Except when you maximize, it is now in the way. And it's an eye sore and visual distraction. It's also a hassle interface wise when scrolling your mouse above. I tried it in store on the Macbook Pros and admittedly haven't used it long-term but it feels so foolish to me. There's already a thick bezel on the bottom anyways...who really cares if there is one on top? The over-engineering and software needed to adjust to this is just silly....
You can Make the menu bar black to hide the notch so it blends in. After a long period I forget about it when the whole menu bar is black.

That notch on the smaller mac looks horrible, I still hate it on my m1 max 16” MacBook Pro

Yeah - one aggravating thing about the notch - is that if you scale up the resolution, the menu bar is always the same height as the notch - so the menu bar looks oddly thick.

Why didn’t he get the Midnight color?

When you maximize an application it maximizes so the top of the app window is under the notch.

Seeing it in action would have been better than the photos, which we have already seen shots of with WWDC.

Yeah but then you would be able to see iJustine’s hands and it would give away this “early delivery” recipient that has a suspiciously studio-appropriate space for these photos.

I always wonder how this happens since UPS/FedEx have strict contracts to hold the package even if it is in the area. I just assume it means the customer knows a guy at UPS/FedEx.

Are the bezels thicker or is it just me?

And if so why does apple keep doing that with its cheaper machines?

It cuts into the top of full screen apps

You’re not losing the space the notch occupies, you’re gaining the space on either side. Your windows are just as tall as they’d be otherwise. I used to be neutral towards the notch, but after getting mine, I noticed that you can change a setting to keep the menu bar visible on either side of the notch even when windows are maximized. Now I’m really happy it‘s there. The only problem I have is that overflow menu items aren’t automatically placed in a drop down (bartender can fix this I’m told), but I have so many items in my menu that overflow has always been an issue.

The tapered design was iconic. This one is so bland. I also have a company provided MacBook Pro 16” M1 Max and it has got to be the ugliest Apple laptop I’ve ever seen. I hate its design. Can’t believe where this company is going lately with bland designs, buggy software. It used to create the trends and is now behind the others with the ugly notch on the iPhones, etc. I love the M1 in my Air though. And it seems to be the last one with the tapered design. I’ll keep it for a while obviously. But good technology should come with good design. I hope someone changes things at Apple before they turn into the most boring tech company in the world.

considering the design language, it would have made more sense to me to call it an "MacBook", since the "MacBook Pro" is basically the high end "MacBook" (Air). I personally think the whole "Air" name should be a thing of the past.

iPhone - iPhone Pro
MacBook - MacBook Pro
iPad mini - iPad - iPad Pro

It could be so simple :) but I am sure they will throw it all out of the window by adding an iPhone Plus again haha
