You know Steve Jobs never in all his time at Apple announced a new iMac at WWDC, don't you?

----------

If you buy today, you're still paying full price for something that's over a year old. And given that Apple computers aren't exactly the cheapest to begin with....

I bought a second-hand iMac, i7 3.4Ghz, 16GB ram, 2GB GPU, 27", 256GB SSD & 1TB HDD, a month or two ago. Been super pleased thus far with its performance.

Get a refurb, buy it cheaper, or get it second-hand. I kind of knew I'd be saving myself unnecessary angst if I didn't play the waiting game.

A really good iMac now is better than no iMac at all IMO.

I think that's his point - we can't really see the future. Which is why it might be a little bit of a losing battle to continually wait out an iMac refresh. If you really require an iMac, what's wrong with this one?

Now, though, there might be a silent refresh in the coming weeks ... but, there also might not. If you need an iMac now and can afford one, get it. If you don't need an iMac now - don't get it!

Once you get your new iMac, there's going to be new stuff released ALL THE TIME likely. By the time you open your boot to get your computer out, there'll already be new stuff.

Instead of going for the absolute 'latest' maybe look at what your needs are. After closely looking at that, are you *sure* you *need* a hypothetically new version iMac? Will the current one not do? Would a PC maybe be better if you want to game?

Some thoughts.

True.

I think I've moved past my whole "wanting to game" on PC and more of a everyday computer user. I game on consoles now.

Does anyone think it can go another 6 months before an update? Do apple think that iMac is fine the way it is?

I mean if you flesh it up to max specs its a ok machine, but the price tag is very high then I think for what you get. what do you think ?

One,i won't wait more than july, with Mountain Lion Release of.
Two,won't attend never another one WWDC
Third,if they will release in more than 2 months better hope Iphone
will sell always this well..because with Windows8 are really risking to lose
the desktop market...thanks to Cook and Forstall!

This is ridiculous, one of the things I was looking forward too is the new iMac, a laptop doesn't fit my needs and I feel severely let down by Apple, maybe I'll go Windows in future, nice job Apple.

Yup, they have dropped the ball here big time.

The thing is, people on this forum might decide to wait, or to buy inferior, overpriced hardware out of some sense of Apple loyalty or fanboyism.

But the neutral, the man in the street, has no such loyalty. He will look at Windows 8 on the new Dell all-in-one with its Ivybridge processor and 6 USB3 ports and HDMI input and Bluray reader etc and compare it to the iMac. And they will see the Dell at 30% lower cost.

Bad move, Apple. If you couldn't manage an iMac redesign, how hard would it have been to develop a new Ivybridge logic board for the existing chassis? Ivybridge and USB3 would have been enough for me.

But we have nothing but old hardware now.

That graph they showed on the WWDC the one with osx vs windows users - they can kiss that good bye

Oh wonderful, just what we needed.

Another one of THESE threads!

Simple. Don't click the thread.

Don't think Apple is going to be suffering that much.

People need to chill. Yea it sucks Apple dropped the ball the Mac Pro and iMac at WWDC. But some of you are acting like it's the end of the world. Geeeez!

Of course it's not the end of the world. But it's kind of frustrating when you have money burning a hole in your pocket and want to buy a new all in one.

I cannot bring myself to buy in 2012 a device for £2,500 that has no USB3 ports and cannot be upgraded. Sorry, but that would be complete madness. So I am stuck.

So they are in effect turning their backs on people like me. For now at least.

I'm also very disappointed with the lack of news about new iMac's. The current models are 406+ days old - more than a year without an update. That's a about century in digital years. Sure, they're still okay, but it far too expensive for what you get nowadays. Apart from that, I really need usb 3.0, more SSD options (512 GB) and new gfx.

I guess Apple has good reasons not to unveil a new iMac at the WWDC. Not even a spec bump, as with the MacBook's. That must imply there's something bigger coming for the new iMacs (such as a redesign and new components, party borrowed from the new MacBook Pro Retina).

My guess is, as some of you suggest, that we'll see them soon. Probably when ML launches, next month. I can imagine that launching new iMacs (with or without Retina) would distract attention from the MacBook Pro Retina.

The only reason .is greed!
And no way to see a 680m ,its price doubles the 7970 ,
so you'll have just another 650.
Time to move away from Apple.
Sadly.

that's finally a good point that makes me hope again.
maybe they just want the whole attention for every single of their products if there's a major update. so let's wait another month and see if ML comes with a new imac...

I am using 2007 iMac, was certainly hoping a refresh adding USB 3. Thankfully my Mac is still running well.

How the hell do we know that they weren't going to update the iMac's at WWDC? Can you see the future?

What a stupid question, get with the times!! These kids now joining the apple brigade need to go do some research.

They just want to clean stocks..and this is a gamble..they're playin dirty with users..damaging them.

I considered that as well.. but I can't find anything that talks about supply constraints on the 680m...

I take this back. Nothing with the 680M appears to be shipping before June 25. This makes sense then.. probably an early-July refresh.

The MBA & MBP stock levels before yesterday are proof that they're not holding back models to dump inventory...

But...why to stop with Amd?
I know..money apart..!

That's a good question. Could be something as simple as a multi-year deal with Apple funneling money into Nvidia for, say, better treatment on video drivers. Which would be extremely welcome. Apple spends gobs of cash without ever announcing what it's for, so it's impossible to confirm or disprove this.

A little poking shows that the 7970m seems to be supply constrained as well, but it is actually shipping at least.

A bit disappointing. Guess will have to continue waiting. With regard to getting latest pc as an alternative the only sticking point for me is that dreadful Windows software.

If only pcs could have Apple OS loaded then we would be talking.

This whole problem would be mitigated if Apple was just upfront with it's desktop launch schedule like everyone else is. Then you know what to plan for.
