Wake me up when this gets a 27 inch display
I get Apple know their market but still 24” only seems odd. Definitely not for me, got my first 27” in 2011 and have only gone up in size since. I think if they stick to this sizing, and the crazy pricing, it’ll be a dying line. Maybe that’s the goal?
Looking at the broader monitor market though, 24” sales have been shrinking and 27”+ is growing, with some markets having the latter already holding a larger share in number. Only the sub 18” market is growing faster than 27”+ sizes.

i need one with 32" OLED. who the hell uses a 24" screen lmao. I have a 32" OLED monitor and it's glorious. Going to an iMac would be a huge downgrade. If anything ever happens to my PC i'll just get a Mac Mini since obviously apple doesn't want to release a iMac with modern specs.

Yeah plus you could upgrade the ram yourself on the old 27”. I saved a fortune doing that myself versus buying off Apple. Then again that’s probably the reason they got rid of it!
Amazing how Apple can keep developing new colours. So far ahead of the competition in shininess, even if the technological advances and innovation dried up years ago.
My parents still use an iMac 2015 with quad-core i5, 8GB of RAM and a 1TB Sata SSD. It runs Windows 11 now. It's not the fastest, but more than fast enough. Apple makes it almost impossible to convince them to purchase a new machine if the new one gets less storage, less ports, etc.
The new iMac might make sense to a lot of people but I don't think it's the easy budget option it used to be.

27 inch is what I personally prefer to use but the iMac is more of a family computer in my opinion. In a living room, a smaller monitor actually fits better.
There are objective benefits to the Ram implementation of Apple Silicon, but I'm sure they don't mind making some extra profit.

Recognition value. If it didn't have a chin, it would be indistinguishable from a monitor.
The super-thin form factor is very pretty, but I'm not a fan of having the PSU as an external brick. The Studio Displays are slightly thicker, but they manage to keep the PSU internal.

Every single time a new iMac release is rumoured, there is an overwhelming customer calling for 27" +, which I fully want too!
I hope Apple listens.
I wonder how financially beneficial it is for Apple to sell a Mac Mini and have users buy a cheap 27" from Amazon vs just release the godam 27" iMac! I just don't know any other reason why they wouldn't release it unless they are protecting the sales of their expensive own Apple Studio Display.

Before then microLED will be available and it's better than OLED. Same blacks, but no burn-in, longer lifespan, and gets brighter too.

"External" purpose meaning what? The chin is where the actual computer is—you could design a cleaner-looking machine without the chin, but it'd need to be much thicker. It's very much serving a purpose (versus the Apple logo, which is ornamental and I'd wager generally irrelevant for most users.) I don't think that's the wrong choice, but it's definitely one that's been made intentionally.
Picked up an M1 16 GB iMac for about $450 used, I’m not gonna tell you my sources smiley face nice little machine. The sound is good and the screen is fine. Obviously the elephant in the room is the 27 inch iMac. I have three or four these guys lying around that will now become somewhat usless not being supported especially the 2017 ones that are ready are not supported, and I don’t want to bugger around with open core patch, etc. I do have a project to convert one to a display which I need to move my arse on!
Apple is readying new iMac models with an upgraded chip and new color options, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.
Writing in his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman says the new version is likely to be an updated 24-inch model with an M6 chip, replacing the existing M4 model that arrived in October 2024.
New colors are also said to be on the menu, though Gurman does not say what they are. The current iMac comes in seven colors, including green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver.
Otherwise, no major design changes are expected. Apple is reportedly developing a 24-inch iMac with an OLED display, but this won't arrive for several years.
"All signs point to the M6 models being close to launch," says Gurman, with the new models expected to arrive before the end of the year.

And I don’t care what anyone says about going the Mac mini/ 5k monitor route, finding a decent 5K monitor is a pain in the arse, and there may be some good candidates now as of August 2026 but it really its nice to have an all-in-one machine hint, 27 inch iMac 5K, having used multiple 4K sub $500 monitors with my M4 mini every time I would use the old 5K iMac I just wanna throw up.

It's worse, in that Apple does sell an equivalent product (display + Mac mini or Studio.) Sure, it doesn't have the niceness of the AIO and it can cost much more, but at least the niche is still addressed in some way, while us small phone people are SOL 😀

I love me - I think there should be a 27 inch version, but I want a fully integrated monitor/webcam option, and the Studio Diplay + Mac Mini option is a bit clunky and expensive to me. Other monitors don’t really cut it (no interest in anything over 27 inches). iMac it is

True, but again, why not include the Apple logo? It makes it look like an OEM product (from the front).
