I believe that he touched everyone who came to the Island. I believe that at some point, every number/name on the cave/lighthouse was a candidate, and they have slowly been whittled down throughout the years. Now there are 6 left.

Ok, ok, bear with me here- so why, then, were the 'six' all nice and packaged up in the string of numbers well before the rest of the candidates, who came with them at the same time, were brought to the island?

correct me if im wrong but I dont think they ever stated that the numbers are the ONLY candidates... it is possible kate was at one point one of the candidates.. especially since he went to her as a child... or maybe he knew she is necessary because it will take kate to persuade jack or sawyer to make the jump to fill the candidate role....

The more I'm reading the more I'm finding out that we don't really know who the 6 candidates are. Maybe kate is one of them; maybe she isn't. I don't think there is a definitive answer.

I have been wondering about the identities of the 6 remaining candidates as well, which got me to thinking about what Ilana said in the last episode. Ilana says there are 6 left, but also says that she is unsure if 'Kwon' refers to Jin, Sun, or both.

If Sun and Jin can both be candidates, does that mean that at least one of the candidate's name is unknown even to her? She wouldn't say that it could be both of them if she had 5 other names, she would know that it had to be one or the other (6 candidates, 5+1=6, 5+2=7). That means one of the names is still totally unknown.

I thought briefly that all the names could be unknown to her, but then she wouldn't know 'Kwon' in the first place.

So I believe at least one name is totally unknown to both the characters and the viewers.

Great question, one I wish I had the answer to.

I think this is when Daniel Faraday shows up and has a lecture on why time is not as linear as we perceive it to be. There's definitely a paradox here ... The numbers apparently represent a specific six who have been living a life of free will that predestines them to appear on the island at this particular moment in time.

We're probably in for an ending that only really makes sense if you're wickedly high.

on a side note, who else thinks that the couple "adam and eve" whos bodies were found in the caves in season 1 are the bodies of Rose and Bernard? The last we saw them they were happily living alone on the island in the 70's... it seems possible to me that the island let them live out their lives and not travel back to the present during the incident... then perhaps they knew they were dying for whatever reason and peacefully passed away with each other in the caves...

Dude....you are a prophet. I have always thought that Rose and Bernard will be a *major* theme in the grand finale. Nice!

As far as the six candidates go.....

I think it's safe to say that Locke and Sayid are no longer candidates because they have been claimed, so to speak. They are now part of the dark side, if you will.

Sawyer has a rather strong personality so he would be a natural leader in contention for assuming the role of island protector. I'm pretty sure that's why smokie/Locke wants to get him off the island.

I see Jack, kate, Hurley and Ben as definite candidates. That leaves two more. I'm thinking maybe Jin and Sun's baby is one? ....and the sixth? Hell if I know! LOL

That said, I think that Ben will eventually get the golden crown. God knows he deserves it!

...a little off topic but I'm a grown man and I actually shed a tear when Ben said, "Because he's the only one that will have me." Am I alone in this? LOL

No, I actually felt bad for Ben in that scene. I thought it was one of Michael Emerson's best performances to date.

Kate was 51 on the wheel in the lighthouse, not crossed out.
She may still be a candidate.
Jacobs secret backup candidate?

I was amused to see the name Friendly on there and crossed out.
Can't remember if Littleton was crossed out.

Um... everybody?

Yeah, the producers confirmed that Kate's name was in the cave but just wasn't given a close-up.

Sawyers an effen COP?!
It seems like by now they should be wrapping things up, not introducing all kinds of new random.

Richard might be my most favorite character on Lost, because his story is so shadowed and appears vast. I jumped for joy when I saw that next week would be all about his story. I had feared they would never dedicate a show to him.

Why does Sawyer seem to think that driving the submarine is any easier than flying that plane?
Maybe he learned during the 3 years he was trapped in the 70's. Also didn't he hijack a sub before with Kate and someone else?

I wonder what's going to happen when Ben meets Widmore. That's where his group was heading right?

Because when they're running out of gas, you don't have to jump 50 feet to save the other people on board? ::)

So what about Smoky and his "crazy mother"? That's got to be a big, fat, juicy clue on who/what he is, right?

So Sawyer is a cop - like all along? I'm confused. And Miles, his partner ... why did Sawyer not act surprised when Miles came to the Island?

The flash-sideways just show what would have happened if the plane never crashed. Correct?

x2. Richard is one of my favorite characters. Maybe they'll explain the eyeliner?

People, men and women, used to put on eyeliners or rather kohl a long time back in history to protect their eyes from dust and sand. Wiki Kohl.

If you assume that he's telling the truth, I don't. I think he's manipulating people.

No they are different realities with different histories. Jack doesn't have a kid in the original reality but does in the alternative universe.

Sawyer was never a cop. When he was in the Dharma Initiative, he was head of security if that's what you're referring to. But in his real life, before the island, he was a con-man, not a cop.

The flash-sideways just show what would have happened if the plane never crashed. Correct?

correct.
