Can't wait to see how this works out.

Yeah!
The sheer excitement of a more efficient means of getting the hipster drones to fill Apple's pockets with even more money!!

I assume they will take their percentage for every licence sold - whilst being the moral arbiter of what we can and cannot download!

Can't wait for doodle jump. But my iMac is pretty big right enough. !!!

??

Apple should start download of the Mac Apps Store (or 10.6.6 if it's in there) right now..... Or else they will overwhelm their servers with all the downloads for it AND the apps...

Even if it's just Mac Apps (meaning not as a many downloads as with iOS apps) and with a new data farm -or whatever it's called- I don't think it's prudent.

No more Pirating/sharing apple software.

Uh ? How is the Mac Store going to stop piracy ? The Mac isn't a locked down platform that requires all its apps be installed through the App Store, and even if it were, seeing how iOS has piracy on it, what makes you think it would even begin to stop it ?

The limit of 5 authorized computers?

I'm a bit excited now. Can't wait to see what apps are in the store already. Hopefully some nice apps there already.

And you thing other ways of distribution come for free ?????

Big companies have maybe the infrastructure - but not the small indie developer.

Installing Mac apps has always been easy. It's uninstalling that's a pain. I started using AppCleaner to make sure that all the program files are deleted along with the executable.

All this is automated in many instances.

What iOS piracy are u talking about? FairPlay has not been broken yet?

I hope app developers continue to release "stand-alone" versions of Apps in addition to using the app store.

Reason: lab and corporate environments.

In a lab environment you might have 50 machines, all using the same OS install image and logged into by different users. In order to install the same software on all of them, there can't be any DRM that ties an installation to a specific serial number.

As neat as it would be to see something like Adium in the app store, this will break installing it on large numbers of computers.

Yes it has.

Jailbroken phones can install App Store apps free of charge, after downloading them from elsewhere on the Internet. It's no big secret that there is piracy on iOS, piracy of App Store games/apps.

App Stores, even curated ones, don't prevent piracy at all.
