Because whenever I buy a new computer I buy the highest spec available in the form factor I want.
I mean, you do you, but that’s just throwing money away. A Mac mini has the same form factor, costs a third, and likely will last just as long.
Because whenever I buy a new computer I buy the highest spec available in the form factor I want.
You are talking about cross platform development. That's a different story
(and BTW, web developers care about Safari very little because Safari market share is really low).
Hence constant discussions about how to emulate/port Windows apps on Macs (including lots of discussions here on MR) and nothing of sorts among PC users.
This Apple engineer said no DXVK was used: ”We built a dxil to metallib converter and directx11 and directx12 to Metal runtime translator. Non graphics APIs are translated by Wine. But we don’t use any tech from moltenVK or DXVK or spirv-cross etc. The shader converter can be shipped by games and can be used in the game developer asset pipelines.”
Are you trying pretend that the issue of Macs unable to run games emerged only after VP was announced? That's a very weird take. Also Apple does not have superior products across the entire PC line. In fact their products cover very small range in PC line: no budget PCs, no industrial PCs, no 4G/5G enabled laptops, no desktop workstations, no real desktops, no mobile workstations, no gaming laptops, no Chromebook type computers, no stick computers, no AIO computers or laptops with touch screens, no laptops with OLED screens, no two-in-one computers and on and on.That's a dumb analysis. A better analysis is
(a) one of the drivers (not the only, but one of the drivers) for Vision Pro uptake will be games. Hence there's value for Apple to get some top tier games on the platform for when it is released. They probably won't have to try to hard to persuade game companies -- after all the developers themselves will want their games on this hardware -- but the cheaper and faster you can make the porting process, the better.
(b) Apple is at the point where they clearly have a superior product across the entire PC line. So why do they not have market share at 50%? 70%? 90%? It's time to start tackling the issues that prevent various niches from moving over. They won't compromise the product to reach everyone, but they might as well make minor changes if that allows an additional 10% market share to move over. Games is an example of such a situation. Some things (like external GPUs) will not be supported because they compromise the long term plan; but other things, like just making it easier to port games, why not?
The point is: nobody is virtualizing MacOS on PCs thus talking about superiority of MacOS is pure rubbish. No PC user is missing MacOS and market share of Windows dwarfs that of MacOS.Why?
It’s massive on mobile. You can’t ship a web project without testing on safari.
I mean, I do virtualize Windows, but I don’t see your point.
I am a Mac guy and honestly over the last couple of OS iterations I've had more issues with Mac OS than my Windows box.The reality is, the M-series chips are competing head-to-head with AMD and Intel. That’s great! The big difference maker though (with the chips being roughly equal in performance) is that with Apple you get macOS paired with the iOS ecosystem, and with Windows you get… a bunch of problems.
Wow! That’s pretty impressive. Way ahead of the competition. 🐎

Actually, not really. If you look at the entire test results it doesn't even really beat out a 13900.
At least the wait times are significantly shorter this time round, I waited nearly four months for my Studio last year. The difference is going to be insane - got to wait 4 weeks for it though.. the 76 core option pushes it out from 1-2 weeks to 3-4 weeks…
The M2 Pro Mac Mini will handle 3 monitors with ease. The base M2 Mac Mini will not.If you had three 24 inch monitors and you were contemplating getting a desktop Mac, which would you choose or recommend: base model Mac Mini M2 or base model Mac Studio M2/M1? I feel like a Mac Mini base model or M2 Pro would struggle driving 3 monitors in addition to daily usage.
They were. But this was not PC users desperate for MacOS. These were MacOS users desperate for PC hardware. Are you saying "Hackintosh"es weren't a thing?
Thanks for letting me know because I think the Studio is overkill. The M2 Pro Mac Mini will handle 3 monitors with ease. The base M2 Mac Mini will not.
It’s not about Windows itself… it’s about how Windows doesn’t sync to the rest of my life. CarPlay, iPhone, AppleTV, HomePod, and other aspects.I am a Mac guy and honestly over the last couple of OS iterations I've had more issues with Mac OS than my Windows box.
Overall I like MacOS a whole lot better than Windows; but stop being disingenuous about Windows. I do critical stuff on Windows all the time and it works just fine.
The whole Mac vs PC is so f******** old these days, comparing who has the biggest weiner! Buy what makes you happy. Most people have PCs and Android phones & devices which is awesome, seriously congratulations! A lot of us are Apple enthusiast, do you need to 💩 on us to feel better about yourself? Give it a rest. Apple makes the best Apple stuff period. PCs & Android make the best PC & Android stuff period. Use what you want for what you need. 🙏🏼Are you trying pretend that the issue of Macs unable to run games emerged only after VP was announced? That's a very weird take. Fair enough; I agree with all of that. I absolutely do nothing on my Windows box but play games and do the one work thing that can't be done on my Mac. (Software is Windows only; and I am not doing boot camp on my Mac anytime soon.)It’s not about Windows itself… it’s about how Windows doesn’t sync to the rest of my life. CarPlay, iPhone, AppleTV, HomePod, and other aspects.
Windows is fine for any sit down computer tasks. But that’s where it ends for me.
we're talking about ultra pros nay companies, they need as much power as possible, and at this game the m2 ultra reallly isnt impressive compared to 3495X...The Xeon w7 2495X scores 2185 / 16671
There’s also the 3495X, which is more similar to the 2019 Mac Pro, but it draws a lot more power.
yeah expected much much moreLame results compared to high end x86.
that dude compared intel gb5 with AS m2 ultra gb6 hahahah
Totally wrong. 13900K series are way higher than that which is around 3500, 255000.
Same here I wanna see M2 Ultra vs RTX 4090 vs AMD 7 seriesI want to hear the graphics results
M2 Ultra is extremely slower than x86 workstation CPUs in Geekbench (best case scenario app). It's even slower outside of Geekbench than last year's mainstream 13900k that is only around $500-$600. LOL
