This sounds like crap. Are they going to be using the same CPU's in the iMac as the current ones? Wonder what kind of video chipset they'll be using.

I was hoping for something better than what's available now (Quad Core) as my first Mac purchase. :(

Hope they announce something about Mac Pro's soon too.

Exactly why apple pulled out of Macworld, they are expected to revolutionize the world with every update. Completely unrealistic.

You know, updates wouldn't have such high expectations if Apple didn't wait a year and a half between them.

Don't forget, this isn't just an update, this might end up being the model that is still for sale in late 2010.

Argh, not the bloody xMac, the xMac needs to be inbetween the iMac and Mac Pro, otherwise, what's the point in getting the iMac...

For people with a monitor already, there IS no point in getting the iMac, which is the whole reason people want an xMac.

I was just going to post that Gizmodo thing. Anyone willing to assume an AppleTV? (One with an LCD)

mystery-big-box.jpg

It's a test box...inside are: (1) new 24" iMac, (2) new Mac Mini, and (3) new 2TB Time Capsule.

I really wish they would update the mac mini to some decent specifications. I don't want to sound silly but not everyone in this tough time has money to burn, some of us don't have a lot of money right now.

I am a student and have used a G4 mac mini for many years. Now that it is coming to end of its life (the optical drive has failed and often the fans rev up and go into protective shutdown by itself) I am looking for a decent update.

I hope Apple's UK prices for the Mac Mini will be honest.

peace - macpanda.

Hey I didn't see you in my boat! Welcome on board!

:D

I'm the first putz to be in line for the new Mini if they'll have a decent price tag on it and the specs are good.

Also, I've got a Blu-Ray burner that actually fits into a MacBook Pro and MacMini, but I've not installed it yet. So I'm thinking if I can get new mini I'd just put it inside of it. Provided it actually HAS room or even a drive inside of it.

I got the Blu-Ray burner for £39!!!!!!!!! It works fine but the Discs aren't cheap so... it has to be for I don't know what. Maybe my HD films can be backed up (My own films, I'm a filmmaker so no they're not Blu-Ray). I can't play Blu-Ray on the drive, or rather I can but Apple says it doesn't speak Blu-Rayonise ... So... that pretty much makes it a bit useless in respects to watching films. But for that I have a PS3.

Anyone looking for a cheap Apple Mid Size monitor? I got one for sale, since I got my Samsung TV I'm not using my monitor and it's still got applecare and in it's original box.

I live in the UK. It's got no dead pixels and is like new. I didn't use it much because I was dumb and got my self a MacBook Pro WITH a screen and now a 32 inch Samsung LED TV.

So rather than collecting dust... I might as well sell it.

:)

Or just make the Mac mini bigger and better and the Mac Pro come in a cheaper configuration. Simple.

Bingo. There's a gaping hole in the product line. They can either reduce the differences between the yugo and the semi truck, or they can leave them and add a new model in the middle.

Not to dig up old news, but on the shot of the back of the packaging, the one with the shrinkwrap...I don't remember ever COMPUTERS having shrinkwrap? And definitely when the first Minis came out they didn't have shrinkwrap right? They just came with handles...

The iMac specs look like glacial changes to me - unless they also have a quad core chip in the mix.

I'm hoping that Apple releases a new version of Time Capsule with some upgrades (Firewire 800 port, mountable, bootable hard drive) and lower price.

Right now Apple charges $200 to bump up the hard drive from 500GB to 1TB. That's ridiculous, since you can buy a 1TB Hitachi drive for around $100 these days.

I've been wondering about that too, the 1TB has been out of stock for a few weeks at London's Regent St and also online at the UK Store. I bought one originally but returned it as the regular base station is a much faster router.

are they anything close in performance to the E8400/8500/8600 that's available for windows systems?
Clock speeds are overall a bit lower for the mobile CPUs, and mobile and desktop CPUs are fairly close in performance if they have the same clock speeds. The issue is that the E8400/E8500/E8600 are much cheaper than the mobile dual-cores.
