Somehow i’m actually disappointed in the new iPad. The new hardware is great, but i don’t remember hearing much in new OS changes. My biggest gripe with the iPP has been that the software is out paced by the hhardware, but now that seems to have gotten worse.

They advertise the new XDR display and compare it to the Pro Display, but is it still limited to a brightness slider and True Tone? Can we have custom profiles and calibration?

Even with the thunderbolt, just a bandwidth increas? No new display settings?

I’m glad the price hasn’t changed much, but I wonder when the software will catch up to the hardware. I have a 2018 1TB, so i don’t really have the upgrade itch, but I’m disappointed that this doesn’t seems like something i really want to upgrade to. I hope the next batch of MBPs dont have 5G and miniLED displays...

I like iPad OS as it is. Nice optimized powerful apps. It’s for a new generation of people who like working on touch based apps first and are not constrained by old workflows. There is a full featured affinity suite. With photoshop getting better, Lightroom etc. We have sharper 3D for cad drawings, LumaFusion for video editing (we may see a final cut mini at WWDC). Or directors and film studios can view cuts on the fly. Or people who wanna game. They can but on optimized apps for Apple. I know it will be downvoted. But you know what. iPad OS is a great OS for a lot of people.

Did not see M1 coming to iPad, which further blurs the line between iPad (pro) and Mac ( at least entry level)...
Maybe there will be touch screen coming to some macs running iPadOS in a window...
It’ll be interesting to watch this evolution

They are really gonna out-class the iMac with the iPad Pro. Wow.

OS changes come in WWDC later this year. You know that. They have been doing it this way for awhile now.

How long until someone hacks this to run MacOS?
I think they may release a dual boot version of iOS and MacOS at WWDC. The new iPad Pro is now essentially the same hardware as a Mac, the newly increased RAM and storage would make running MacOS work much better. Rather than crowbar together a touch based OS and desktop WIMP OS keep them separate but let users switch depending on the physical use situation and personal preference. everything is now in place it just needs OS updates. Personally I think it would be a fantastic option

let's wait till WWDC. It's pretty obvious today was a hardware announcement day.

One has to be a true idiot to buy this over a Macbook Air. I am sorry but those prices are complete madness especially with the 1TB/16GB option. It's an iPad!
Count me and my small business in as idiots. I love the MacBook but I rely on unlimited date in “the field“. Until the MacBook gets cellular and a touchscreen then I’m pretty much out. Granted our needs are not complex but the iPad has become the go to.

I am trying to understand what iOS App is going to take advantage of any of this when iOS Apps are usually optimized with the most used devices in mind and I would say these are still the iPad and iPad Air 4? I have yet to come across an app where I am like damn I wish this would run better

With technologies that are only going to appeal to specific audiences, surely that's the point?

The Air is more than enough for most people anyway.

If it ran Mac OS (too/dual-boot) then sure, huge value proposition for basically the same price as a Macbook Air.

It's overkill all but for a percent of a percent of people (movie studios, etc) when hindered by the OS as it already is on class-leading hardware before today. It has always been that story- the OS is holding it back.

What you say would be valid if there was another big screen low-cost option though. 11" and not (basically) 13". HUGE difference is real estate for side-by-side. An "Air Max" or what have you.
