I say that they should boost it to 3.7" and keep the 960x640 res, as it would be bigger but the ppi would still be over 300. 3.7" IMHO is the best screen size in terms of not being too small or too big. :)

I have an android phone and I wish I bought an iPhone instead.. 3.5" screen is perfect, not to small or not to large, it'll fit in my pocket perfectly! 4" is to big, might aswell go for a tablet..

Didn't I just.... ah cripes, forget it.

I dont believe leaving the iphone for only a larger screen is really a valid point, there is so much more difference between iOS and android.

I want next iPhone with 3.7 screen and 960x480 and then make an iPhone nano 3.5 with retina display and less features

Love the iPhone. Had all versions. Will have the next one too the day it's released. Still, the only thing that gives me phone envy at all is the big screen android phones. I'd love that screen size.

I don't believe there is any phone on the market right now that compare to the iphone aesthetics. It just perfect sized in every way. I use suits most of the time and some of these android phones just make you look like a pervert with a long lasting erection. I'm not complaining about the functionality or anything else.

If apple somehow add a bigger screen on the iphone without make it overall bigger, then everything is OK for me.

I dont understand why everyone wants a bigger screen. I had the droid X and absolutely hated how big it was. It was annoying to hold and to have in my pocket. I love the size of the iphone, perfect fit.

Some of you must be the same people in 2005 who would have asked, "why do I need email and internet on my phone? I have my laptop for that."

Clearly, with the popularity of 4"+ phones many people value the feature. If Apple comes out with it you'll say how amazing and well designed it is.

I agree miami :)

Used an HD2 before and the screen size was absolutely brilliant. 3.5' inch is def usable but I really want my phone to replace a computer and that means I need a larger screen.

HD2 also easily fit in my left back jeans pocket so I dont know what people are even talking about when they say "it's too big"

To me the more screen real estate the better :D

I disagree, some people like 4" screens, others hate them. I suppose if manufactures all go to 4" we wont have a choice but i bet if this was a poll about what size screen would you choose, 3.5 or 3.7 would win over 4"+

I dont think its really about the screen itself but in order to house all the internals the body of the phone has to increase too. If they could make a 4" screen inside of the same size current body that would be awesome!

Again picking a phone for a screen size alone is as silly as picking it simply because of the color.

No one picks a phone just for the screen size but its a big requirement for some that has to be fulfilled.

You don't just buy a car because of the color it is, but if you have your mind made up on a white car then you have your mind set on white and you wont buy any car unless it comes in white. Same idea with the 4' inch screen...

If the next iPhone doesn't have windows mobile I'm going to get a prepaid phone end on story!!

I dunno some of those Droids just look too big to me. I am really happy with the iPhone. A ways off but I can imagine myself picking up the latest iPhone in 2012 when my contract is up, regardless of the screen size. That said my fat fingers would probably appreciate a little extra room. If they can do it and still keep the screen small then I am all about it.

I want however much screen real estate they can cram into something with similar (if not identical) form factor to the iPhone 4. I could care less about an extra .5" of screen. If they can make it slightly bigger and still keep the retina quality...great. If not then that's cool too.

I just don't want some gigantic android-style brick mucking about in my pocket.

:apple:

My thoughts

I actually think the iphone 4 feels too small in my hand. So I would welcome a slight increase the width of the iphone 5 while keeping the depth the same or making it even thinner. Six months ago I sent Steve Jobs an email telling him that Apple needs to increase the screen size of future iphones to compete with Android. I hope somebody at Apple is listening.

Personally, I think the 3.5" screen is plenty big enough and I read books, e-mail, browse the web and watch movies on mine with no problem at all.
I don't really care if they put a bigger screen in or not, but what I do care about is that the overall dimensions don't increase at all.

If they can make the screen bigger but keep the overall size of the phone the same or smaller and don't make it impossible to use by putting the screen right up to the edge and push the home button to some impossible to reach part of the phone (or remove it completely and replace it with gestures that you can't do one handed), I'd be fine with it.

One thing I wouldn't be happy about though is if they make the screen bigger at the expense of the overall size or usability of the phone.

A big +1. This is exactly how I feel. I was bored and played with a Droid X the other day to kill some time. To keep it from getting too big the buttons on the bottom were tiny and especially with four of them made it a little awkward to use them (It actually illustrated that I like the one button design on the iPhone... and way back in the day when I had an iPaq the one button thing I made fun of. But it really does make the phone a lot more intuitive and easy to use).

So, long as they don't compromise usability, I'd be fine with a bigger screen. But I don't think a larger screen is worth compromising usability and portability.

How could anyone be so sensitive as to call this too large

Simple really, the Apple loving Android Haters. That's who.

It's funny how some people here think that their *opinion* on something that is completely *subjective* is fact. Hint, preference for screen size is a subjective thing. Meaning there is no fact. It's like you saying that anyone who likes the color red must not want to admit that they really like the color blue.

I do not want a larger device. I don't care what they do with the screen size as long as the form factor and size remain constant, and it's not a drastic increase. I have small hands, so too much of an increase would be prohibitive in a one-hand operation. I am happy with the screen presently.
