This whole problem would be mitigated if Apple was just upfront with it's desktop launch schedule like everyone else is. Then you know what to plan for.

Why would they do that when the brick and mortar shops are still selling the 2011 MBPs and MBAs today? Around 99% of consumers do not even realise websites like this exist nor do they know that new notebooks were announced yesterday.

On the other hand, I'd hazard that most of those consumers you point to don't really follow tech journalism, so I don't know how much business they'd lose by announcing the release schedule.

That's actually a damn good point. I didn't think of that angle at all.

While I am disappointed that a new iMac was not released, I am extremely impressed with what they have done with the MBP. I honestly do not mind waiting a bit longer if this is the kind of upgrade that we can expect from Apple with the iMac. The new MBP is simply amazing, it simply does not fit my needs at the moment.

That said, I will be disappointed/jealous if the new iMac is a simple Ivy Bridge update.

Has anyone complaining ever thought maybe Apple just didn't have the resources to design a new iMac in time for WWDC? In the past, they have taken their best design & engineering people and put them on top priorities. Maybe the new MacBook Pro was the bigger priority? They can't please all. If the iMac had a redesign and the MBP did not then I guarantee you would have the exact same discussion threads going on over in the MBP section.

This makes sense. The MBPs have been under heavy competition from other notebook makers(asus) for a while now. The i-macs are still sort of a best in breed for all-in ones. Dell just released their competition this year.

To add one more thing about Apple...yes it takes a while for releases and yes their secrecy is the gift and the curse. One thing we can probably all agree on is they get it right more often than other tech companies. Look how long Google and Facebook take to roll out new products/features. When they come out they only leave you thinking "Really, that's it?"

I agree - the secrecy is a gift and a curse. Certainly a curse for me right now, and all those waiting.

Apple - iMac - "New" language - REMOVE

I too am a little bitter that Apple chose not to update the iMac line yesterday, but I, as many apple fans, will now sit by frustrated and wait for the new iMacs.

The above opinion voiced I now must turn my attention to the following -

APPLE - OUT OF RESPECT FOR THE "LESS INFORMED" BUYER - YOU NEED TO REMOVE ANY AND ALL LANGUAGE THAT SAYS "NEW" FROM YOUR WEBSITE ON THE IMAC PAGES. There are many places that state "All New AMD, the New iMac is powered by the next gen....etc..

It is flat out wrong to mislead "less informed" buyers - having them think the couple of grand they are shelling out (in this economy) is on something *current*....new.

Oh boy another one of *these* threads! LOL

Is anything they are saying is 'new' something that was offered on a previous model?

I went to the Apple Store and the label "NEW" is only over the Macbook Air and Macbook Pro.

.

In fairness, these threads continue b/c Apple continues to spin "new" (or fail to update store pages) on products that in fairness, ain't new.

While the "new" tag has been removed since yesterday, I agree with the OP's mentality. It's a gray area when it comes to the ethics of using such terminology, and Apple should avoid it.

Continue to be very frustrated...

I myself plan to buy two new Apple desktops and know others who would like to. However, to buy machines that are 13 months out of date is very frustrating. Some of the new software is more demanding and requires a faster processor than my 3 year old MacBook Pro. Adobe Lightroom 4 is an excellent improvement but it requires a faster computer. I do not want to buy a current computer and, then, have it updated. We also do not need the best ever new iMac just a significant processor improvement. Maybe I use Apple for all the fun things and get a desktop from elsewhere...

Ivybridge processor and chipset (which would have provided the VERY much needed USB3) could have been done on a rainy Wednesday afternoon.

As noted in other threads, it seems likely this WAS done on a rainy Wednesday afternoon, and they just don't have the components in stock (GPUs in particular) to build them just yet. Soon.

This is why people should of bought when they needed it, as months go by they would of been into a New iMac so upgrade days would be eating away.

Now people that are waiting will still wait, should be out in a few weeks, but with NO retina, glad i bought in feb and I'm awaiting a NEW mac pro, if new 15' MBP next gen cost what it does with retina i can't see how iMac will get retina unless an expensive version iMac or BTO

PS DONT THINK ITS FUNNY THERE ARE NO IMACS!! AS PEOPLE HAVE WAITED!! HOPE THY LEARN FROM THIS!! CGASING LATEST IS NOT ALWAYS BEST OPTION

Yep. I am enjoying the one I purchased in December. I thought a new iMac would come in April, but needed to get rolling. This more then makes up for the time I purchased my G5 iMac November '05 only to have the Intel version come out 1-2 months later.

That's fine for gadgets and portables, but from imac to mac pro, I think it is a bit different. Apple is clearly trying to downplay the desktop market. Maybe they want to eventually phase it out. Maybe they don't make enough money on it anymore. Obviously their priorities are elsewhere, but that leaves a lot of us desktop troopers hanging. They will probably eventually come out with at least one more wiz bang imac and maybe the infamous 2013 mac pro, but the days are numbered.
