Sincerely Im doing my transition right now, my gpu on my last pc gave its last breath, so I wanted something with thunderbolt...

the problem is, the sony Z is not launched yet, and the thunderbolt in there aint thunderbolt.... So the only option was the mbp

Do whatever you want its your money, people are always going to come up with some clever or not so clever remarks about anything you buy, I bet you do the same. Just suck it up and deal with it

Now just imagine that I do computer science in college... I will have to endure endless amounts of jokes because of it, mainly stating my sexual preference

I absolutely hate this argument. Sure a $2000 mac will still be worth $1200 in a year or two, but a comparable PC will cost $1000, and if it's worth $300 in a year or two, you've still managed to come out ahead with the PC (lost $800 on the mac vs $700 with the PC)

/End rant

I'm going to be the 3rd choice, option c. I happen to like macs, but Windows 7 is truly "good enough" that I can't imagine spending 2x as much for a mac.

Of course I'm that guy who would buy a ford over a BMW since they both get me from point A to point B just as well, I guess my lifestyle choices extend to my computer purchases as well ;)

OP: Hater's gonna hate. There's no much you can do about it. Generally the arguments are valid, too. You just need to decide if the arguments against buying a mac outweigh the benifits of a mac. For some people, they don't, for others, they do.

Howerver, it sounds like you want one. Go buy it, and if you really hate it, return it. I believe best buy doesn't have restocking fees for laptops anymore, and I'm sure the Apple Store is the same if you ask nicely.

Mac aren't twice as expensive. Maybe around 1.5X

You should answer: "Don't be jealous, I'll eventually let you use it once or twice."

If they've made up their minds, no argument you make is ever going to convince these people that your opinion has validity. Do what you think is best for yourself. I get crap all the time for owning a Mac. My response? Call them poor and walk away (even if I know they're loaded).

Get new friends. People who "love" or "hate" a computer aren't worth talking to.

They're tools. They enable you to do stuff. No more, no less

Just laugh at them when:
they get a virus
have to update at least once a week
BSOD
search for drivers
etc., etc., etc.

1. You definitely kidding me.

2. Which is good?
This is like how nVidia fanboy argue about ATi driver update. Exactly the same thing.

3. There is GSOD for Mac.

4. Windows auto install driver most of the time, if not at least you can find drivers, unlike mac itself just not supported most of the time.

etc etc etc..

I am sick of haters on each side.

To be honest, Mac is a overprice computer, while PC on the other hand it really depends on which one you choose. Someone mention about that Elitebook, which is a crappy comparison. A similar one would be DV6T or Envy for HP.

Mac itself is not bad, but not perfect, it just like a simplify, noob friendly version of Ubuntu in my opinion. It really depends on user preference. If they think the price worth it, then it is.

For myself, I have a High end MBP 15" 2011 model, I personally don't think it worth its price with the lack of feature that I am looking for, such as Blu-Ray, eSATA, USB3, and temperature issue.

Probably gonna get flame over my post, since this is mac forum, but my point still stand.

There is really no point to hate either one. It's all about user preference. Don't act like a kid who argue how PS3 is better than 360.

Buy what you like

Just go ahead an buy it if you like it. Dont worry about what other people say. In most cases, you get what you pay for. So if you spend more, youre probably getting a better product. Is it so bad to own both PCs and Macs?

It shouldn't matter what they say. Just buy it and be happy. In a few years when it's still running like new, you'll be the one cracking jokes.

To the OP; why care? Buy what you want. It is your money.

Just laugh at them when:
they get a virus
have to update at least once a week
BSOD
search for drivers
etc., etc., etc.

It is hard to get a virus on a Windows 7 machine. You have to be rather daft.

Weekly updates are not a bad thing, and they are likely right around the corner for OS X (see MacDefender).

BSOD? Almost always a case of failed or failing hardware (usually memory or a video card), and much easier to diagnose versus the GSOD.

"Searching" for drivers? Yes, if you buy some random imported device from Hong Kong, maybe. Quality manufacturers provide easy access to drivers. Getting updated drivers from Dell/HP/Lenovo/Fujitsu is a piece of cake.

None of those are really good examples.

Buy what you like or what your hobby or business demands.

Allow me to quote myself:

Need OS X? Buy a Mac.
Need the trackpad *regulary* (instead of a mouse)? Buy a Mac.
Need keyboard backlight? Buy a computer with keyboard backlight.
Need Windows in combination with the above? Buy a Mac.
Need Windows without the above? Buy a PC and get your lady something nice for the money saved.

1. hackintosh
2. track pad, no matter how advanced, can't beat a mouse
3. alienware
4. alienware packs windows
5. n/a

I have friends and family that are trying to talk me out of buying a Mac too but it doesn't bother me. They're just looking out for me because they truly believe I'm overpaying for something I can get for much cheaper and they may be right.

But that trackpad is worth it for me damnit! :D

Gonna miss the thinkpad keyboard though, typing on that is heaven :(

The MacBook Pro keyboard is a thing of equal beauty, my friend.

dont worry when u get older theyll understand me and my friends always use to bash macs but now the majority have it or want one, or plain simply dont care if we plan on buying one in the future:D

both are good. They do what they want. Your friends will not stop bashing you unless they use one. however if you want a mac users POV and why they like it best. the points usually are always the same.

Trackpad
-best trackpad imo on any laptop
MagSafe
Design
-thinness
-aesthetics
Ease of Use
-OS X is very easy to use

You don't buy a Mac for specs. You buy it because it is easy to use and very powerful.

I do like the quote from a couple posts ago: "Don't be jealous, I'll let you use it once or twice." :D

I am an ex windows fanboy, and word has spread around my work and friends that I'm switching to a Mac. Long story short im getting a lot of hate for doing so and my friends keep pounding me with jokes and fact on windows and tryingnto get me to not buy a Mac. Any arguments you can give me to counter their shenanigans? I need some stuff to back me up because I'm definitely not going back to a windows only computer. (bootcamp doesn't count)

Your friends need to get a life, nothing better to do than hate you for choosing mac, which you prefer.

part of the flack may be the result of your self-admitted windows fanboy history. ;) consequently, the best thing is to do is avoid swinging as far in the opposite direction. fanboys and girls are silly on both sides, so i'll echo a previous commenter's advice to simply smile and nod and take it in stride.

After reading this entire thread, I still don't see why anyone would care what anyone else thinks of their computer. Also, where do you find these loser friends that jabs people for their personal computing choices?

Seriously, buy whatever tool you need/want to use for work and then go out there and do amazing things with it. Forget which system is better on paper, which has a better resale value or anything else that don't matter. Get the machine that makes your life easier and saves you time - in the end, that's all that matters.

The small minded idiots will find something else to do next week when something else catches their attention. Life goes on.

Like others say, don't even entertain them. It sounds like what they are trying to engage you in, is the most visceral type of Mac Vs PC argument, and it will just be circular because it will never end.

So just ignore them and make your own mind up. Eventually it turns out to be much easier to just not engage people in such a debate unless they are sincerely willing to consider points and to look at macs particularly the OS for what it is, a multi-tool. There's no real definitive answer as to which is better anyway is what I've found.

I just got my first MBP, and it's the small details that only a company that controls their products can offer: backlit keyboard; full integration of their OS into their computers; support that is 2nd to none (so far, haven't tried it, but hopefully I never will).

Coming from the Windows world, I see that Windows is like American cars: a lot of choices for different people and styles, but they all use the same transmission licensed from one company. Then you have Apple (aka BMW). Sure, it's more expensive than their American counterparts, but they offer a higher quality product and can control their products with excellent service. If their transmission doesn't work, bring it into the service department and they'll fix it up. (I didn't say this analogy was good)

Or you can say "screw you. I have a Mac and you don't". :p
