Used it many times, especially around the house when my phone is too far away from me. I usually would've missed the calls (some very important ones) however being able to answer on watch and continue on phone is very helpful.

Also, I am riding a bicycle for work every day so being able to take calls while I'm riding without having to stop, take my phone out is also so awesome.

Agreed 100%. The Apple Watch is indeed the worst product ever produced by Apple. I would expect a trinket of this poor functionality and almost clownish appearance and quality to fall from a cereal box. Apple Watch is a stain upon the Apple brand and the memory of Steve J.

Ummm...yeah I wouldn't go quite that far. It's a first gen product with some software kinks. The hardware is great and I couldn't disagree more with "clownish appearance". It's damn good looking watch.

I only use it around the house, it's actually very convenient. How's the weather up there on your high horse?

It's pretty cool because you don't even have to hold your wrist up to your mouth to talk into it. I can walk around with my arms down in a call and the other side hears me just as good as if I were using my phone. Apparently the watch has a great microphone. Speaker, not so much.

Edit: One more thought. I have a pretty small wrist and I think the 42mm is the perfect size. 38mm is tiny, even for me.

That's the great thing about having 38 and 42mm sizes to choose from. I think the 42mm looks huge on your wrist. I have small wrists too, so the 38mm works great for the "watch" look rather than the "smart watch" look.

But a lot of regular watches also have large faces, to me it doesn't give off the smart watch look at all. But you're right, it's great having the choice.

I think the criticisms presented in this thread are fair.

For myself, another issue is that I've found using Siri to respond to texts is far more cumbersome and disruptive than I initially thought. I am rarely in a quiet enough environment to dictate a response accurately (work and live in a major city) unless I'm at home. In addition, I am rarely in a situation where dictating a text into my watch isn't actually MORE disruptive to others than typing it out on a phone. Consequently, I just use the watch to notify me, but my phone to respond, which makes the watch somewhat irrelevant. (The notifications themselves have worked well, however) I concede that this is probably a built-in limitation to the device (a keyboard on the phone would be ridiculous), but I think it unfortunately would apply to others who live in large cities who rely on public transportation.

I agree 100% with the call volume. I either have to be in a silent room or hold it up to my ear. Hopefully most of this can and will be fixed with a software update. Can't wait!

Yeah. Hey Siri is trash. It works about 40% of the time in the quietest of rooms. Other than that I quite like my Watch - its a solid platform on which Apple can build future software. I'll probably have an AW2 next year anyways :p

HOCO band looks pretty decent (especially for the price). I ordered one as well. I just wish it was more integrated with the body of the watch instead of being attached with lugs like a leather band, but I imagine there will be third-party bands like that coming after a while.

As for activate on wrist raise, all of the false positives kind of bothered me at first too, but you have to realize that Apple has factored that in when figuring out the battery life. They know that it's going to turn on many times when you're not actively looking at it, and that's okay. I find that 9 times out of 10 it comes on when I actually want to check the time, and that's more than enough reason for me to keep it on. Plus, it allows you to use Hey Siri completely hands-free (when she works...)

It's just distracting to me when it turns on inadvertently. Maybe if I just left it on I would get used to it eventually.

I think you would. I did. Short of using some kind of mind-reading, there's no way to have a wrist detection feature that doesn't have a lot of false positives, but I don't really mind it anymore.

Yep, we're only on Watch OS 1.0. We have a long way to go. I'm pretty excited about future updates, though.

Even though I finally ordered a couple days ago. That's a reality I think about. Realistically a lot of issues won't get resolved until just before the next watch comes out.

We don't know what the release cycle will be like for the watch. I'm not so sure it will be yearly. My uneducated guess is that it will be bi-yearly.

Ok you convinced me, I'll give it another shot.

Kahuna all your issues sound like a software fix would take care of most of them.

If you mean the stuff listed in my first post, probably so.

If you mean the things about battery life vs full time display, I kinda doubt it. Sure, there is always going to be some improvements from software being designed better, but we are looking at maybe 192 minutes of battery life on the power reserve mode full time. I don't see any way you can improve software enough to let you have the display on full time, even if you minimize the lighted pixels. For that we'll need better (or bigger) batteries and more energy efficient components inside - possibly smaller ones to make more room for battery size.

Since I also ride a bike, I'm interested in this. You actually can hear and talk using the watch while riding? I would think, at the very least, that wind noise would be a problem.

I found another problem - at least confirmed it.

When I first got the watch, I tried to send a message, dictating it to Siri. When it got to the screen where you would tap "Send", tapping it, no matter how often, didn't work. I canceled and started over and it did work that time. Hoped it was a fluke, but today one of my phone alarms went off and I tried to tap "Dismiss" on my watch. Worked other times but, once again, that button didn't do anything this time. I believe both buttons are in the lower right corner so it is also possible that there is a problem just in that area, but I suspect it is more likely some other bug.

Anyone else have similar experiences? If so, where was the button located?

BTW, I charged up my watch yesterday till 1:25 PM. Before charging it again this morning (20.5 hours later) it was at 46%. Based on an almost 2 hour bicycle ride I did the other day, that would mean I could have done a similar ride and still avoided going into power saver mode.

The biggest thing the watch has going for it is consistent improvements we can reliably expect from Apple. Apple will not abandon this product six months after launch like other manufacturers would do. We will continue to receive software updates for several years.

Hit the nail on the head. This is exactly why I don't mind being an adoptee of first gen apple products. I had the first iPhone and iPad too. Although I ultimately found the iPad to not fit into my lifestyle and I don't have one at all today.

Great product. Shows Apple still has it.
Yes it needs a couple software updates to correct some minor things, but overall it rocks
And while it may be 1st generation it still has great features.
Remember its an accessory not a stand alone.

My activate on wrist works so good yet I hear others hating it. I wonder if it's a problem with their device?

I think it all depends on how tight you wear your watch. Mine isn't that tight and occasionally doesn't sit flush on my wrist when I try to see the clock. It's not that big of an issue to me and I attribute it to how I wear mine.

Ok I've found another grievance:

I went to take a little nap so I put my watch into Do Not Disturb which also mirrored onto my iPhone. When I woke up, I turned off Do Not Disturb fully expecting all my missed called and texts to show up on my Watch, they didn't. WHY??????

??? If you turn on DND, it will disable all notifications.
Notifications are never "replayed". So they cannot show up on the watch.

Apple pay needs to be easier.

Wrist raise needs to be more accurate.

Social/friends button doesn't need its own button, put something else like heartrate instead. It's such a chore to check heart rate during activities.

More faces.

Make setup less tedious.

Honestly I think when I raise my wrist. The display turns on for me about 90% of the time. I think it's pretty good. Only times that it doesn't is when I move my wrist in little movements. Then I'll have to lower my wrist and make a bigger movement to turn it on. Just my opinion.
