An Outlook like app that integrates Mail, Address Book and iCal that is fully compatible with Exchange would make Macs viable for a lot of companies.

Wouldn't that be Outlook?

Man....I love mac a lot but I just get this feeling every time that when its popularity heightens, it is that much closer for a virus to come and make it windows.

200% shot increase for the govt? Virus in the making...?

Yup, the reason there is no viruses on OS X is because of market share. yup.

Just how impressive that 200% jump is depends on how many Macs government bought in the previous period. If it was 1,000, tripling that isn't too impressive.

Yup, the reason there is no viruses on OS X is because of market share. yup.

What most people here erroneously call viruses are actually malware/spyware written for nefarious financial/espionage purposes. If I was employing a bunch of dodgy Russian programmers or was running the Chinese cyber warefare department I would not be bothering with OS X right now. It would be a terrible waste of resources for the tiny gain it would bring.

If Government departs and large Enterprises really start to push out OS X you can guarantee that the above groups will be all over it like a Fly on **** and we will really see if Apple's security claims are worth the paper they are written on.

I saw a computer lab filled with Macs in my school, but they all had Windows XP installed in them. That was weird. On another lab it did have OSX, but it's funny that one of the labs had XP installed. The rest of the labs have Windows.

Looks like government figured out that Macs are better for the security conscious user.

I don't know why business rely on Windows. We're so concerned about security, data protection etc, yet we rely on Windows. Getting out of the Windows environment is probably the best security choice a business/government can make. I run Zero anti-Virus and Malware protection across 15 Macs and have also had zero virus/malware problems. The Windows machines don't have that track record and they do run AV programs.

Hopefully this is a sign of change.

I've been running Windows PCs for 7 years without any anti Viruses and I still haven't gotten one. It's all about common sense.

Believe if or not Apples fans, for a hacker a Windows PC is still harder to crack. Security is just a bigger issue for Microsoft, the budget is bigger, and from what I've heard Apple takes its time to patch things. I even read about these school kids hacking into their teacher's Mac in like 15 minutes. So I highly doubt that the government would move to Mac because of security.

Worthless info

These charts are worthless without some actual numbers to go along with them. Apple could sell 1 computer to businesses last month and 3 this month and that would be a 200% increase.

I hope Mac OS X doesn't die. It is really a better alternative to Windows. If Apple doesn't want to invest more into the Mac, they should sell it to Microsoft to focus on iOS and Snow Leopard could be Windows 8 from Microsoft.

So sales of Macs and MacOS X are increasing by 30 to 40 percent every year, the company makes billions over billions in profits every year from MacOS X and related sales, and you worry that Mac OS X will die? What world are you living in?

Education Budgets

..primary and secondary education budgets are rock bottom and the way most kids treat the "kit" means that the quality (longevity) v price issue is not not really that relevant. Kids will just wreck the kit if isn't their own. So they go for the cheapest option PCs and windows. :(
Office 2011 might help this a little, but not while most ICT managers have one eye on budgets and the other fixed on the only tools they really understand....MS ( The fact that XP was loaded onto Macs proves my point..only a Windows ICT manager would do this.)

When it comes to personal kit, there's a different. There quality and functionality count and lets face it, you look after anything you pay for yourself, even a PC.

Dudes & Dudettes - Myth Debunked

Yup, the reason there is no viruses on OS X is because of market share. yup.

here one of many links to debunk the market share / virus BS PC/MAC BS... A simple search on google and you can find the rest but this is a good one -

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT

does anyone every do any research to backup there opinions? oh yeah - google ocean discovered lost city atlantis. and S.H.I.T. - that means ship high in transit- And Lady GaGa is no lady-

NOT

-well maybe the last one

As an Apple stockholder this does make me happy.

As an IT person though, I don't see any Apple products in our environment in the next 5+ years. Nothing beats Active Directory + Exchange as far as ease of management. Not to mention our contract with Dell means I get the same computing power for nearly half the price as Apple (I've compared). We have no positions that do graphic design or publishing so I can't justify Apple products to be purchased.

We have a strict no-Apple policy (except iPhones are allowed), but we often get requests for Apple products. I've had to turn down a few iPad requests since the managers can't really justify a reason to purchase them beyond they just want a new toy to play with.

It's pretty easy to double Mac sales when you sold 1000 last year and sold 2000 this year. :) Compare that to PCs (all vendors) where millions (if not billions) exist.

I'm not hating...I'm just saying...

But it is nice to see Macs hopefully becoming more commonplace.

I couldn't read the whole thing, read a little more than half, but lost interest since this one guy seems like an Apple fan boy who lacks objectivity. I mean, I can't take a guy's opinion seriously when he's calling the competition names. "Microsoft dumb decision..." From what I read he gave no technical example, just his un objective logic.

Looks like great news, especially in the current economy. Especially in the government and corporate segments as these aren't really what Apple specialize in.

This is not good news for taxpayers considering Government at the Federal and State levels are broke. It's good news for Apple but bad for the taxpayers. Private business buying Apple products is good for everyone.

Wow... just so, wow.

None of the faults alluded to are happening...
None of these suggestions would (or should) happen...

They're living in the world where they don't want to deal with the realities of a mature OS. If they don't get "new, shiny" every 18 months, death must be looming.

Apple has expanded into new markets, but this idea that OS X is going to die would be almost as ridiculous as people thinking Windows was going to die because Microsoft created the Xbox. "They're going to kill Windows! The writing is on the wall! They're going into the gaming business!"

About the only thing I'd like to see is a modern filesystem. For all the complaining I constantly hear about SL, as a developer it's awesome and I think 10.7 is going to be about bringing the development tools offered in 10.6 to fruition. 10.7 is likely to be the culmination of everything that's been introduced in 10.5 and 10.6.

until apple fixes their support policies, they aren't going to kill windows in the enterprise market

this is good, I've noticed over the last few years when i tell people i use a mac a lot say they do to, instead of looking at me funny.
