Everyone knows it’s coming, it been almost a year since M1, so I’ve been waiting a long, long time at this point.

I just want to know how much it’ll cost, base spec, and if I’ll have to remortgage my house to match the 3 TB storage I have in my old MacBook.

I’m hoping the loss of touchbar and drop year-by-year in storage prices might make them somewhat reasonable like M1 was. But equally, since there’s little alternative option for MacOS high end laptop and no doubt a high demand, if I’m a captive market they’ll try to milk money from.

(And if supposedly 16 or 32 core graphic options, how well the 16/32 cores benchmarks compare to some Windows gaming laptops, and again, how much they’ll cost as upgrades)

The only proof I see is that supplies of the 2019 16" rMBP have seriously dwindled in the past couple of weeks. Any CTO config you'll now wait over a month for delivery.

I’ve taken a big gamble and just sold my intel 16”. I’ve never won much at the casinos so hoping my luck changes here. Crossing fingers an announcement comes soon. This also marks the first time in over 20 years I’m without a Mac.

Wow. Brave move.

I have the 4tb now. I am a director doing commercials. I like like be able to keep at least one days shoots footage on my laptop as I review it mobile. Instead of having to be at the studio.
What about external storage?
He has better stats that Prosser, and most of his predictions are not about sating the obvious. Just read the list.

I don't know the guy, but I find it strange that, on macRUMORS, Gurman is so much disparaged despite being the main source of accurate leaks.

As for Prosser, and don't mind him. I think many don't like his style in YouTube videos.
I don't like him.
does anyone know if the M1x chip will support two external monitors? That's a must for me and a shortfall of the M1. So ready for an upgrade!
This is one of the main features expected.

Apple did refresh the refurb store inventory yesterday. I needed to buy a high end 16" rMBP configuration this week on an expedited basis and was able to order what I wanted.

So, yeah... I don't know. 🤷

Is there proof of an event in October at this point?
Proof? No. Strong supporting evidence? Yeah.

  • Mark Gurman, who is accurate in ~87% of his predictions, says new MBPs will be announced 'within the next month' - this is really the kicker. Gurman doesn't like to be wrong, and only gives extremely vague predictions and timelines until he is confident
  • 16" MBP supply from Apple's Online Store has dwindled to a week+ shipment times and there are virtually none available in physical Apple Retail Stores
  • New screen resolutions, presumably for new 14" and 16" MBPs, were found in macOS beta code last week
  • There were supply-chain reports that the MBPs entered mass production during the first week of August, which would indicate a release roughly two months later (aka right about now)
  • No macOS Monterey release date was announced at the September event, which to me implies there will be an October Mac event where that date is revealed

So jealous of you guys with wallets ready. I have like half of what I need now, but I will get it eventually. Or perhaps they ditch a better screen and put the price a bit lower than the current model, one can always hope :)

But never the less SUPER excited about the announcement since I will eventually get one. Crazy though we don't even know how it is going to be if it is a great computer or not. 🤞

Also, my bet is on November actually. Just because some guy on here said Monterey updates seem to be lining up for that.

Most people are betting on November. Gurman also said November.

I thought he said sometime this month. October.

He published this on October 3 on his Power On newsletter:

"The Apple M1X chip, the likely name for a more graphics-intense and professional-focused M1 chip, is indeed still on tap for 2021. We'll likely see it show up first in a new range of MacBook Pros in the next month and a higher-end Mac mini at some point. The M1X has been developed in two variations: both with 10 CPU cores (eight high-performance and two high-efficiency) and either 16 or 32 graphics cores."

Where does this 'most people' claim come from? And it is factually incorrect to claim that Gurman said November, because, well, he didn't.

You're right, I should change it to "some" people. I just assumed most people trust Gurman.

I have a blackmagic eGPU pro Vega collecting dust on my desk because the 5600m is more than enough.

Well, it does still have purpose as a ridiculously gorgeous hub! I briefly owned the first edition. It didn't do much for me, but I was so drawn to it that I considered keeping it anyway.

I don’t think you’re interpreting this how he meant it. He seems to have meant within the next 30 days a la “within the next month” and not ‘in the next month, the month that follows the one we’re in.’

He also explicitly said “Apple typically does its major new Mac introductions in October. So stay tuned."

If Gurman wrote "in the next month" then that's November. If he meant "next 30 days" then it would be "this month." Why are we trying to rewrite his words when it's such a simple sentence?

MacRumors editors did their own interpretation of Gurman's piece, but that doesn't mean it's correct.

He also explicitly said “Apple typically does its major new Mac introductions in October. So stay tuned."

That's typical Gurman padding language in case it's not correct.
