Better question is, why did Apple even release the 13” MBP? Early reviews (actual, independent reviews, not people chosen by Apple marketing) show that it doesn’t even maintain performance under load, and thermally throttles in spite of the fan.

Apple has a bad habit of releasing products that shouldn’t exist, will be discontinued very shortly, or are still being sold well past their lifetime. See 13” MBP, 2020 Intel MacBook Air (7 months before M1 version and in the same year), and of course Apple Watch 3.
The 13” MBP is their 2nd best selling Mac. It obviously has a market. You may not be in that market and neither am I but Apple knows that there is a part of their customer base that wants that model. Perhaps its the familiar shape, perhaps its the touchbar. One likely market is corporate purchasers who have the 13” MBP on their approved purchase lists.

I suspect that in the next year, we’ll see a new model come out that replaces this in their price tiers but until then, the minor M2 update to the MBP was all that Apple was willing to change about that laptop.

I honestly think the MBA is going to replace the 13" MBP as the second best selling Mac now that the 14" MBP exists and the Air isn't crippled by Intel chips.

True, but I think 90% of those users should buy the 14 or 16" anyway. Especially with 16gb ram and 512gb+ storage the price difference isn't that huge. Seems like a very small niche, people who have quite a heavy workload that can't be done on the Air, but still can't afford the 14".
WEIGHT!

totally. no way these people got machines ahead of time without being provided talking points and scripts. I'll wait for real-world reviews from reputable critics vs online "influencers"

And even if not provided scripts..

These characters all know to "watch what they say" or the next products won't show up on their doorstep.

It's a power dynamic that is enormously skewed towards Apple, who provides the access many of these folks need to simply have a viable business.

I really enjoy watching iJustine. Her real world editing provides excellent examples of what the machine can do. She mentioned how the machine got warmer during the process, but still performed well with editing video most MacBook Air users will never attempt.
I watched her video. She seems to be a very affable lady and I like her enthusiasm.

I give her credit for taking the time to show side by side comparisons.

Showing a few seconds of her using FCP on the Air to edit a few seconds of video here and there was never in question anyway, so to me, that part of the video was fluff and filler.

As to a review, her video really wasn't a review, in my opinion. The video was spamming her partnership with another company, which is in very poor taste when she was supposed to be reviewing a unit she got early for said purpose. She also didn't take the time to speak to using the Air day to day with apps many of us use or may use. Her video was about her not the product. She missed the mark. And if I were Apple, I would be saying something to her about pitching plugins like she did. At the end of the video, I felt I had wasted my time.

ehm, why its slower than mbp m2??? i didnt know that removing fans makes a cpu/gpu faster...
i think theres something wrong with those benchmarks as its also stated:

The M2 Air is a better choice for the vast majority of people over the 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro model, even though the Pro has slightly better performance and longer battery life.

From those benchmarks, m2 air its faster than pro...

I really hope the delivery estimates won't be too long this time around, especially considering the lockdowns around China. The Apple Studio Display with Tilt and Height adjustment stands are still out 3 months. I ended up canceling the order and figuring out an alternative setup for my work flow. I still plan on getting it, but will probably hold out for another year especially with the recession hitting. I'm not sure whether or not the current state of the economy will slow down sales, especially after the recent lay offs in tech.

My MBP is a dream machine. I can throw anything at it, and it's absolutely great when I need to get real work done. However, the weight of this machine is not really the best for typing and surfing the web on the couch... it's a big boi. I sold my 2020 MBA after the announcements for MBA2.

Are the rumors for the 15" MBA for 2023 a sure fire thing? 🥺 I would love a large screened + lighter weight option for coffee and couch setting - I miss my 2020 MBA for those reasons, but would wait for a 15" MBA option.

With those benchmarks, why would anyone buy the 13" MacBook Pro?
Or, why buy the M2 Air over the M1 Air? Those benchmarks and the reviews only paint a partial picture. The M2 Air (based on M2 MBP tests) will be significantly slower than the M1 Air in other real world tests because of the SSD. Just having multiple apps open slows things down considerably on the base M2 machines, not to mention the overheating/throttling issues that have been discovered.

As people (not Apple shills) get their hands on the M2 Air and start running more tests, I think a lot of people will have buyer’s remorse.

If a person gets up in arms over meaningless bench test instead of trying the Mac over 14 days with typical usage, then that is an issue with the person and not Apple, in my opinion.

literally disinformation and a lie on every level. i agree reviewers are sometimes fawning over apple, the way to combat that isn't through exaggeration on the other side.

Reminds one to not be first in line to buy whats new usually. Wait a couple of weeks for the real extended time usages reviews that give honest perspectives using various software compared to hastily prepared first looks.
