Yes, the infraction would appear to be too strong given the offense.
To be honest, it is not for you to say seeing as you have had zero involvement in this issue.

Don't bother bringing up complaints in private either to mods or admins. They won't necessarily address the issue, but may rather search through your post history and use something you said in the past against you. I've seen this happen whenever complaints are "done in private". There is simply no public accountability when mods or admins go on their power trips.![]()

So tell us, what was your old user name that you were banned under?
I had an infraction for a sig violation almost two years ago, and even though it's "expired" it still shows up in my control panel. Does that ever go away?
Also on a sidenote, I just joined what, 3 months ago? I have found everyone to be more
than friendly. As long as you keep a level head and are polite, everything is smooth.
Of course, like all forums, you will get the occasional flame war or disgruntled post that
may irritate you. It's just something you have to shrug off and not be sensitive about.
It's an online forum for god sakes. : ) Btw, thanks everyone for being a great online
community. I enjoy posting and reading here everyday.
How much are they paying you to say this? ¬.¬
Almost anytime we send message to members, reminding them of a rule, answering a Contact form, explaining how moderation works, or handling issues with their account, it's "on their permanent record." That just means that we keep track of what we do, which is necessary for good service, fairness, moderator teamwork, and continuity.
We don't have time to send individual Private Messages every time we moderate a post. We started using the vBulletin "infraction" system in response to requests that we try to send members messages about their problems requiring moderation. If a user makes posts with insults they'll probably a earn a time-out. If they make a one-word post saying "lol" it will probably be deleted without comment. In between are the minor rules. When we can, we like to send reminders to those who break them.
Infractions are like PMs but are mostly automated and don't require separate recordkeeping. Although vBulletin allows them to be used to assign "points" that can lead to disciplinary actions, we don't use them that way. To us they are merely a practical way to send reminders when the other choice is to leave members wondering why their posts were removed. Infractions produce no loss of forum privileges and they are private, seen only by you and the moderators and administators. It might be nice if vBulletin let you suppress the display of infraction messages after you've seen them (like deleting a PM after you've read it), but it doesn't currently have that feature.
Taking the extra step to send reminders is a courtesy, not a power trip. Those who don't like the word "infraction" should read it as "reminder" and consider it in the proper context.
Power hungry?
Really?
I think the mods on this site are some of the most easy going around.

I really think have lost all faith in Macrumors. I totally respect the website and the community you have created Arn, but this just leaves a bad taste, when something like this happens. Do you have a tool to delete duplicate posts so this doesn't happen in the future? Really sending people an infraction for double posting by accident? Say it to you self and it sounds more like a power trip. A simple message would have sufficed or perhaps common sense would have thought that it was an accidental double post. Ever hit submit twice when the connection hangs?
I think it is rather funny that the admin who did this hasn't responded, which speaks volumes, I think.
What happened to the Apple community? I don't want to sound harsh but this place seems like Wikipedia with admins who are on power trips.
You made three duplicate posts with 3 different titles, so it wasn't quite a matter of accidentally hitting submit three times. It was hitting submit, changing the title, hitting submit, changing the title and hitting submit again -- or some variation thereof. Seems reasonable that it could have not looked like an accident to the mod.

Accident. "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."Really sending people an infraction for double posting by accident?
There are only two "admins" besides arn: Doctor Q & Wild Cowboy, the rest are moderators. They may have not responded, because they may have not seen this thread, etc... If you wanted a response, I'm sure a PM to them directly would have solved the issue.I think it is rather funny that the admin who did this hasn't responded, which speaks volumes, I think.

Neither did you so how can you say. Maybe we should invite the "mod" who did this for her opinion ...
