M6 iMac Coming This Year in New Colors

It has now been 665 days since the iMac M4 was released and I need to buy a new iMac for a family member. I really don't want to buy a near two year old computer at this point as there are no good discounts or deals.

The MacBook Air recently increased the SSD to 512 and the current iMac is 256. I don't want to pay full price for 256SSD when it is likely the soon to be released iMac will have 512 as standard.

Any other new tech-specs coming to the iMac?

"External" purpose meaning what? The chin is where the actual computer is—you could design a cleaner-looking machine without the chin, but it'd need to be much thicker. It's very much serving a purpose (versus the Apple logo, which is ornamental and I'd wager generally irrelevant for most users.) I don't think that's the wrong choice, but it's definitely one that's been made intentionally.

Meaning that - from the outside - it's performing a function (i.e. providing an area for the logo). The previous generation of iMac managed to perfectly hide much of the electronics and PSU behind the screen and it looked great.

24-inch (as the only/biggest screen option) is simply insulting.

I held on to my 27" iMac until the SSD started failing. Upgraded the 5K screen to a 32" 6K Asus screen with a Mac mini. Only problem is that Tahoe does not offer a great selection of screen resolutions in the larger size, and adjusting the different types of screen font is fiddly.

True, but again, why not include the Apple logo? It makes it look like an OEM product (from the front).

Yes, I have no idea why they removed the logo. It seems a pretty arbitrary decision.

Maybe for the sake of consistency with Macbooks. Apple laptops don't have an Apple logo on the front

Honestly the old iMacs with the logo on the front look last gen. Not saying that the newest iMacs are dramatically better on that specific front, but people need to get over the old iMac design. It’s old. The Studio Display has no logo in the front either.

My current silicon iMac (I have had M1 and M3) is my first Apple desktop and I love it. Great for documents, chrome, codex, etc. I do all of my video calls on it. Charge my watches through it. Four ports. All I need.
