I need my mini to turn off after , apart from giving my mini a rest I have an external data ssd, a Time Machine (spinning) Backup Drive and a Monitor Attached.

There’s no peripherals running off the ATV so why would they complain?I don’t think anyone complained so much about Apple TV not having a power button at all. And yes, they have the same idle power consumption 🥸
What’s your backup strategy though? Do you do Arc or Backblaze for offsite?I need to my mini to turn off after I’ve used it, apart from giving my mini a rest I have an external data ssd, a Time Machine (spinning) Backup Drive and a Monitor Attached.
Apples and potatoes as the saying goes. A set top box has no need of one, a personal computer does.I don’t think anyone complained so much about Apple TV not having a power button at all. And yes, they have the same idle power consumption 🥸
Not really sure how the peripherals affect the fact that you keep the Mac in sleep mode or you turn it completely off. There’s no peripherals running off the ATV so why would they complain?
For me, it isn't about the mythical daily reboot. I do shutdown at night however due to sleep issues with external devices. My current mini doesn't play well with many of them. There is no need to turn off a machine like the Mac mini every day. The amount of power it uses to boot back up likely greatly overshadows the amount of power it consumes idling all night.
According to the Apple stans yes and you’re horrible for even suggesting this. But really- it was a corner they cut so as to not spend a bunch of money on cutting another hole and assembling the internals in some sensible fashion. It would be trivial but cost probably 4$ more per mini. Accounting for Apple funny money that’s a 200$ cost passed on to the customer. For me, it isn't about the mythical daily reboot. When sleeping it, it causes issues with external drives, which I have many of. And many other reasons.
I just find it really, well stupid that they'd even think of doing that unless it's very clearly reachable underneath, which it definitely does not look to be. Just no reasoning. Is a button that's visible but looks fine really that horrible?
You are right, a power button on a computer might be more needed than on an Apple TV. In fact there is one: it’s probably just that Apple has data that a Mac mini is turned off nearly as much as you would turn off your Apple TV, so they placed it accordingly.Apples and potatoes as the saying goes. Let’s not fool ourselves it was a cost savings measure they could’ve put an aluminium button on the side or backYou are right, a power button on a computer might be more needed than on an Apple TV. Just time machine for my images and videos, and iCloud for my documents. What’s your backup strategy though? Do you do Arc or Backblaze for offsite?
It’s the Internet so people will find reasons to be outraged. Just like now they can’t complain about the base configuration 8 GB of RAM so it’s the storage they’re outraged about. Can't believe people are freaking out over this. Virtually nobody pushes the power button routinely on these and if they do, they shouldn't. There's no need to power down a Mac mini. Sleep mode uses almost no energy.

Sure but people have their ways and who are any of us to say “that’s wrong” ? I just see this as a slight lack of imagination on Apple’s part that an entrepid Etsy entrepreneur can 3D print and fix. All you need is a couple magnets really.
I can imagine the huge savings… It’s probably because in this way they will keep selling more Mac Studios with the claim “and the power button in premium aluminum is conveniently placed on the back”Let’s not fool ourselves it was a cost savings measure they could’ve put an aluminium button on the side or back
Oh buddy, please do some offsite. I’d hate for you to lose precious memories or something. I’m being serious here, Time Machine is no backup. Check the 3-2-1 backup method out. Please don’t rely exclusively on Time Machine it will let you down.Just time machine for my images and videos, and iCloud for my documents.
Yes you are correct, I do also backup my images to Amazon Photos, my vids are on YouTube.Oh buddy, please do some offsite. I’d hate for you to lose precious memories or something. Nope, that does not fix the issues. I've tried that and just about anything else you can think of.Turn off "Put hard disks to sleep whenever possible" in System Settings.
Better yet, disable sleep altogether. Computers have always had issues with it. Your Mac mini will sip power at idle without sleeping. I promise.
Maybe you think I’m silly for fretting but I’ve had to deal with people after they lost cherished memories. It pains me every time. Glad you’re coveredYes you are correct, I do also backup my images to Amazon Photos, my vids are on YouTube.
This has to be some of the worst advice I’ve read online today and the internet is a big, dark place. Do NOT do this it WILL increase wear and tear on drives and shorten their lifespan unless you’re running enterprise NAS drives like ironwolf or redsTurn off "Put hard disks to sleep whenever possible" in System Settings.
