The tapered design was iconic. This one is so bland. I also have a company provided MacBook Pro 16” M1 Max and it has got to be the ugliest Apple laptop I’ve ever seen. I hate its design. Can’t believe where this company is going lately with bland designs, buggy software. It used to create the trends and is now behind the others with the ugly notch on the iPhones, etc. I love the M1 in my Air though. And it seems to be the last one with the tapered design. I’ll keep it for a while obviously. But good technology should come with good design. I hope someone changes things at Apple before they turn into the most boring tech company in the world.

China already review it!!! Better than MKHBD or Ijustina!!!

In terms of people who make genuinely informative and thorough reviews, MKBHD and iJustine are certainly not anywhere near the benchmark to measure others up against. Especially in the case of the latter.

Popular review ≠ Good review

Silver is the best color. You won't get noticeable fingerprints like with the dark blue one. Also, the paint around the USB-C ports won't wear out, as there's no paint to begin with.
Yes! Additionally, the Apple logo stands out the best on the silver model, especially considering that it has been years since a MacBook logo has been illuminated. The logos on the other color models tend to be more subdued or actually blend into the case color.

Perfect because I also heard in one of the early reviews that the Apple logo is slightly larger than the M1 MBA. That will really make sure that everyone knows you own an Apple product.

I think for the next refresh they should make the Apple logo a bit lighter on the darker models.

A notch is ridiculous on a Macbook. It makes me less likely to purchase a new computer until I absolutely have to. I was considering it and giving up my M1 Macbook Air to my wife, who is still using a 2016 Macbook Air. I still notice the notch on my phone and think it's ridiculous there too. A thin bezel could change the image/interface/movie issues that come up. Ugh.
Yeah, I dont get this. That idiot Ive is gone yet we still have to deal with some other idiots idea of cool.

I agree with you Gene, as does my friends wife who got the 14" a couple months ago..

She calls it a "bath tub shape" that reminds her of her "Dad's old Dell"

Notch and moving way from the wedge is more than made up by the best trackpad in all laptops, really good speakers, bright, relatively accurate screen (if it’s an issue get a eizo or something because this is a base model laptop), great portability, wonderful battery life, best processor ever in a budget laptop.

People who are complaining about this laptop are not the target market for this laptop. If you think if this laptop has serious issues, please let us know which laptop in this market is better. Then buy it, and stop whining about a bloody notch! - just my random thoughts

Great review. Answers every question I had and a really down to earth look at Air v Pro. If you haven’t bought the 14” Pro, then you don’t need a pro, buy the Air

Fully agree - you might find laptops, that are better in one specific category, but nothing beats this package.

That's kind of ridiculous. It's feedback discussing a new product - and clearly each decision on a product is a compromise of some type. The notch isn't inherently better than no notch...it's a design and function choice that adds a compromise of a less seamless visual. Cleary some people care, and some don't but that's not "whining" and saying "go find a different product" - it's feedback.

The notch is just the latest villain for people who love to hate Apple. Even the reviewers who don't like it seem to admit that they forget about it after a few minutes.

You can tell this particular computer is bothering people because you're seeing the influx of "The M2 Air is Doomed!" posts. The fact of the matter is that the MacBook Air is the industry standard for general purpose laptop, which is obviously why it is Apple's best selling model. Now it's gotten with the times design-wise and gotten some more rocket fuel with the M2. It's going to sell like crazy, despite the price hike, because people just love the MacBook Air in general. This could be why Apple refuses to just call it a MacBook and be done with the Air stuff.

The same whining went on ad nauseam when the iPhone X came out and then everyone copied the notch. It’s more than feedback, it’s a compromise as you suggested, and one where the thinner bezels are more than mitigated.

My point was clearly that the positives add so much more than any notch. Removing the wedge is a design choice, and given the reviews, it seems to be one of the most popular.

As soon as Apple make a design choice/compromise, the Apple haters come running.

I dunno. I think your response was the extreme one saying "whining" and "haters" which is why I responded. I personally feel like the compromise is a mistake, and I would have no issue with just a slightly larger bezel, but do get bothered by the visual distraction of the notch on my phone and now potentially on a new computer. It's a forum for a hobby discussing computers. It doesn't mean we will never buy it because we'd like a difference. It doesn't mean that people aren't posting things even more ridiculous....but seriously...it's a topic. My post was not saying "don't ever buy a thing you are all bad people for accepting this" - it was simply a discussion point that you made more extreme in your response. That's why I find your response weird. I guess there are people looking to be "haters" but that's certainly not me - I was just part of a forum expressing my opinion that a design choice was a mistake and does indeed discourage me from purchasing in the short run. It doesn't mean I'm buying anything else - I agree, other than the notch I think the product is great.

You’re right. It was a bit extreme. I apologise. I was reading all the comments, and the number of people that were actually 'hating' on the notch was ridiculous. It was like it made this a bad laptop. I’m kind of sick of the negativity and I fell into that trap. Some people were actually saying that they would never buy the laptop with a notch, which when it comes down to 1st world problems, well…. There choice I guess. I try to focus on positives of the device, to which clearly outweigh the negatives.
