You guy's do know that ATT also has LTE, and that it is faster than Verizons?

Switching from ATT to Verizon is good if you get better coverage where you live. But switching for the sake of switching is not a good idea. Verizon throttles too. Same as ATT.

ATT LTE to 3G HSPA+ speeds is not a big drop off in data rates compared to Verizon. On verizon you can go from 20Mps down to 2Mps down. And until Verizon has nation wide and complete 100 percent LTE coverage your performance will suffer compared to ATT.

Heck, ATT HSPA+ is almost as fast as Verizons LTE.
Both ATT and VZW use 700mhz for LTE
LTE speed for VZW and ATT depend to avail 700mhz spectrum depth in each market/city. Also keep in mind that att's LTE is pretty empty now.
Overall VZW will have better coverage and spectrum depth and speed.

Since you think att is faster, i will leave this here for u LOL

Dont be upset cause someone said something about Verizon:D
And how do you know down the road VZ will have better coverage and speed than AT&T's LTE? Maybe AT&T will invest and roll out more unless you're a psychic...

Lol :D
I think its the other way around, I just sit there and laugh at how much you love Verizon and will defend them till death do you part:D
Its just a phone company bro...

No different than how so many here defend Apple till death do them part. It's just a packaging company for Samsung bro.

Offcourse people will like Apple in an Apple forum.
But a phone company? I guess if someone doesnt agree with him that Verizon is the best then he starts calling them a troll...

I got unlimited data on both providers but out here in Beautiful California, VZW is better. They are about even in Dallas where i commute to alot. LTE depends on Market. Reread my post, watch the video and pay attention

Best I've seen with AT&T is 66 mbs down, best I've seen with Verizon is 72 mbs down. Best I've had on Verizon was 50 mbs down, usually stays around 20 to 30 as an average. I don't have the means to test AT&T as often as I do with Verizon.

I think once an LTE iPhone is released both networks are going to take a major speed hit from congestion. However I believe Verizon will come out on top being their lte network is more mature and they already have so many people on it. But your location is what matters most, even if Verizon has better overall LTE coverage that doesn't mean crap if it's not in the areas you regularly travel too.

Currently and even though I've seen Verizon eek out ahead the best speeds I've seen are comparable and in real life won't matter. I'm mean come on, that's 3x faster then my broadband!!

So if you have the double data plan for a 4G phone...then go to an iPhone. Do you get to keep the doubled 4 GB's or does it go back to 2?

The bottom line is that no one can really answer this for sure until the time comes.

Once you're in the 20mbit+ range, speed doesn't matter all that much. Especially on a phone. Verizon's LTE map is significantly larger and growing faster. Won't be long until it's larger than AT&T's 3G network

HSPA+ is not as fast as LTE in practice. 95% of the time, I can't even get 2mbps on HSPA+.

Verizon throttles, but not in the same way as AT&T. They will only throttle by tower. Meaning that if you're a top 5% user on a specific tower, you will be throttled until you're no longer in that top 5% or you go to another tower. Makes a lot more sense than ATT's system.

Although ATT's LTE is faster in some areas than Verizon, they are no where near as robust as Verizon's network. With HSPA+, i could barely 1-2 down with the max I have ever seen is 6. With LTE so far, the lowest I have seen is 8 and the highest 33.

Carriers only throttle those who have unlimited. Being that I am on a Tiered plan, 10GB of unthrottled LTE for $41 beats Unlimited with a 3/5 GB soft cap in which you get throttled after.

You must live in a new LTE town where there are no devices attached. I am pretty sure these are the fastest speeds ever mentioned for a mobile device in all the time I have browsed this and the Android forums.

All depends on where you live and what device you have.
Also, AT&T uses LTE bands 4 (UL 1710 MHz to 1755 MHz DL 2110 MHz to 2155 MHz) and 17 (UL 704 MHz to 716 MHz DL 734 MHz to 746 MHz).
But an intersting side note is that AT&T also appears to have acquired some upper D block band 14 (UL 788 MHz to 798 MHz DL 758 MHz to 768 MHz) in certain areas as well.

Verizon only uses band 13 (UL 776 MHz to 787 MHz DL746 MHz to 757 MHz).

This is my best speed using an SGS2 Skyrocket.
I average between 30Mb/s and 40Mb/s download.

Galaxy Nexus is showing i am connected to Mobile Network type : 14 on VZW.
So can a unlocked att device be used on VZW since vzw uses band 13 and 14?

Not sure since any AT&T device would lack a CDMA radio for voice.
I suspect it's possible for a data only connection.

Interesting side note, I just checked my phone and it says I'm on LTE:14 in Phoenix.

I don't mean to burst your bubble, but I live in Dallas. And Dallas is also hq for AT&T. While I work for neither AT&T or Verizon, my coworkers and I do often talk about differences not only between iOS and Android, but also he handsets and how they differ on each provider.

90% of the time our testing of LTE in Dallas shows AT&T is indeed faster than Verizon. Mind you, its not scientific testing. Just some nerds/geeks testing side by side different devices on different providers.

Verizon is nice, but not as good as AT&T is in Dallas. Its logical due to the location.
If you're only getting rates close with AT&T vs Verizon here in Dallas, I'm curious as to where your'e testing at. And also what handsets are you using for AT&T and Verizon.

Not sure how new the networks are.

That's on a Xoom I believe. When I get home tonight I'll try to find the 72 mbs down I mentioned. It was in someone sig on a android forum just need to find it.

Someone else posted the/a 66 mbs down on AT&T.

Got in on $30 unlimited data 1.5 yrs ago (been a vzw customer for over 10 years now). 23% corp discount, got a 4s in November using my wife's upgrade and my line is now eligible... Just waiting for that LTE iPhone!!!!!

It all really depends on what area you're in and the network traffic in that area. Where I'm at there is no ATT LTE As of yet and the HSPA+ speeds are only pulling an average of 2 down while verizons LTE Pulls 10 down average.

Verizon LTE is "Amazing" but let's get real. Even on the 10GB plan, how much can you really do with it? At 65Mbps you will blow that cap in what, 15 minutes? :D (Yes I know $10 per GB after but that's called bending over...)

Uhh, Verizon has a bunch of people already on their almost 2 year old LTE network and ATT doesnt barely have anyone on LTE. SO no duh.....

Given the fact that Verizon has way better backhaul, I think as soon as five or more people have LTE ATT their speed will suffer greatly.

I think it's more about doing what you normally do just faster. Only reason I use more data is because I don't give up on things loading as much anymore.

Love to know where you got your "facts" on VZW's backhaul.

Truth is, Verizon and AT&T don't actually own most of the urban backhaul they use.

They purchase/lease bandwidth from local landline carriers to handle a majority of their urban traffic. In many cases they are buying it from the same provider. ;)
In some cases, they even lease backhaul from each other.
