I’m still blown away that ppl actually buy iMacs w/ 8GB or RAM and 256 GB storage. I know Apple has performed extensive market research confirming a segment of buyers will be satisfied w/ those specs. But damn, still blows me away. I actually wish Apple retail stores and Best Buy would stock maxed out iMacs in limited quantities. Oh well here’s to wishful thinking! 🍺
My mother in law is happy as a clam using her 2009 core 2 duo iMac with 4 gb RAM. It only has 4 because I upgraded her myself about 5 years ago. She refuses to upgrade. If only the iMac would die on its own…

I just got billed 30 seconds ago for my MBP 14" M3 Max which is due to arrive 20 - 22 Nov. Any chance it could arrive sooner now do you think or is that a pretty standard lead time to get billed in advance? (Not an issue I got billed, just curious on if it might arrive sooner) Thanks

I don’t think the M3 Pro would be worth it. The M3 Max would require extensive interior mods for additional cooling I would guess. This was a simple update for Apple, kind of lazy if you ask me. Still a nice computer, but they have literally done nothing in 2 years except a chip update. A bit odd honestly.
they can put pro/max chips in mbp but not imac?

iMac is a rock solid proof that Tim doesn't want to innovate. You can do so much with iMac. It can be an all-in-one that can also function as external display for Macbooks. When it is idle it can also function as widget-full display for home. It can do so much. Stop ripping off loyal customers with bs gimmicks and make real innovation, Tim.
I totally agree.
It started great with the launch of M1 iMac, and I assume many were hoping to see a larger screen and a bit more powerful.

Probably that's why iMac didn't sell as well.
I would have preferred to see
24 and 32 or 32 inch size - with configurable Mx specs, RAM and storage.

I was thinking to save some money to buy one iMac M Pro or M Max....

Local store has stock for the M3 Max binned model. Brothers finally reunite.

My hunch is that Apple estimates that the Venn diagram of customers who want a big 5K+ display overlaps signficantly with customers who need faster Macs -- and who are interested in updating their CPU separately from their display.

As much as I like my iMac M1 and appreciate the simplicity of the design, I do recognize that the separated CPU model gives me a ton more flexibility and a cleaner upgrade path. I can pair an Apple Studio Display (or any other) with any other computer Apple sells, from a MacBook Air to a Mac Pro, and I can switch horses at any point if my needs change.

I’m still butt hurt about Apple limiting Space Black to the real Pro models. 😂 I will admit to being a wanker who doesn’t need Pro power but just love the color. My M1 MBA is more than enough but have always hade a soft spot for black Macs since the early 2000s black MacBook days.
Same, that's apple being a greedy SOB because they damn well know a lot of apple fans consider aesthetics when making a purchase like this.

I Gave up on a 27 inch iMac update. Got the Studio Ultra with Studio Display. I should be set for a very long time.
I was close to doing this but seeing that the M3 max is almost on par to the M2 Ultra makes me conflicted. I’m either going to just bite the bullet and sell my m1max mbp 16 and get the m3max or wait for the studio m3 ultra which unfortunately likely won’t be released until June 2024.

Also, local store did have the m3 max 16 16/40 48gb 1tb in stock (it’s now gone after just a hour-so stock was likely low) but I really need more than 1tb for editing videos.
