This is so Apple...
Comes with the ecosystem thing I guess. This cannot really be a thing in PC/windows world since hardware and OS is totally decoupled in their release cycle.

But that being said it this should not happen.

So the new M3 MacBook Pros have a version of Ventura that pre-dates the Mac OS versions that introduced the “bricks the computer when ProMotion is turned off bug”? Having personally experienced that one with four M1/M2 MacBook Pros in the last several weeks, and waiting for an M3 to arrive this morning, I find this news….interesting.

"Can't Yet Be Updated to macOS Sonoma Over the Air"? I don't think the author meant to imply that it can be updated if you connect it to Ethernet. Looks like it can't be updated to Sonoma at all right now.

OTA refers to upgrades over wireless to embedded systems, not to upgrading a laptop computer. "Over the Air" should have been omitted from this article's title.

I doubt it’s a “problem”.

Most software will run fine on Ventura… and I’m sure an update is coming soon.

I guess there is a reason for it.

First world problem indeed!!

Right? So why wasn’t it announced and launched in October…?
They release something early and people complain if there is a problem, they release it later having prepared to make fixes or whatever… and people complain.

I’m sure Sonoma will be running on this device soon. Stop worrying so much.

This is really bizarre. One of the latest MacBooks ship with an older family of operating system? I don't get how this is acceptable. Can the shipment of such MacBooks not be delayed until a Sonoma version works with them?

This is what happens when you put secrecy first and insist on releasing everything at the same time. Apple has gone from, “We make all of the product to provide unparalleled integration” to “how can you expect one team to be aware what the other team is doing?”

They were produced and boxed before Sonoma was released. Or do you think production starts on the day of announcement.

What in the wide world of sports is this about?
Probably testing the waters. Finding new ways to make new revenue. Cheaper machines will not come preinstalled with latest version. If you want to: pay an additional $50.

OMG! For Pentium's sake, chill out people...
I haven't deeply experienced Sonoma since my machine is not supported by it. But, isn't some of the UI in Sonoma significantly different from Ventura? If so, it's not a great thing that some of the latest Macs are shipped with Ventura.

It wouldn't be a big issue if say, hypothetically, the latest OS is Saturn 11.5, but for the interim, the latest Macs are shipped with Saturn 11.2.5 until 11.6 comes out because the features, design, and UI are not different.

But when the UI and features are significantly different, then it really becomes confusing for an everyday user to have their machine go from Ventura one day and then a few weeks later indicate update to Sonoma.

For an experienced Mac user, this wouldn't be a big deal though it could be an annoyance.

Feature - not bug!
Oh, the excitement of upgrade-to-a-new-major-OS-version-day - why deny the M3 customers that thrill?
Its included (actually excluded) in the price. You know how much time and energy it uses to install an OS? There is a reason these M3 machines are cheaper.

It was manufactured before Sonoma was released 😂

There will be a point in manufacturing where new devices will ship with the latest OS. They probably decide that based on software stability and functionality on the device. Maybe it was easier to shop a custom version of Ventura instead of a custom version of unreleased or just released Sonoma. It in no way damages this product. I’m sure an update is coming soon.

First world problem indeed

Is this one of the things they’re shipping by boat now? Because that’s the only thing that makes any sense at all. And that still doesn’t explain why it’s not able to update, unless there’s just some weird CDN delays.
Probably testing the waters adding additional revenue in future configurators. Latest OS? Sure add an additional $50.

They are experimenting and overhauling the configurator for future Macbooks.

It runs, just need to download update pkg manually.
For most users this is irrelevant. Most users of this device can use it for their workflow and then just wait for the update as per normal update route. And then continue using it as normal once updated.
