Oh come on guys.... Allow me to remind you that Apple are a small start up who lack the internal resources to test these things before launch day! "These things" being making sure your latest laptops can run your latest software...

I mean launching a brand new laptop and a brand new operating system with 164,000 employees and a Billion bucks in the budget is tough.

It has nothing to do with any specific OS, but rather Apple’s servers aren’t configured correctly and they dont think the new Macs are eligible to run Sonoma.

it is pretty odd considering Sonoma released late September and these machines are shipping in early November that they're still on Ventura in the first place. I think this is a first?

But this is good for people who want to be on Ventura, in my opinion... not being able to not update to Sonoma for now but that older OS is available.

Sometimes people want new hardware but not to deal with new software quirks that come with the 'latest and greatest' shipping OS. Downgrade ability.

Even if you install Sonoma via Install assistant you can brick your M3 MBP easily by disabling Promotion and restart of computer after that 😂😂😂

The hits just keep on coming. This is officially a poop show. Well done Apple. Well played. Now queue the Apple apologists to say this is a feature, not a bug.
It’s not the end of the world. Mistakes happen. It’s an easy fix manually or stay on Ventura for the non- tech users until Apple fixes the OTA update. Not a big deal.

I wonder if they are shipping Macs on the slow boat across the Pacific to save on shipping costs, and to accommodate for the slow freight method they started stockpiling months ago resulting in this issue.

I’m pretty sure it’s happened previously When the initial Macs shipped with the previous OS. If I were to guess, when these M3 SoCs were ready for OS installation, the Sonoma final release probably wasn’t ready so they installed Ventura.

Please DM me if you got one of the new Macs running this version of Ventura 13.5 (22G2074 or maybe 22G2080), or a special preinstalled version of Sonoma 14.1 (23B2073), so that before you update it, I can walk you through the process of dumping the OS for archival purposes, since Apple doesn't provide downloads for them. It only requires a boot into the recoveryOS, a few terminal commands, and some external storage (with at least as much capacity as the Mac's internal storage).

Not many people want these OS's, but they won't be able to have them if no one archives them.

Is this one of the things they’re shipping by boat now? Because that’s the only thing that makes any sense at all. And that still doesn’t explain why it’s not able to update, unless there’s just some weird CDN delays.
