri) a new voice assistant that still is in BETA.

Camera capability is a push. Some say Apple is better and some say Samsung is better. But understand, Samsung released these specs back in MWC in Feb and released the GSII six months earlier. And it shocks me to think Apple no longer has the thinnest smartphone. It now has one of the "fattest" smartphones. And having it to be the thinnest was always something they noted in their keynote.

To me, a bigger screen is what most people wanted all along over anything. That was the most asked feature. Apple gave us a better camera and Siri. Not exactly things we all NEED but they marketed it like we wanted it. Apple simply gave its new iPhone three newer things - Siri, better camera, and the A5 chip. The last two things are logical to get upgraded. Almost every model this year will have a better CPU/GPU and camera compared to last year's models. That is a given. So the only real exclusive thing iPhone 4S got is Siri which will be used for iPhone 4 users via jailbreak.

I think Samsung giving us 720p screen at 4.65 inches with a 316ppi shouldn't be overlooked here. If this was Apple, people would go nuts for it.

I'm not buying either devices (Galaxy Nexus or 4S), so you can have you're opinion back.

It's funny how you make these assumptions off only one demonstration and never actually using the product yourself. Maybe I'd take you more seriously if you had actually used the product.

you sound like a hater. I don't see how anyone who is a fan of tech can't be excited by this. annoying how people join camps like this

From what I've read the Nexus has a 5MP camera. Not sure why they didn't put a 8MP camera in it.

It doesn't need it. MP are only good for bigger pictures. Who's printing posters off phones?

Or possibly a battery issue? Look at how the 4S camera decimates the battery

It apparently doesn't need features that work either, according to your logic.

I was completely underwhelmed. 4.0 is nothing more than bug fixes, some pieces copied from iOS, and a few new ones that didn't even work (face unlock).

The Nexus is meh? Screen looks okay. Other than that, not much of a wow.

Talk about a bold statement. Especially considering Apple pretty much ripped different parts of the notifications center directly from Android, WebOS and Windows Phone 7.

Let's also not act like Apple hasn't had stumbles at thier events as well. "Everyone turn off their wi-fi or leave!" ring a bell?

At this point, most honestly all look and operate the same for the average consumer. The customer's I've seen buying them have mainly been going off of name recognition, phones their friends suggest, and hardware features they like, i.e. screen size, build quality. Both iOS and Android are great platforms.

To me, the Nexus Series of Android phones are like the iPhone equivalent of Android. The software is optimized with the hardware on the Nexus phones like the iPhone are optimized with iOS. That is why I don't believe specs should be important with Nexus phones. As long as both software and hardware work together and are optimized for better performance, it shouldn't matter.

Found this. A blogger stated they used the wrong phone to demo the face recognition. Stupid mistake cause now people think it doesn't work but it actually looks pretty cool. I love the simplicity and ease of iOS, but ICS has its definite advantages.

So many great options now :D

You do realize they didn't demo the full capabilities of the voice controls......BECAUSE IT'S BE AVAILABLE FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS. It's nothing new. I don't really want to get into a debate but since you brought up Siri, here's something Siri can't do....I can tell my Nexus S or my Sensation "navigate to Best Buy" and it will bring up gps with turn by turn directions to best buy. :) Simply put, the galaxy nexus is going to be a great phone, just like the 4s is a great phone. No need to try to downplay the phone just to serve your agenda.

And Siri can do 10 times more than what Android voice actions can and is more accurate as proven by the demo. What's your point? And remember Siri is in Beta. Android had a two year head start.

Looks interesting. At least the Nexus line continues with more rounded edges and bigger. Better feeling than our iPhone 4's. Rounded edges and bigger screens is what some iPhone owners always wanted and they never got that with the 4S. But Sammy is providing that to their fans. I just hope it doesn't feel cheap like the Nexus S.

I was checking out all the big phones at my local Wal-Mart. They were the dummy models. I can see the height being a bit of problem if it is in my pocket or when I put it in a holster and I sit down, but alot of them don't feel too big on me and my hands aren't huge. I suggest people should try out phones in the store and compare them with your iPhone. I was comparing mine with the Nexus One which is slightly taller for that 3.7 inch screen. A slight increase in height and width is not a huge difference. Only some folks with small hands or just plain weaklings would complain about a few cm differences. This isn't like Palm Pilots or the Apple Newton we are carrying here. And none of them felt like I was holding tablets. The HTC Sensation 4G felt great. HTC is my fav when it comes to Android build quality. Even the MyTouch Slide 4G with its awesome camera felt rock solid. My one hand can cover the entire screen from top to bottom. We are heading in that direction. Even a 4-inch screen iPhone won't cut it for me anymore. They are moving at a slow pace for people with little girl hands.

Sammy provided a far better screen for this phone. This is why I like to see the announcement for the next Nexus phone. UNPREDICTABLE. It is like the next James Bond movie. No continuity in the story. We get a new Bond every few years. With Nexus, the manufacturer can be different every year. I hope Motorola is the next one. But as of today, Google is banking on a hottest seller and that is Samsung.

The display is a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD (1280x720) touchscreen with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a 100,000:1 contrast ratio. Packingham said this was “the best display in the industry” and that it exceeded many televisions with its performance.

iPhone has Siri. Android has Face Unlock.
Siri is new. Face Unlock is new.

+1 Vlingo's been around awhile and works extremely well.

I don't want face unlock... I'd prefer that people not be able to use a photograph to unlock my phone.

I do think ICS looks extremely nice and I'm digging that font. Also a 720p screen on a phone is sweet, though I don't know if I could deal with a screen bigger than around 4"

I'm still waiting for my 4S, but I'm honestly dissapointed with both. I guess we're currently at the plateau Nintendo has talked about in tech. With the 4S, it NEEDS a bigger screen. Period. The end. Android has some serious integration issues.

These phones are just expected step ups.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

What they showed off was really cool.

But I would never get a android phone the OS is not customized for each phone so that leaves lots of room for bugs, crashing and freezing. I really like apples integrated software and hardware.

The thing you're forgetting is you don't have to use android's built in voice controls either if you don't want to. Vlingo has been around for quite a while, and works very well, and still can use the android database. Why is the android database important? Because your android phone learns your speech patterns and saves it to your google account. In other words, the more you use it, the more it learns the way you talk. Vlingo can use that, and by the way Vlingo has a lot of actions too. While Siri is good, it really isn't anything mind blowing. They simply took tech that's been around for a couple years and added context to it. Don't get me wrong I think it is good, but I'd hardly call it mind blowing.
