What kind of sense do you need it to make? :p This is my second time through, granted, I'm still on Season 1. The characters, their back stories are what make this show along with the mystery of the island. Admittedly, over the life of the show, it takes on a surreal aspect.

I agree, not the best or even a good ending based on expectations, but I won't judge the entire show by the finale.

And this for the final episode:

(link)

It wasn't just the final that was a disappointment. The whole series was a sham. They just kept adding layers of confusion to a riddle without an answer. That's not good storytelling. It's just BS. They created mystery after mystery and none of it ever connected. A good mystery has an answer. It's resolved. If only one or two things were unresolved or left as a mystery, OK. But the whole series was a big FU to logic. I'm mad I spent as much time as I did on that series.

JJ Abrams can suck it. I hope the Force kicks his ass.

You do sound bitter. Cheer up! :D

I must confess I watched every episode of every season while it was on. Since then I have watched them over and over. One time I even went on a week-end bender and watched every episode from beginning to end.

I did catch a couple of things I didn't realize while it was on the air.

For example. Season two gives hints that Locke is smokey and the losties are all dead. Something I realized during the last season.

Still one of if not the best TV show ever.

I'm a little foggy on it... after the nuke goes off is new reality #1 and then sometime later it shifts again to new reality #2, as I recall somewhere in there they started with the flash forwards. I do admit at times it was hard for me to keep a handle on it, so a second viewing seemed like a good idea which can be done on Netflix. :) I have to insist maybe because of the newness and originality of it, The 1st season was the best, probably the best TV I've ever watched.

I myself recently finished Lost as well. I thought the ending was pretty good from a character stand point, but lacked in some answers. All of the hugging it out at the end really got me right in the heart. :D I still have some research I need to do to get some verification on a few things, but it really was a fantastic show. Loved every minute of it.

I have seen Lost (3) times now, start to finish.

For me, it is/was the best TV series ever made. My son and I watched it every Weds. eve like clockwork as he grew up.

I know after the nuke goes off, somehow some members of the survivor group join the Darma initiative to a point in the past. When does it shift again? When as I recall strange things happen from a timeline standpoint. Was that when the flash forwards started?

I agree. That series is time I will never, ever get back.

And let me add that The X Files runs it a close second in the "doesn't make sense" category. I still love the early seasons of the show, but as it wore on it was clear that there was little or no thought given to whether the stuff we were seeing this season was related to the stuff we saw last season. It was soon obvious that they were throwing ideas at the wall with little regard for continuity.

I remember in the final episode Mulder, on trial for his life, gave a long, circuitous explanation that attempted to tie all the disparate alien story lines together, but you could almost audibly hear the fan base collectively calling "b.s.". It was a disappointing ending to a once great show.

Incidentally, I'm getting really sick of this trend towards mini-seasons and even micro-mini-seasons. I read an article recently in which the Mad Men producers defended their decision to create a mere handful of episodes almost a year apart "a chance for viewers to savor the meaning of what they've seen." I call b.s. on that one as well.

So basically, you hated the series? The rage you feel is absolutely the reason why the series ended.

:) I've watched so much solid TV since then I have a hard time believing anybody would knowingly watch Lost TWICE. I know we watch a lot of the same shows from the mutual threads we post in. What the hell are you thinking going back??? If you really need something to do... :D :p :D

Agree. If you establish an 18 ep or 22 ep or whatever length season, stick with it! Don't jerk around the fan base. I don't watch Mad Men but I listened to an NPR interview wih the creator and though he didn't come out and say it, he didn't seem thrilled with the way AMC decided to split the final season.

Yes! Hated it as soon as I realized I was being led down a path wih no destination.

Sometimes it's the journey, not the destination. :D

I always liked the X-Files Episode Jose Chung's It Came From Outer Space. I thought it was cool the writers could make fun of themselves so fully while being so bend pan funny!

i think Lost was a great show, i loved it and remains the show i watched with the most passion in my life.
but the finale was really really bad, because basically invalidated the entire series.
I own all seasons on dvds, and i would have happily re-watched them (i was in act actually savoring the idea of re-watching them in hindsight), if the finale would have been different.
it didn't have to be great, or even good (almost impossible to live up to expectations), but it had to be consistent to the rest of the show, and with the idea that there was a reason things happened.

Can you or anyone tell me, was it explained, what this experience on the island represented? I understand the idea of being challenged, and I understand the symbology of good vs evil or polar opposites. There is a good chance that if consciousness continues after biological death (an unknown chance), we may better understand our experience on Earth, but still not understand or be given all of the of the answers about our existence which could be a series of compartmented experiences.

So my impression is/was, that the island was a mechanism to simply test the survivors and provide a learning laboratory of sorts to reflect on their mistakes and deal with their humanity? But this interesting article describes Lost's sideways reality and the island as a place this group of survivors go, before they can move on to where spirits go. This is despite denials by the shows producers that the people on the island were dead. As I recently said, I believe the journey is more rewarding than the destination. :)

This side-ways reality was just the place in which one goes after death, before they are able to move on. This place could last 10, 100, or even 1,000,000 years. But for the viewer, that might be hard to understand because in that place, there is no time – no “here and now” as Jack’s dad says. Being so used to a schedule and time as we are, it’s hard to fathom that time does not exist, and that what we were seeing of as ‘time’ in this “flash-sideways alt-reality” was not as we know time.

For example, the line “some died before you, some long after” tells us that even though most of our main characters have met back up with each other around the same time in this flash-sideways, some have been in this place long before others. The dialogue between Hurley and Ben outside the church prove this, when Hurley says to Ben, “You were a great number 2″, in which Ben replies, “And you were a great number 1.” Meaning, Hurley and Ben went on to protect the island, maybe even for a thousand years, before someone replaced Hurley and Ben just as they replaced Jacob and Richard.

Good link. Thanks for posting.
Essentially, that is what I got out of it as well. I may be in the minority in thinking the final episode satiifed me.

Your welcome. Just started Season 2. They are in the hatch and Desmond... and that stupid button, lol. I did not really get that, even after I read Pushing the Button. This will be my chance to see this again and see if it makes more sense. It's interesting that the lack of pushing this button caused the Flight to crash. But I also remember something about a "world calamity" happening if that button was not pushed. Well the button was not pushed, it blew up Swan station but no world calamity? And for any Lost affectionatos what about after that? Would'nt this still be an issue?

It was causing a world calamity with everything metal being dragged in, but Desmond destroys it with the key, thus stopping the destruction of the world. At least that's how I understood it.

I'll look for that this time around. I wonder if Desmond know about the key all along, or was it something he stumbled into? The early indication was that he did not know that much about it other than to push that button, "brother". ;)

From what I remember I think the guy that told Desmond to push the button told him to turn the key if anything went wrong, but he had no idea what would happen.

One thing that really made me feel good about Jack is that he stated in no uncertain terms that pushing the button was BS, because this is how I would have reacted. Let the world blow up, I don't really believe it. :D

Rewatched this on Bluray last year. Still gripping when all the details were scattered around as they were.
It seems all wrapped up but if they were to spoil us with one more season or a film I'd be happy! There's a plethora of characters and stories to pick from.
