Sayid told Jack " Because he's the one".

Perhaps Jack will be replacing MIB and Desmond will be the new Jacob.

It's odd that Jack keeps saying " I belong here". It sounds like something the MIB would have said when he was first on the island hundreds of years ago. Then decides that he wants off. So we might see Jack and Desmond sitting on the beach in the end.

^^^^ I respectfully disagree.

No way that Jack will become the new MiB. He's a good person.... he's always trying to help others. That's not the MiB's M.O.

If anything, Jack "I belong here" Shephard could be the new Jacob, and James "Get me the F off the island" Ford (Sawyer) is the new MiB.

But maybe there won't be a new Jacob or MiB, and it'll be the same two guys playing their games after all of this is over......

I just realized a motive behind Sayid taking the bomb and blowing up himself.

I think he realized that FLocke's promise to him to be with his wife would cause him to die ( again ?? ) since she is dead. So Sayid took the bomb not just to help out the losties but to be with his wife. Thus FLocke kept his promise to him.

Or he realized he was already dead and it didn't matter.

So wouldn't Jack actually be the new Jacob and Desmond the new MiB? Desmond wants to get off the island also. I think they should be reversed.

The only reason I think Jack could be the new MIB. The ONLY reason is because Claire told him "once you talk to him you are with him" and Jack did have a talk with him and Flocke told him "You're with me now".

Of course smokie could be lying to him.

You have to admit Peace...your LOST theories get often get shot down.:p

BUT...no one truly knows I suppose. Yet, I find is difficult to discern a reasonable ending that would have Jack as a 'bad guy' or even being against anyone. Even Jack vs. Sawyer (Sawyer being MIB) is a stretch as Jack is always trying to find common ground between people.

I wonder if a 'replacement' of both 'good guy' and 'evil guy' is even in the cards. I do think one or all of our castways will remain on the island, but in what fashion I am unsure.

BTW...kudos to someone who named Rousseau as a potential Jack ex-wife! I had not even considered her. THAT would be a nice twist since I think most people are assuming it's going to be Juliet.

Of course Flocke also spoke with Desmond as they made their way to the well, so wouldn't he be "infected" too?

To me, this was clearly just Claire saying that MIB was very 'convincing', even other-worldly so. Similar to what he did to her... once he started talking, she was convinced to join him. If she had said "once you talk with him, you are destined to become him", I could see what you're saying... but then again, he talks to lots of people. Sawyer, Claire, Sayid, Hugo, and more... unless you think we're going to have a LOT of MIB's on our hands! ;)

It seems clear to me that Sawyer will become the new MIB, especially with Jack saving him last night... something I could see Jacob doing for MIB but not the other way around. I'm still curious about Hugo though, and think he could possibly be the new Jacob since he and Sawyer have such a long history and Hurley putting up with Sawyer's attitude... but I find that less likely at this stage. It would seem more likely that Freckles was in love with both the new Jacob and the new MIB, etc.

As for Desmond... I don't know why, but I really don't care about Desmond at this point. He hasn't played a large enough role... I haven't felt my heartstrings get tugged on because of his character ever. HE reminds me more of a new Richard or something. Sort of the guy who knows something that no one else knows, but a weirdo that you aren't really that emotionally tied to at the same time. ;)

That being said... things are often opposite of what we think on LOST! All I'm going to say is that the end is quickly approaching and with each new episode I feel more and more like we are going to be let down. Unless the last 2 hour long episode will just be the creators of the show going through each and every episode with answers, there are simply too many questions that will be left unanswered, too many interesting story lines left abandoned...

That's interesting because Desmond (for me) is one of the most interesting and vital pieces to the show. He's also my favorite character. I think the heart strings thing is the poor guy just wants to have a normal life with the woman he loves, but he keeps getting smacked around by fate.

Don't forget that we've already seen Alex Rousseau (Danielle's daughter) in the alternate timeline---she was Ben's student. I guess it's possible that Danielle is present on the alternate timeline but isn't Alex's mother, or something like that, but my hunch is that she's not Jack's ex-wife.

Yes I realize my theories get shot down by other theories. But they are just that. Theories.

I still think everybody is dead.

Wow, great episode!

Hope no ones said this already (would take ages to read back through the most recent posts), but apparently they're making the final episode 30 minutes longer still! So 30 minutes more than the original extra time. The producers say they need it to be able to fit in all the answers (or to pop up more questions that will never be answered :p)

"See you in another life, Brother."

Maybe Sayid will become a ghost just like Michael. Michael saved everybody by allowing more time to get off the frieghter. Sayid just saved some characters in the sub. He's gonna be somewhere.

Just wondering, where's Rousseu through all this?
What year was she stranded there?
And what time are the Losties in now?

she arrived with the other stranded French folk whose ship sank, back when Jin and Sawyer etc got stuck back in time (whatever year that was - 60 something?). Anyway...she's dead isn't she?
And what time are the Losties in now?
Normal time. Present day. (I think...this time travel is so confusing!!)

EDIT:

Something I haven't understood.... if MIB wanted the losties dead so he could leave (and couldn't kill them himself), then surely he could have just lead them on some really ill-planned attack of Widmore's men that would have got them killed?

Anyway, my eyes were tearing during Sun and Jin's final scene.
It was just as emotional as the previous time we saw that scene, but not as cold this time.

Funny you mention that. After Jack had offered Jin the breather and he was heading out of the sub with Sawyer, it reminded me of Leo in the Titanic. Treading through chest deep water with lights in and out and electricity flashes, I could have sworn it was the same special effects team.

This reminded me of something funny I saw the other day. I was watching some old sitcom (for the life of me, I can't remember what it was), but one of the characters takes a tangent and says "It's like that show LOST, but I really think they are all in Hell".

I was going to post this the other night when I saw it, because the episode had to be about 3 years old. Talk about foreshadowing this season with Richard!

Grrrr, I wish I could remember what show I was watching...

What if Kate really has a lot to do with what's going on the island? I mean she's under the radar. It seems that no one cares about her because she's not on the list/crossed off the list in the cave.
So many assumptions to make about the major characters and the characters who play "veteran roles" now with the war.

Rousseau and daughter were both killed by Widmore's mercenaries when they came to collect Ben.

Rousseau was stranded there circa 1988.

Current Lost time on-island is 2007...off-island timeline is Fall 2004.

Anyone think anything about Jin and Sun actually being seperated in that 'final' scene? Could Jin come back in some way? And we didn't actually see Lupidus die now, did we? Sure he was whacked by that door, but there is not conclusive evidence that he is indeed dead. Just throwing that out in case the producers decide to bring him back into the mix. ;)
