**** this was my last straw, 6GB was never enough, apps crashing constantly due to lack of RAM and iOS's poor memory management, but holy **** I can't imagine 2TB with 16GB RAM is gonna cost prolly 3K CAD...

That much RAM for what? Did ANYONE have an issue with 6gb before? Even with multiple windows?
Yes, I’ve had many issues with RAM. And I have the 2020 iPad Pro. My issues aren’t with multiple windows, but when using apps with 3D modeling. You know using that new fangled LiDAR Scanner. Apps would crash constantly when scanning new stuff or viewing the model. RAM was absolutely an issue. I’m glad you can now choose a lot more RAM but not happy it’s tied to storage. Honestly for me, the entry level storage but upgraded to 16gb of RAM would be perfect. But with that increased base price (remember when the 12.9” iPad was introduced at $799?) and the RAM being tied to storage??. Ouch!!

All that jelly and no toast.
A ferrari 458 driving in a school zone
Phil Schiller complaining about his weight when he eat so much courage
Tim Cook with all that cheese but having no bread to spread it on
Craig F having thick eyebrows but without a shaver available

come on now, even joe biden thinks the ipad pro's are too malarkey. Where is the proper OS for utilizing all this power? It sure isn't iPadOS.

That would really be a niche scenario though too. The average person won't notice the difference as you even mention; such as split window already wasn't an issue.

I'm not saying don't give options and more power, but not everyone needs overkill specs (as you mention by the RAM only on the higher tiers).

Imagine if you could choose an A14 or M1 with varying RAM and storage specs like a real computer they keep pushing it as at a wide variety of price points.

It's STILL iPad OS, nothing there is different. They would have to make the OS far different to justify buying a more expensive iPad for an overkill M1 and mini-LED.
Still on 4gb - but even 6gb is a huge problem for one big part of their target group... illustrators. Procreate determines # of layers based on RAM.

I am currently illustrating a wide children’s book, which gives me 25 layers. Meaning I need to work in multiple documents and combine them in Photoshop.

I was hoping for 8 this time around. Now I am actually staring at the 1TB ipad and trying to justify the cost.

Or you could, you know, just buy a MacBook.
But a MacBook has like one potato camera.

iPad Pro has two 4K cameras front and back plus lidar. And a touch screen with pencil. And all the other sensor and tech goodies like 5G wireless, position/acceleration sensors for motion... and more.

the MacBook might as well be a netbook at this point with 2 ports. It's less hardware for more money.

Pretty weird. The top spec iPad is now $2,400.

Apple is talking about how having a unified architecture will allow people to more easily port applications to iOS, but they haven't even done it for their own applications like Final Cut or Xcode. Multitasking on the iPad is still pretty abysmal.

I'm surprised at this point Apple hasn't just merged iPad OS and Mac OS pulled a Microsoft and added a "tablet/desktop" toggle to just flip between the two.

So close to what I want. If this could run Mac apps so I could do Data Science work with Python and R, I’d just get this as my daily driver and wouldn’t need my laptop with dock and iPad.

I fully understand Apple's hypocrisy that creatives are the only "professionals" to them, and no one with a doctorate etc are. Not their target group.

Perish the thought that a doctor or lawyer wants just a big screen to use and doesn't need all that power. I guess to Apple those are cash cows "who can afford it anyway..."

It is interesting how they define what a "pro" is and what they need or don't need. Typical Apple fashion though.

The easier answer is my above post:
"Imagine if you could choose an A14 or M1 with varying RAM and storage specs like a real computer they keep pushing it as at a wide variety of price points."

You could get a loaded model or a "base" A14/8gb RAM/128gb storage still for $999 and still enjoy 13 inches of real estate. Or 16gb RAM and 128 or 512, etc etc. Or load it up with the M1, 16gb RAM, 512/1tb/2tb storage based on your needs.

I'd like to see the future of Apple return to Jobs'-like ideation. Combining the iPad with the MacBook seems to be the story-arc they're projecting, evidenced by the year-over-year swapping of best in class features.

I think we will start to see a decline of people saying the iPad Pro isn't a computer replacement.
Hardware has nothing to do with it being a computer or not. The hardware was NEVER lacking going years back now. The A-series could run a full PC operating system on 6gb RAM.

It's always been the OS limiting. Until iPad OS evolves it won’t be a replacement for tons of people out there.

An outrageous amount of money for what it is... now, don't get me wrong, it defines the word "impressive" without a doubt, but $2400? You can buy a used car for that kind of money lol.

There is the issue, you can now get a Macbook Air for less running full Mac OS with a keyboard. That still runs iOS apps now too.

I get no touchscreen but a far better rice value. You can get a REALLY nice laptop with touch these days for the same cost as $1100 (or more) plus needing to buy a keyboard).

This pricing is really making the bigger Pro a niche device to creatives and that's about it.
And gosh it's lighter too! (than the 12.9 with Magic Keyboard)

Lighter, cheaper, better stability (keyboard permanently attached), bigger trackpad. An OS that actually uses 16GB of RAM and has a file system so you can actually use 2TB of SSD ...

To me these specs (impressive) and price (equally impressive, but not in a good way) really put the pressure on Apple‘s software at WWDC. No way do I personally think this new iPad is justified unless Apple puts out their own professional iPad apps and brings iPadOS to another level.

Hardware and software. Apple sure has the hardware here, and the Apple level price to back it. Now just need to bring home the software.
