I really hope they offer dual and quad core options for the mini and iMac to keep them competitive with other desktop class rivals.

Nvidia

this is what I want to see in the new mac products:

I could see apple using these due to reduced power requirements as well as better preformance per watt

What's the point to put a mini-DVI into a Mini? To make people switch from MB to Mini?

I'm sure Apple don't see it like that. The current line-up covers all bases - low budget, mid-range with little need for internal expansion (but excellent external expansion options of 2nd monitor, Firewire etc), or high end with good expansion.

Anyone that wants something that these don't provide must be a very small minority (but probably a very vocal minority - given how often people post about the xMac!).

Since the turn around that Apple made in the mid to late 90's they have deliberately kept their product line lean as it's the most cost effective way to run the business. Adding an 'xMac' would make the product line unnecessarily bloated and complicated.

The equation only works if you assume that the profit lost from Mac Pro buyers who end up spending less on an xMac is less than the profit gained by customers who are currently not being satisfied and substitute something else.

That probably used to be true, when the ranges were closer together, and when the Hackintosh option did not exist. I actually think it'd make more sense to do an i7 xMac, and ditch the Mac Pro altogether.

Are they by chance made of wood?

In what way do they differ from the current 24" iMac boxes?

Well they were a bit heavier, the boxes were brand new like it was packaged not to long ago, usually the boxes we get that are packaged with iMacs, the boxes look not so hot, I mean the feel of the boxes are kinda cheap. I remember when apple announced the new Macbooks, we had tons of them come through the air, and im sure that these new shipments that are coming in have to probably deal with a new product. It might come out tomorrow or they could be stocking up till March 24th who knows.

Which one is fake?

One of the two pictures of the "new mini" is fake. EVERYthing is the same (ports, logo placement, power button, etc.) except for one large thing, Vent numbers. There's 10 in the original image and video, but this latest "box" spyshot only has 9. Literally everything else is the same down to the smallest detail of logo placement, but the vent discrepancy is a major one.

Sorry if this was posted already but I don't have time to read all the comments right now.

One of them could be a prototype.

Im ready to pick myself up a new imac so this is good news. Since im a noob and not familiar with apple releases like this do they typically make them avail able at midnight? If so is that midnight EST in the US or PST?

Hard to say. With a spec-bump like this, it's often 8 or 9 AM, EST.

One of them could be a prototype.

That's the theory. That the one from the video very much was a prototype. I'm still unconvinced. Guess we'll know in 12 or 13 hours.

Why would a Mac Mini have a FireWire 800 port?

I'm really happy they didn't phase out FW on the mini. We need it for our "old" hard drives, audio interfaces, camcorders and for Target Disk Mode!. And FW800 is backwards compatible with FW400 with an adapter.

I think the box itself is a fake. Good eye tho.

The model numbers seem to line up with some of those in the first post of this thread. Chicken-egg? Or meaningful...?

I hear what you are saying, but currys is a pretty big store over here, who aren't particularly enamoured with apple. I don't think that they will be reading rumour sites and adding placeholders because of it.

Except there's no driver support for that in the leaked 10.5.7 release, good idea, but sadly not going to happen.

Nothing concrete just the apple remote on top.

Maybe it's the new Apple HiFi 2.0, now with 10.2 surround sound ear bursting speaker glory!

It's the 3rd Already

How Much Longer............. :p

Scared about the super observant poster regarding the vents on the Mini...

Surely not another false alarm.
