Updated to IOS 5.0.1 and "so far" it looks like my battery drain is worse.

My 4S didn't have the huge drain like others, but was not real good.
Now after the upgrade, it looks like the battery drain is worse. Sitting on my desk - un used, battery went from 30% to 26% in about 2.5 hours. Before update, it could last 4 hours before any drop at all.

You're claiming 4hours before a 1% drop?

if that is true, you are getting 400hr standby time?
that is higher than the spec rated 200hr mark.

First off, yes. It would last at 100% for a long time. But after it got off 100% it would drop faster. I really didn't pay much attention to it cause I was getting ok battery time.

All I know is After I did the update, battery level is dropping very quickly.
Is there a way to go back to IOS5.0? I have the file on my computer.....

Am I the only one that thinks a 4% drop in 2.5 hours isn't that bad at all!? I mean that seems completely normal to me.

doubt...i have a location reminder using toodledo and dropped 1% over 9 hours of sleeping with wifi off...3gs

Since when does an iPhone need its battery recalibrated after an update?
Apple created a fix for a problem that people were never able to admit existed. It's no surprise that the first reaction to a follow-up problem will be to once again blame the user.

BTW. Yesterday went to the theme park and we (two phones) resisted from doing instagram, facebook, video recording, find my friends, location services or any other of the things you'd buy a smartphone for and we still went dead by 3P/4P. Had our second day of the trip today and even with 100% battery and new update battery it still is draining about 15% per hour. We'll see tomorrow if recalibrating is a true solution or if its an excuse to invalidate legitimate problems for another day.

Well il be the first to say.... My battery is fine Il post a pic later today after work and describe what I used and have on but usually I have half a bar of battery after a day at work 8-4.30 .... As long as the battery isn't worse I'm happy hell before the 4s I had a bb 9300 3G which lasted 3-5 hours so I'm already happy with this phone :)

5.0.1 might have improved my battery life a little bit, but I'm not sure. I did the math and it looks like I'm getting 60 hours of standby time now, not the 200 hours Apple claims. I'll calibrate the battery tonight see if that makes a difference. So I'm still considering exchanging it under warranty.

Nothing normal about that to me; I usually get less than a 5% drop overnight while I'm sleeping, which is usually anywhere from 5~7 hours.
In fact, I'm pretty sure all iPhones never need calibrating.http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1490

At the bottom of the link (that you provided, btw), it says
Use iPhone Regularly
For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).

Everyone, try this!!

Turn off the battery percentage indicator and put your stop watch away!

If you genuinely have a problem with your battery it will still be very apparent and you can take it to your nearest Apple store for them to test.

Saying things like, “I used my phone for 23 minutes and it went down 9% is it normal?” …. No, it’s not normal to know this information!

Just USE your phone, get on with your life and stop reading the percentage meter because it’s seriously making you crazy.

If your phone is dead by lunch, go to the Apple Store.

From what I know it usually take the OS a couple days to settle before you actually start noticing decent battery life. Give it a couple days first.

I had to do this. The battery indicator literally drives you crazy lol.

I didnt had the battery problem, but i got the 5.0.1b2 trough my developer program and i have to say after one week....the patch is working for sure!!! I NEVER had an iPhone which lasted for 36 hours.

here here. i was one of those people that constantly watched and checked my battery life. i can honestly say that after turning off the percentage meter, i am much happier with my phone. the battery meter is color coded for a reason. when it gets to the orange charge it. these things charge crazy fast so its no worries.

it comes down to "what you don't know won't hurt you" or "ignorance is bliss" you choose which you prefer

At the bottom of the link (that you provided, btw), it says

That's not the same as calibration. That's just running the battery all the way down to 'exercise' the battery. Calibration involves leaving it for five hours or more completely drained before charging it all the way back up (for MacBook Pros with removable batteries).

Apple has never stated that the same needs to be done with iPhone, iPad, iPod touch models or newer MacBook Pros and other portable Macs that have non-removable batteries.

Have you guys actually charged your phone since the update?

My phone went from 100% to 98% after 20 minutes of constant use, launching various apps with the screen on.

Just because it is a percentage it doesn't mean the battery drain is linear.

Stop bugging the OP.

He has a problem with the battery.
The new os hasn't fixed things for a lot of people. I installed, restored from new. drained and fully charged overnight.

From 06:30 to 12:30 midday my battery has drained to 15%. 85% drain in 6 hours.
New os is worse for me. Maybe mine is hardware issue. I don't know, but I'm very annoyed at the moment.

Gave a full charge till mid night. Left it on over night (I usually turn phone off at nite) as of 8:30 I have 98%. That sounds about right. We'll see what happens during the day.
If there is an issue, I have a genius bar apt in the afternoon.

I'm probably the only one in the world that does this now, but this is why I leave my battery percentage indicator off and only keep it on my iPad. I don't want to be staring at my status bar and watch aimlessly as my battery power dwindles when I can just use my iPhone and worry about charging it when I get home. The only times I ever worry about charging it now is when I know I'm going to be gone during the night. Turning that darn percentage off is the best thing I did for peace of mind.

Are you within 30-days of purchase? You should be able to return the phone and pick up one with better battery. I did some research and the Samsung Rugby II gets about 250 hours of standby.

Except that doing this on the iPhone 4S is currently impossible because there is no jailbreak for the iPhone 4S.
