Not entirely true. While iLife apps show as being installed. Aperture and my iWork apps do not. Must be a bug. But I'm also on record saying this is the beginning of the end of open computing as we know it. So maybe Apple hates me.

Although I did notice that a $25 itunes gift card I got for Christmas shows up in the Mac App Store. So you must be able to use it for this store as well as iTunes.

Very interesting about the multiple computer possibilities. I control two labs of Macs, and if I could find some way to block student access to the store (and that wouldn't break updates) maybe I could finally get iWork on them for one low price.

It's called an iTunes password.

Yeah, it doesn't see that I already have Omnifocus installed.

On another note, how the heck does one uninstall an app from the App Store? There's no way to do it through the App Store and OS X won't allow me to drag the app to the trash!

Do you have the latest iWork updates installed (released yesterday)? If not, it wont be recognised.

It sees that I have iFlicks already installed (which is a third-party app). It doesn't see iWork or iLife however. But they are older versions which is probably why.

So when an app is listed as "installed" does that mean that you can go to another Mac you control and just obtain it from the App Store? Does it somehow link that App with the Apple ID?

As with many others, TextWrangler was not recognized by the App Store, nor was PCalc. I updated both before checking just to see if it required a newer version. I asked the author of PCalc.

I will continue going through my apps to see what else is "detected" or not. I have Delicious Library 2 on one of my Macs and also have Mariner Paperless

Curse thee, Apple! I already had enough to do with the iTunes, iPhone, and iPad stores. The Mac App Store will be added to my list of todos: check for new things, check for great sales, and check for version updates.

It's as if Apple has no consideration for their customers' free time.

/sarcasm

Make sure that you're up to date. It's recognizing everything on my MacBook Pro that is available in the App Store.

I've updated all of my apps, but some 3rd party apps show as "Installed", others do not. For instance, Things shows as "installed". Omnigraffle Pro and Delicious Library 2 do not. Confusing.

Let's say I have purchased 100 apps from the Mac App store. Then I want to do a fresh install of my OS. Can I re-download them from the App store for free? Can I see a list of what items I've purchased?
If you go into Purchases, it shows you what you've purchased, what's currently installed on your Mac, and gives you an Install button if you've purchased something that's not currently on your Mac.

I have an important question...
I have other 3rd party apps which i bought such as OmniGraphSketcher, but on the Mac App Store it doesn't say that it is Installed. I'm hoping this bug gets fixed, however.. If i want to re-download OmniGraphSketcher from the Mac App Store, do I have to pay for it again even though the first time i bought it was from the Omnigroup website?
Moreover, i'm not able to give ratings to Apps which i didn't buy from the Mac App Store, so do i have to re-buy them?
I don't want to buy apps twice, that'd be a rip off.

App detection works for some 3rd party apps as well!

Not really:
Developer Update: seems it’s all about the bundle ID. We used the same one for the Mac App Store build that we use from our own direct download build. So the Mac App Store thinks the app is installed, even if it’s a trial downloaded from our website. In some ways, actually, this is good for the customer — it prevents accidental or mistaken unnecessary re-purchases! But, it means you have to drag to trash if you want to purchase from the MAS. (I think Apple should use the bundle ID in conjunction with Apple ID purchase history to decide if the button should say “Buy” or not. And maybe if the Bundle ID matches but no purchase in their history, there’s a “Are you sure you need this?” dialog for safety.)

I had no problem dragging apps to the trash. Maybe they're still running?

Tell me about it. Painfully, last week I paid $179 for the retail version of Aperture, only to find there was no way to ever get my initial 90 days of support. :(

i bought mine full price on the first day. activated the beta, since it was the fastest way, … but didn't find a way to get some of the benefits the DVD version brings. the demo content for example, …
anyway aperture is worth the purchase when taking more than average photos.
