Don't bother bringing up complaints in private either to mods or admins. They won't necessarily address the issue, but may rather search through your post history and use something you said in the past against you. I've seen this happen whenever complaints are "done in private". There is simply no public accountability when mods or admins go on their power trips. :)

Sounds to me you have a bug up your ass about the mods. (I have issues with their behavior at times) Why would you say not to bother discussing issues with mods privately and they use your old posts against you unless this happened to you? Under this user name, you've only been a member for less than a month. So tell us, what was your old user name that you were banned under?

To be honest, it is not for you to say seeing as you have had zero involvement in this issue.

If I could hug you over the internet, I would.

But wait, when did we stop handing out mod privelages after 16 posts? Cherry certainly likes to think she is in a seat of authority.

So tell us, what was your old user name that you were banned under?

I'd like to know the answer to this as well.

I had an infraction for a sig violation almost two years ago, and even though it's "expired" it still shows up in my control panel. Does that ever go away?

Almost anytime we send message to members, reminding them of a rule, answering a Contact form, explaining how moderation works, or handling issues with their account, it's "on their permanent record." That just means that we keep track of what we do, which is necessary for good service, fairness, moderator teamwork, and continuity.

We don't have time to send individual Private Messages every time we moderate a post. We started using the vBulletin "infraction" system in response to requests that we try to send members messages about their problems requiring moderation. If a user makes posts with insults they'll probably a earn a time-out. If they make a one-word post saying "lol" it will probably be deleted without comment. In between are the minor rules. When we can, we like to send reminders to those who break them.

Infractions are like PMs but are mostly automated and don't require separate recordkeeping. Although vBulletin allows them to be used to assign "points" that can lead to disciplinary actions, we don't use them that way. To us they are merely a practical way to send reminders when the other choice is to leave members wondering why their posts were removed. Infractions produce no loss of forum privileges and they are private, seen only by you and the moderators and administators. It might be nice if vBulletin let you suppress the display of infraction messages after you've seen them (like deleting a PM after you've read it), but it doesn't currently have that feature.

Taking the extra step to send reminders is a courtesy, not a power trip. Those who don't like the word "infraction" should read it as "reminder" and consider it in the proper context.

Personally I just think that MacPanda needs a hug.

Also on a sidenote, I just joined what, 3 months ago? I have found everyone to be more
than friendly. As long as you keep a level head and are polite, everything is smooth.
Of course, like all forums, you will get the occasional flame war or disgruntled post that
may irritate you. It's just something you have to shrug off and not be sensitive about.
It's an online forum for god sakes. : ) Btw, thanks everyone for being a great online
community. I enjoy posting and reading here everyday.

Also, I find it funny when I do something stupid (I can take a joke). I just freaking was trying to play an album in itunes and couldn't for the life of me figure out why only one song would play.

I got a good laugh when I learned that all my songs were unchecked.
bahaahaa

Thats a freebie for you guys. : )

How much are they paying you to say this? ¬.¬

I get paid $.012 a post. Child labor ftw.

There have been a couple of occasions in which I had differing opinions of the timeliness of the moderating, but in the end - the moderators have always done the right thing and serve the community. If there is one thing that does not occur on this forum it's "power trips."

Thanks for the clarification. It doesn't really bother me that it's there, I just always wondered why it still was.

We are responsible for our own actions. I got sent to "time-out" just a week ago. I knew why and accept responsibility for it.

I think the problem dealing with it is more of a question of pride/ego than anything else.

The current administration is what it is. If a person doesn't like it they can contact a mod privately or simply leave. That's the way I see it.

Now. Do I get another time-out for voicing my opinion ?:p

To be honest, it is not for you to say seeing as you have had zero involvement in this issue.

I think their earlier post was a bit of an overreaction, but I would think a comment on arn's rendition of the facts provides enough understanding to post thoughts.

As for the moderation here? It waxes and wanes. Some mods are better than others. Some take things personally or weigh the community sentiment more, some are very dispassionate in interpretation. It just varies.

I really think have lost all faith in Macrumors. I totally respect the website and the community you have created Arn, but this just leaves a bad taste, when something like this happens. Do you have a tool to delete duplicate posts so this doesn't happen in the future? Really sending people an infraction for double posting by accident? Say it to you self and it sounds more like a power trip. A simple message would have sufficed or perhaps common sense would have thought that it was an accidental double post. Ever hit submit twice when the connection hangs?

I think it is rather funny that the admin who did this hasn't responded, which speaks volumes, I think.

What happened to the Apple community? I don't want to sound harsh but this place seems like Wikipedia with admins who are on power trips.

Did you read what arn wrote:

You made three duplicate posts with 3 different titles, so it wasn't quite a matter of accidentally hitting submit three times. It was hitting submit, changing the title, hitting submit, changing the title and hitting submit again -- or some variation thereof. Seems reasonable that it could have not looked like an accident to the mod.

Accident. "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

Why would someone intentionally create 3 of the same topics. If someone had read them they wouldn't have looked like spam.

peace - macpanda.

some kids i know got my school ip banned from editing Wikipedia HAHAHAHAHA maybe i was also involved :p

on topic, i have had good experiences with the mods here, very good experiences but i understand your frustration, macpanda

There are only two "admins" besides arn: Doctor Q & Wild Cowboy, the rest are moderators. They may have not responded, because they may have not seen this thread, etc... If you wanted a response, I'm sure a PM to them directly would have solved the issue.

Even if it was an accident, which given arn's explanation of what occurred, it seems as if it was a tad bit more - I'm lost by your reaction of a "bad taste." Read the rules, they are there for a reason, it clearly states what is and isn't allowed and the consequences for doing them. Put yourself in the moderators shoes and think about what you would have done for someone violating the rules on numerous occasions and various places. The infraction tool is there for a reason.

To be honest, it is not for you to say seeing as you have had zero involvement in this issue.

Neither did you so how can you say. Maybe we should invite the "mod" who did this for her opinion ...

I don't think arn agreed that it was a power trip, he more or less said the message that was sent to might, might have been too strong. And either way arn said that you posted the same thing three times with three different titles I don't see that happening by pushing the submit button twice! :)

Okay folks, I have had some of the best times on this site, the early 2000s were the best, but this just isn't fun anymore. Arn can you please delete my account and remove the content I have posted.. If I was a spammer I think would have done more than 3 posts remember this happened many months ago. You can keep the infractions and power trips but I don't want be here anymore.

See ya folks. Hopefully one day, this place will get back to how it used to be,

peace - macpanda
