Looks like IOS 5.0.1 didn't help me.*****UPDATE****

Updated to IOS 5.0.1 and "so far" it looks like my battery drain is worse.

My 4S didn't have the huge drain like others, but was not real good.
Now after the upgrade, it looks like the battery drain is worse. Sitting on my desk - un used, battery went from 30% to 26% in about 2.5 hours. Before update, it could last 4 hours before any drop at all.

UPDATE took iPhone to genius bar. They said battery was ok, but useage and standby times we not good, so they gave me a new phone. The new one has IOS 5, I don't plan to update again until they sort out the issues.

Toi bad this thread wasn"t offshore, and out of sight.

Nothing normal about that to me; I usually get less than a 5% drop overnight while I'm sleeping, which is usually anywhere from 5~7 hours.

At the bottom of the link (that you provided, btw), it says

That's "maintaining" your battery, not re calibrating. HUGE difference.

My battery was worse after update... Found this thread just now and did the hard reset. Battery went from 26% to 28%. Interesting.

I had an iPhone 4S from launch day with a S/N starting with D, the battery was terrible. I was lucky if I got 1hr 30mins usage and a 1.5 days standby. I took the phone to the genius bar on the 1st Nov, he tested it and said the battery was fine, he showed me the results. They said at the last charge I had gotten over 5hrs usage and over 2 days standby and I had 89% left when I plugged it in, now with those figures I would have been overjoyed.

Unfortunately the test results weren't correct, the last charge I had actually only got 1hr 30mins usage and just over 1 days standby, the phone turned off at 1%. Then he noticed my phone had never made a phone call according to the test software, this was incorrect as the phone itself was showing several calls had been made. The Genius's conclusion was that something was seriously wrong with the 4S, but the battery was fine!!, he changed the phone. The new iPhone 4S serial starts with a C.

Now it's 12th Nov and the battery is what the first phone should have been, it received a full charge on the first night, and I am now averaging 6hrs usage and 2.5 days standby The new phone was restored from the backup of the old phone.

Is there a problem with serial numbers starting with D (doesn't seem to be) or was it a rogue phone, how many other people are being told by Apple there batteries are fine when clearly they aren't, either due to faulty testing software or faulty phones giving incorrect readings on the software, I would think the latter is most likely.

Both iPhones had everything turned on except Bluetooth and location services Setting Time zone,

Is the issue to do with hardware or firmware? From my perspective it's hardware.

If you have a problem with your battery take the phone to an Apple store and get them to check it, ensuring you know your last usage and standby figure, see how these compare with the Genisus's test results.

Setting Time Zone

Surely the big problem that remains is the Time Zone Setting. If I put this on it stays on and will not go away and constantly uses GPS. This is what lots of others say and I have the exact same problem. It is possible that if you are in a 3G area then it will go away but I'm not and I can't test that.

Have you turned the time zone setting off. If you have does your battery life improve. It doesn't go away in a 3G area.

Both my phones had Timezone turned off, the first had terrible battery life the other has great battery life. The new phone was restored from the old phones backup, so both had exactly the same settings.

My battery problem does seem to be related to the Time Zone setting so now I just leave it off and I'm fairly happy with my battery life. Still I feel that Apple should have sorted this out with the new update.

My battery was perfect with 5.0, almost didnt wanna update but i did anyway.
Now My battery sucks with 5.0.1.
Way to go Apple ! Hope for 5.0.2.

A hard reset wont bring back 5.0 right?

iOS 5.0.1 hasn't appeared to change much for me so far. Right out of the box I did everything to conserve battery, tweaked all sorts of settings and what not and the battery is definitely crappy. But I bought it with this in mind and continue to hope this update will prove useful or a future one will.

Same here. Just run my phone down to 1% and stuck it on charge to see if this resolves it.

For me at the moment, 5.0.1 has made the battery last much less. Previously, i had no issues with iOS 5 and thought the battery was amazing.
