So it is possible to have a more useful OS on an iPad?
"More useful", not this is about Windows.

It's certainly possible to have a less secure OS on iPad. Well done, technocrats of the EU!So it is possible to have a more useful OS on an iPad?
But they're going to add more emoji. It's a bit like playing a hoedown on a Stradivarius.
No, the market actually does. If consumers preferred a "full desktop OS" experience on tablets, we would have see a successful tablet that has that experience. However, we don't, and in fact Microsoft's OS share among tablet OSes is .01%. Less than Linux! The market actually doesn't.... Apple does what it wants .....often disregarding trends, market preferences and common sense if it goes against its "strategic position"....
Isn’t Windows 11 natively written for ARM based CPUs?Super interesting, but Windows ARM itself is just a subset of x86 windows. I'm not sure I really see a benefit to running ARM, unless you prefer the UI.
I mean, isn't iOS/iPadOS still Darwin-based, hidden away under the covers somewhere?I want UNIX or a variant on my iPad.
There is an ARM version. The problem is Microsoft has an exclusive contract with Qualcomm so Apple Silicon is not licensed to run it.Isn’t Windows 11 natively written for ARM based CPUs?
Sadly, Oracle is retiring Solaris & SPARC processors (assuming we're talking the same thing).I mean, isn't iOS/iPadOS still Darwin-based, hidden away under the covers somewhere?
Personally, I'm waiting for Solaris on iPad /s. It would be kinda cool if Apple re-released A/UX as a nostalgia toy, though...

Tell me you don't use windows without telling me you don't use windows. I have a macbook pro and a Windows laptop, they cover different needs.I mean, if you think Windows is "useful", then you must use your computer just to watch the time.
Just because it's apple doesn't mean it's secure. I'd argue Windows is maybe safer as everyone knows (techphobe parents aside) that you need to protect it, and that people are out to get it, whereas lots of people here seem to think that Ios/IpadOS/OSX is impenetrable and that the EU is sponsored by bad actors (HINT: They aren't).It's certainly possible to have a less secure OS on iPad. Well done, technocrats of the EU!
It's been done.It's a bit like playing a hoedown on a Stradivarius.
I use my iPad Pro more than my Mac. I rather have 2 separate devices perfect for the tasks I need done then 1 not great at anything. I like the fact that the hardware in the iPad is so powerful that I don’t have to upgrade devices for years. I went from a 2018 pro to last years model and plan to keep the m4 pro just as long.Apple will fight this, it shows that the iPad hardware has outgrown iPadOS.
I personally prefer my iPad to be a separate device from my Mac. I take my iPad Pro with me everyday I have to go in the office. It’s where I write all my have written notes and keep access to all my pdfs. It makes working hybrid very seamless and has completely moved me away from paper. I work in a finance department for a hospital a lot of my coworkers still print out all the insurance rate sheets and then have to sort through stacks of paper. Me I just pull up the original pdfsI know many do not understand this, but there are lots of people that buy an iPad because it is basically an iOS device and is not driven by not a fully fledged "PC" OS with all its complications. "Usable" is context dependent.
The hardware is ok to good, the problem is the software is years behind the competitorsAs a prior long-time Kool-Aid drinker of Apple products, I find this possibility intriguing. 👏
