This might be a good as a prank to play on someone you really disliked. I can see myself tossing an iPad in the trash if someone did this to me 😂

The market actually doesn't.... Apple does what it wants .....often disregarding trends, market preferences and common sense if it goes against its "strategic position"....
No, the market actually does. If consumers preferred a "full desktop OS" experience on tablets, we would have see a successful tablet that has that experience. However, we don't, and in fact Microsoft's OS share among tablet OSes is .01%. Less than Linux!

Apple doesn't have some magic spell that makes people buy products they don't actually want.

I want UNIX or a variant on my iPad.
I mean, isn't iOS/iPadOS still Darwin-based, hidden away under the covers somewhere?

Personally, I'm waiting for Solaris on iPad /s. It would be kinda cool if Apple re-released A/UX as a nostalgia toy, though...

Now you gonna have a whole bunch of people whining that iPadOS is as good or even more capable than MacOS or Windows, because they can read and annotate pdfs on their ipads :)

Sadly, Oracle is retiring Solaris & SPARC processors (assuming we're talking the same thing).

Isn’t Windows 11 natively written for ARM based CPUs?

No. There's another build for ARM machines that they make as all these Snapdragon Arm laptops hit the market about a year ago, so it became more widespread. The vast majority of Windows 11 builds run on Intel and not Arm.

It's been around round for a while before that. Parallels emulation for Mac uses it also (and VMware).

To me, this just makes the iPad seem like a worse product than it actually is. I've seen videos of the M1 iPad virtualizing Windows 11 at full speed on an earlier version of iPadOS with proper side loaded UTM. With whatever security concerns put aside, I assume Apple could just flip the switch back on and show everyone how capable this little tablet actually is.

Assuming I didn't already have one, if I was in the market for a tablet and needed to run desktop applications. I'd likely be looking at a Surface Pro or another Windows tablet. Let me virtualize Windows (or macOS) on an iPad, all of a sudden an iPad is very appealing to me.

iPadOS and macOS are the modern day Siri. They just limp along reveling in their past glory., while iOS get half-baked features that are not worthy of a Keynote mention.

I mean, if you think Windows is "useful", then you must use your computer just to watch the time.
Tell me you don't use windows without telling me you don't use windows. I have a macbook pro and a Windows laptop, they cover different needs.

OSX>Windows>IpadOS

It's certainly possible to have a less secure OS on iPad. Well done, technocrats of the EU!
Just because it's apple doesn't mean it's secure. I'd argue Windows is maybe safer as everyone knows (techphobe parents aside) that you need to protect it, and that people are out to get it, whereas lots of people here seem to think that Ios/IpadOS/OSX is impenetrable and that the EU is sponsored by bad actors (HINT: They aren't).

I’m not a fan of everything the eu does in terms of regulation. But they were right to force Apple to use usb-c on iPhone (just like Apple was already doing on iPad Pro and Mac).

And as it pertains to Apps, this innovation to allow windows 11 on iPad suggests that maybe Apple’s restrictive App Store policies were in fact in some ways stifling innovation.

Apple should allow parallels on iPad so we can run windows or Ubuntu or any os. That would be a super interesting use case. I use parallels on Mac to run both windows and Linux. And they run quite well too.

Apple will fight this, it shows that the iPad hardware has outgrown iPadOS.
I use my iPad Pro more than my Mac. I rather have 2 separate devices perfect for the tasks I need done then 1 not great at anything. I like the fact that the hardware in the iPad is so powerful that I don’t have to upgrade devices for years. I went from a 2018 pro to last years model and plan to keep the m4 pro just as long.

While I don't like Windows to much it's more open than iOS / iPadOS and this would allow using tons of software that won't make it to the App Store.

I mean as a “try it out”, fine but why would any average iPad user want to use something like this??? Emphasis is on “average”

I know many do not understand this, but there are lots of people that buy an iPad because it is basically an iOS device and is not driven by not a fully fledged "PC" OS with all its complications. "Usable" is context dependent.
I personally prefer my iPad to be a separate device from my Mac. I take my iPad Pro with me everyday I have to go in the office. It’s where I write all my have written notes and keep access to all my pdfs. It makes working hybrid very seamless and has completely moved me away from paper. I work in a finance department for a hospital a lot of my coworkers still print out all the insurance rate sheets and then have to sort through stacks of paper. Me I just pull up the original pdfs
