So does anyone else think that Desmond might be the new Jacob? It seems as though he's going around fixing everyone's lives off the island. He knows everything off the island. I mean Jacob was able to get off the island and influence/meet everyone. It seems that's what Desmond is doing now.

1 major problem with my theory I can see - it was Charlie that opened his eyes to the island life and jogged his memory of an alternate universe/life/time line.

Well...

In the original timeline, Locke tried to gather everyone together to go back to the island. He was unsuccessful at it and Ben more or less took over.

In the new timeline, it looks like Desmond is successful at opening their eyes (so to speak) to the alternate timeline. I guess we'll see if he's succeeds in bringing them all together.

Since the island is gone in the second timeline, I don't know what opening their eyes does for the situation, unless its all a dream, sort of like a christmas carol (3 ghosts come to visit and show him alternate lives).

MIB seems to be a liar, mostly it is Sayid who sees MIB for who he really is. Sawyer is most like him in terms of personality. The question is, are both Jacob and MIB up for replacement?

I've been getting the feeling that MIB kills Jin and Sun takes her revenge by becoming the guardian of the island (and overseer of MIB).

We still don't know what Whidmore's role is on the island. It's pretty clear there are 3 different camps now.

I agree that between Locke and Widmore, Locke is the better choice. Widmore has proven time and time again that he shouldn't be trusted, most recently in this weeks episode.

Oooh, I'll pick Widmore over Locke. Sure, Widmore's motives still aren't clear, but I'm guessing he'll be revealed more as a zealot follower of Jacob as opposed to an enemy of the Losties. Remember, Widmore was Ben's enemy, and when has Ben shown he should be trusted?

Ben showed he could be trusted when he didn't go with MiB and everyone forgave him, and he seemed to turn a corner. Remember, it was the episode where he choose helping that student over gaining more power in the Sideways Timeline and that drew the parallel with what happened in the original timeline. (making the right choice).

And even if he couldn't be trusted, I don't think the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Widmore seems to be evil (reneging on promises in last ep) and doesn't care much about the Losties just his own, selfish interests.

There are so many damn possibilities. I wonder if they're making alternate endings just to try and appease everyone and everyone's theories. You know a Widmore ending, a Jack ending, a Sun ending, a Sawyer ending etc.
Maybe those are what's on the special box set disk?

If they end the series that way (a la "Clue"), there should be at least a Scooby Doo ending too. ;)

I think I'm through with asking questions about lost. I'm just going to sit back, enjoy the ride and see if I can spot all the tie-ins, themes, and numbers they put into the show.

The only thing I'm worried about is that with so few episodes left they're going to pull a "Sopranos" ending on us.

I think there's a reason ( other than ratings ) ABC decided on "Ab Aeterno" for the re-run. There's some important info in there we need to know about.

I think it has something to do with Whitfield and five officers as survivors before smokie gets them.

Speaking of this, on and off a number of seasons ago, there was this running conversation about people who could "never" return to the island, with Benjamin eventually ending up on the list. IIRC, it is made clear that Widmore is on the list too, but clearly, he's back (unless being on Hydra Island is some kind of technicality), and the topic doesn't seem to have re-surfaced.

Widmore is Magnus Hanso. imho.

That's why he hasn't gone to the main island. His body is buried there and can't get there ( in the current timeline ) unless he's in smokie form.

That's my position too, since a while back actually, although sometimes I may get intrigued enough to start theorizing. The thing is it feels like an effort and I'm one neuron synapse away from being exhausted honestly.

Plus, from what I've read about Cuse and the finale I do get the impression that the immediate reaction to the finale will not be so positive.

There's no possible way that the finale will please the fans. There is too much hype, at no fault of the producers. A show this popular and mysterious just can't satisfy everyone. If they do it right, though, people will eventually appreciate the finale, much like many have done with the Sopranos finale.

I don't think they could get away with that after the Sopranos did it. Besides, if they did, bones would break!

What else will happen after the series ends?

Other than re-package the shows we've already seen as DVDs or downloads, with a few interviews thrown in as shovelware, how might the owners of Lost's media rights try to shake a few more dollars from the residual interest in Lost before it fades for good?

Will they make a Lost movie? A Nikki and Paulo spin-off TV series? Lego versions of Lost characters? Paperback/e-books continuing the story? An animated cartoon series? Lost conferences where the cast members sign autographs for the next 10 years? A Lost vs. Predator videogame? Real cruises to mysterious islands for Lost fans? Driveshaft on tour?

Would we watch the whole series again if they replayed it with the scenes recut into chronological order?

Interesting! It certainly wouldn't be as effective as a re-run show, but I think it would still get a fair number of viewers.

Trips to the islands was the first thing in my mind. A week long stay on the original beach camp :p

For added realism they could fly you there and perform a crash landing!

They actually already do this. If you're on the Big Island (I believe), they can take you around to the beach camp, the hatch, New Otherton, etc. It's one of their biggest tourist traps, and something that is definitely on my bucket list.
