With the current political situation, a bird in hand is worth two in the bush. We ordered our two M4 Max Mac Book Pros (a 14" and a 16") when released in mid November 2024 with the specs we wanted with my military discount. This was long before the tariffs were imposed.

Ordering today I do not know what Apple would do if the winds change and tariffs suddenly apply to Apple's products.

The loaded M3 Ultra Studio is $14,099 list now. A 25% tariff is $3,524.75 which could raise the selling price to $17,623.75 depending on implementation.

Any hints if Apple is focused on the neural/AI engines any more? While still overhyped I can see more and more AI use cases coming, and if I'm doing a major laptop upgrade (usually every 7-8yrs) I'd ideally like to time it to when there are bigger changes to the cpu. I've timed this pretty well so far:

- 2011 with sandy bridge
- 2021 with M1 Max
- Now I'm mostly watching for wi-fi 7 but also to see a reasonable ST uptick (15%+) but esp if there are any neural/etc coprocessors if local LLMs become super common with OS's

Since the 27" iMac Pro was around $5k optioned out, one should not expect a larger screen to be cheaper with better specs. The M1 Ultra Mac Studio maxed out was about $7,500 and the New M3 Ultra Mac Studio can max out just over $14,000.

Will be interesting to read real world performance numbers that might show twice the performance for twice the price......

The M3 to M4 was a 110% increase in the power of the NPE. They seem to feel it's important.

It sure does feel like inventory of M4 products is being pared now as WWDC approaches.
