Please show us some examples of where "Apple IOS" means more options and features.

(Obviously, meaning more options and features than "Apple OSX"...)
I'm sorry, I didnt realize that they were actually taking tons of features out of Lion to make it more like iOS, silly me.

It is so incredibly refreshing to read your highly intelligent, well thought out take on this topic. I agree with every single point you've made.

Thank you, I really appreciate your feedback.

This is so true. Many have no interest in educating themselves and are basically lazy. Apple knows this and exploits their ignorance. I also agree that it will be wildly successful for three primary reasons. It's easy, it's fashionable, and as such it's the tech gear to be seen with. Many are just as as vain as Jobs himself. These shiny toys are made just for them.

So true. Unfortunately this "laziness" doesn't only apply to electronics, computers and software. Be it our nutrition, our news, our health care (which is a pretty bad mess, pretty much in every country), etc... people should ask more questions and raise legitimate concerns when they find some. After all that can only lead to better products and services for all of us.

Yes, a ****ing app store will bring THE END OF THE WORLD few steps closer. You have no idea how ridiculous this sounds.

You do realize that I was not talking about the AppStore in my last paragraph? You have no idea how ridiculous it is to post before you read – and comprehend – something.

Last paragraph, the one before or whatver ... your condition is pretty obvious, master of comprehension.

Apple gets to skim 30% off the top of developers' hard work, so the Apple fanbois are all drooling with excitement. ;)

Are you a developer? I doubt it.

The app store:
- doesn't make you pay for credit card processing, and you don't have to deal with chargebacks
- doesn't take closer to 50% that retail does
- puts more eyes on your product, eyes belonging to people that you couldn't even reach before without spending huge amounts of money on marketing
- lets you handle upgrades easily

I could think of some more advantages too.

Most developers are welcoming this. Just read the blog over at OmniGroup, one of the few successful Mac-only development companies. They're welcoming the app store for the simple reason it gets their products shown to more people.

So don't mask your trolling in the name of "the developers' hard work." We aren't buying it.

Oh, and you fancy yourself to have the perfect amount of Mac knowledge? There are Mac users out there who have more knowledge about the Mac than you, and less. But somehow you believe that anyone who has less knowledge than you is just lazy.

Well, what about those with more knowledge than you? I guess that makes you lazy. Anyone but the most knowledgeable Mac expert in the world must be basically lazy.

What a ridiculously arrogant statement. It's the kind of statement DOS users used to tell Mac users. They felt that because they figured out how to do something the hard way, that they must increase the relative value of that knowledge by belittling those who used a GUI.

You are doing the same. If you perform one single task that is maintaining your computer rather than using the computer to get work done, then it has room for improvement.

Making an OS easier is not a bad thing. Somewhere along the line here, the tinfoil hat wearing mistook the message "we are making the UI more transparent so you can get work done instead of dealing with the computer itself" for "we're going to lock down the computer so you can't use it for the tasks that you bought it for."

Too many iUsers here and not enough Macintosh users I think.

Hmm... Windows users used to call Mac users iUsers.

I think you forgot why you use a Mac in the first place. Personally, I use Macs because they let me be productive and get my work done. I don't see an opt-in Mac app store changing that.

I find your assumptions downright hilarious.

I'm with you 300%...
Everybody who wants Mac OS to have an actual future should do the same....

I never said that it was a conspiracy...
But those of us who are part of the mac scene for many years,
know that Jobs, always works with a plan...
If you think, that the release of this Mac App Store is just a random move
that it's sole purpose is to make our lives easier then you're at least naive...
Don't you forget, that Apple already has rejected apps (like Ambrosia's WireTap).
And they also stated that they won't approve apps that use Private APIs!!!
Seriously????
Even "Things" uses private APIs!
Now imagine a OS, like the iOS, that will allow you to install only what is available through the Mac App Store.
You can call me crazy if you like....
But history has taught us that Steve is a control freak...
I mean, we don't have flash on our iOS devices, because Steve has a grudge with Adobe...
And yes, maybe flash will drain my battery, crash my iPhone and smack me in the head every 5 minutes and it's really really bad for me.
What do you care?? If i want to have it, give me the option to install it...
It's my phone after all, i paid it with my hard working earned money....

Until I see this from more than 1 unreliable and largely untrustworthy source, I'll still hold out hope that the MAS release is still the 13th.

Can't wait to buy only the iLife & iWork apps I actually WANT to upgrade, as well as no longer having to resort to using PayPal, eSellerate, et al. just to buy Mac software i want to buy and spend real money for in any event.
