I have 4 machines on Mojave, but on one of them (only), all my Gmail accounts are still f-ed up. This is in Mojave 10.14.6. They show as offline in Mail, I click to take them online, then it prompts me to authenticate in Safai, but the Google login page never opens in Safari (it will launch Safari if it's not open, but it doesn't direct to the login page). I deleted one account thinking I'd re-add it from scratch, but the same thing happens in System Prefs > Accounts as in Mail, prompt for Safari login that doesn't happen.

When this happened to me a few months ago, Apple support had me boot the device into safe mode, and then reboot. I was skeptical, but my broken Gmail accounts in the Mail app started working again after this process.

Aaaannnd… one month later and absolutely no change.

This thread started in March and referenced "last October," so, 2018.

But who cares if I totally don't have access to my calendar, boy I just hope I get some additional iOS integration into my desktop system tout suite! #smh

I have a fix! Use iCloud mail :)
Exactly what I did a couple of years ago I got sick of Google telling me that the were taking off my email account because of an infraction of the rules, or some such nonsense. They did it about 3 times in a 2 week period. Another person I know was going though the same thing. It's a pain to have to change email address on every thing on the Internet that you need it for, but I am so glad I got on iCloud instead. No more Google cr__ for me.

DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

BACKUP YOUR MACHINE

You are probably using a G SUITE account. I had all of my google G SUITE accounts fail to sync when i upgraded to mojave awhile back. Normal @gmail.com accounts worked fine.

1) You need to delete the failing G Suite accounts from Apple Mail. (This should not affect your web email - remove the account - don't delete the emails). If you have any local email associated with that account, you need to have it backed up.
2) Then reboot.
3) Next add the accounts back to apple mail. DO NOT SELECT GOOGLE ACCOUNT. Select the "other email".
4) Use the settings outlined by Google here
https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7126229?visit_id=637036918911955260-1239518635&hl=en&rd=1
5) You will probably need to set your gmail account to allow less secure apps
https://devanswers.co/allow-less-secure-apps-access-gmail-account/
6) Leave your machine on so it can download all your mail. This can take 2-3 days if you have a lot of mail even on gigabit connection.

Good luck - mine has worked ever since.

Having just replaced an 11-year old iMac running El Cap with a new one that came with Mojave, I dutifully updated its virgin installation to 10.14.6, only to find a convoluted setup process, and intermittent difficulty with connecting to Gmail.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, requiring quitting and reopening of the app to make a successful connection.

Is this what it's come to? State of the art progress? I don't care who's fault it is, but it's a sad situation regardless.

Has anyone tried this - just worked for me:
Sign out of iCloud email and Account in prefs.
Turn on Mail, making sure your not signed in to your iCloud.
Go to Gmail Account in Mail and click that account/go online etc.
See if Authentication works.

As soon as I did this it and requires Authentication from Google/Gmail.
with being logged out of iCloud it seem to take me straight away to Password for Gmail and voila!

This really sucks. I am setting up a new (well, used) MacBook to send to my mom and wanted to pre-load everything into it. Now I have to tell her to just use Gmail over the web. Lame.

Have you tried what I did above?
I realize you wrote this to someone else, but I just wanted to say SOMEHOW this worked. I’m on a slightly older Mac and still on High Sierra because I still have 32 bit apps, and the 2019-006 security update broke Gmail connectivity for me. Somehow disabling the iCloud account fixed it, so thanks!

Has anyone paying attention to this thread tried migrating Apple Mail from OS High Sierra to the new OS Catalina? If so, is that less fraught with bugs than the HS -> Mojave migration?

Works! This has continued to bother me thru April 2020 on Mojave 10.14.6. I hope it is fixed if I upgrade to a different OS X landmark.
Hello, you replied to a year old thread. This issue should have been solved long time ago. I have two Gmail accounts and no issues. Something else may be off on your Mac.

Yep, I thought it noteworthy that the issue still crops up on Mojave Macs. A reboot is in order, how Windowsy of it.
I have upgraded 3 Macs and didn't find any issues with my two Gmail accounts. Some misconfiguration may have carried over during upgrade. Some antivirus software could cause issues too.
