I’m going to switch from homedepot to Lowe’s. Homedepot needs to wake up and they aren’t getting my business until they get ApplePay

The acceptance of contactless payments and Apple Pay in USA by big retailers of USA depend on consumer demand.

What's still really annoying is when using Apple Pay at a pin-pad terminal (with my Apple Watch, for instance), I *still* have to enter the PIN for the card I am using! WHY?? Isn't my iPhone and AW pretty darn secure already? Both devices have to be unlocked to work!

The ironic thing about Home Depot was that when Apple Pay first came out, it worked there. I used it many times. They were actually one of few at that time. Then they upgraded their POS systems and poof it was gone. I actually emailed corporate asking about it and they replied to me they would restore it -- but this was many many years ago.

This is great news.
I almost shop exclusively at Lowe's to begin with.
One less reason to head to HD, as they still require us to upload a copy of the DD-214 to let them verify with a third party. Said third party should be able to tell without such personal document.
I don't remember HD doing that for mine.

I’m not going to drive out of my way just to use Apple Pay.
I use Apple Pay all the time, but agree, I won't drive out of the way just to use Apple Pay.

Everyone priorities things differently and I am not knocking anyone for being passionate about what they are passionate about, but I am sometimes surprised at how much people on the forum like Apple Pay enough to stop shopping at stores that don't accept it.

Except that the Walmart app gives me digital receipts, which I like.
I get digital receipts from lots of places that take Apple Pay. Heck, you can get an emailed receipt from Home Depot (who still won't take Apple Pay). HD is dumb though and still requires you accept a printed receipt too, why ask me if I want an emailed receipt if you're still going to waste the paper?

I won't shop Walmart except when absolutely necessary for a host of reasons so their not accepting contactless payments has little to no impact on me.

The Lowe's employees on Reddit said they were glad to hear about the rollout due to the number of customers asking to use contactless payment options.
I shop at Lowe's at least once a week, and I am pretty sure that they have contactless payment options.

Lowe's has more than 2,000 stores in the United States, making it the second largest home improvement store after Home Depot. Accepting Apple Pay could lure customers to Lowe's over Home Depot, as Home Depot does not accept the payment technology at this time.
Great news for people that will use Apple Pay at Lowe's, but I didn't know that HD, Lowe's, or Walmart didn't take Apple Pay.

The store credit cards give 5% cash back, and for HD and Lowe's, have great deferred financing specials, sometimes 0% for 24 months.

Much rather use the store cards rather than Apple Pay.

There have also been many complaint threads from Lowe's customers about the lack of Apple Pay on Reddit and the MacRumors forums.
I would think that anyone that shops at Lowe's enough to complain about it not accepting Apple Pay on Reddit and Mac Rumors would rather get the Lowe's credit card and save 5% on their purchases.

I prefer Lowe’s over Home Depot because:
Home Depot is a little closer, but I prefer to show at Lowe's for:

1. Until a few months ago, the Veterans discount at HD required using an app for verification for in-store purchases. The app would be always require a log-in, and 2FA would cause it to take forever to log-in. Of course I wouldn't remember this until I was at the register. Lowes has used a phone number for a long time, much easier.

2. All the Home Depots are always crazy packed in my area.

3. I have trouble finding stuff at Home Depot compared to Lowe's.

4. Open box discount are much better at Lowe's.

5. I don't have to wait in line to use the bathroom at Lowe's.

I still shop at Home Depot, but mostly online, as prices tend to be a little better and a lot more options than Lowe's.

Yes but even with Apple Pay I have to type in my email address or phone number to get the receipts electronically, and I'm using Apple Pay to avoid having to provide any information that could be scraped or captured. With the Walmart app the itemized receipt is automatically added to my account and I don't even have to touch the terminal.

I’ve been using ApplePay everywhere I can for years and haven’t ever had to enter a PIN as best I can remember.

Not even sure what any of my credit card PINs are actually.., though I think I have a couple stored in Enpass in case of emergency need of a cash advance.

Why would Apple Pay lure someone to Lowe’s over Home Depot? Are people really that picky over WHERE they shop over just Apple Pay acceptance? If a business doesn’t take Apple Pay, I just use one of my CC’s with chip/pin. I don’t even think twice about it.

I mean, I prefer Lowe’s over Home Depot because:

1) It’s closer to my house and
2) I regularly get Lowe’s gift cards for at least 10% off when Target or PayPal have promotions, so I rarely use a CC at Lowe’s anyway. I just keep my Lowe’s app wallet loaded with an instant 10% discount (more if I used my Target card for an extra 5% on the gift card).

Apple Pay is nice and all, and I use it at every store that I shop at that accepts it. But it doesn’t make a place I like to shop at a “non starter” due to its exclusion.
That's a you thing. For me, it does matter. I can't tell you how many times I've walked into Home Depot and walked out because I forgot they don't take Apple Pay. The Home Depot is closer to my house, but I'll go to Lowe's next time now just for this reason alone.

Locked what up? Shop at Lowe’s all the time and nothing locked up at my store.

This is an awesome news. I will definitely pick Lowe’s over HD now just because of Apple Pay. Hope HD converts soon.
It varies by region and which stores have problems with shrink (and in what departments). The Lowe's by me recently started locking up all of their spools of wiring behind a cage, likely because people were stealing it for the copper. They also lock up other items like small but expensive smart home electronics items (like Nest thermostats, etc.). Everything else is largely still open.

lol, you did it, they finally came through! But all that nudging eventually helped, so....

Well we're just down to the Walmart (and I think they're related to HomeDepot so same thing I believe) who wanted to fight the contactless payment process so they could try and convert people to using their solution (hazy on what that was, but there was something). Guessing they'll never give up on it. Could also see the angle of contactless instantly goes as a credit card charge (here in the U.S.) and the retailers would loose the time consuming pin based debit transactions from consumers which charges several percent less to them in fees compared to a full CC (tap and pay) charge. Probably would be quite a sum at Walmart's scale (and their tight margins).

Not really. I live in the Midwest and 90% of the places I go accept contactless. The only place I frequent without it is Kroger. Walmart doesn't take tap-to-pay either, but I don't shop there.

I don't really care if I use contactless or chip. I haven't swiped a mag-stripe in a couple years.
I thought Kroger accepts Apple Pay? The Kroger by my dad's place has accepted it since at least 2017

I live in Texas and the only places that I wish accepted Apple Pay is HEB and Walmart. Although, I don't care too much about Walmart because I use the Mileage Plus app to earn United miles but I wish that app accepts Apple Pay

If you’ve walked into a Home Depot MORE THAN ONCE not realizing they don’t accept Apple Pay and so much that you’ve lost track, then that’s another story :p

But seriously though, at that point, you’re in the store, and you likely already have another payment method in your pocket to complete the purchase. It’d be a waste of my time to do this song and dance to go to another store just to “stick it to the man” because I have to take a few extra seconds to use a CC.

These are corporations out to make a $$$, not touchy feely people with emotions. They don’t give a crap, because someone else will gladly step in and spend the money.

But everyone has their way of dealing with things. More power to you! This thread has opened my eyes to just how much value some people place on AP. I never realized it before.

Might be specific to each pos setup or bank security settings here in the U.S. The main grocery chain I use still requires pin when I use my bank debit card through Apple Pay.
