Also, does anyone remember that reporter that caught wind that at Macworld there would be a HUGE announcement no one saw coming, but then had to post an apology the next day because it wasnt announced. He assured us whatever it was was coming along soonish?

He supposedly is a good source, does anyone remember what I'm talking about?

I do...but I don't remember the name...hopefully he is right...but it seems odd that would happen without an event. Still we can hope!(for either tomorrow or 24th)

How can they release products without announcing in the event?

Since currently most source are pointing to spec updates, its just a matter of updating them online and shipping them out to stores(which Apple may have already started to do)

The did the same thing recently with the White Macbook secret update

I really want a 20" iMac, cuz I have a 20" Cinema Display. Right now it's hooked up to my 15" MBP. So, I hope they have a plethora of configurations for the entry level model.

Oh, I hope so, I hope so!!

My saved funds have been chilling in a bank account for a while now waiting for the new iMacs to come out...

Thats it!

I prefer to remain anonymous, but I predict 'huge' changes and releases by many companies. I'm afraid I can't tell you what they are or when they're happening (if I did and I was wrong, I'd apologise).

I'm sorry if its already been stated.

It would be interesting if the three desktop lines were updated over the next three Tuesdays. One line for each week, with the culminating event on the 24th.

Anyone remember in early 2008 when we had a small update every week for a few weeks?

That would just drive everyone on these sites crazy... lol

He promised elaboration after its announced, as in the story behind the delay and such.

I don't follow him, but his name is huge when it comes to apple leaks.

So much of this sounds odd though.

The sites are saying the high end iMac will only be 3.06 ghz. Hello:mad: It has been for a year!!! If they release a new iMac and it is no faster than it has been for a year it is going to SUCK BAD!!!! I'm sure it will have updated graphics, but it better have a updated processor. What company on earth ever came out with a new computer and said, "Nah, we'll save money and just use last years processor. Doesn't matter."

This info smells like a duck, walks like a duck so it must be a ...

Assuming these rumors are true....

I think the people complaining are fairly ignorant when it comes to Intel's current processors and roadmap.

If Apple wanted to go quad-core on the iMac, they have relatively few options, unless they were to go with a more exotic cooling technology.

Current Core i7 processors aren't realistic, as they give off too much heat and don't really fit the iMac philosophy. Nehalems suitable for the iMac form factor (assuming Apple sticks with its current cooling strategy) won't be available probably until Westmere hits in the fourth quarter or first quarter of next year, and even then they'll be dual core.

The low-power Core 2 Quads are fine, but in single-threaded and dual-threaded applications (i.e. what most iMac users will use) they will be beaten by higher-clocked dual core chips.

The current notebook Core 2 Quads are only 2.0Ghz and 2.26Ghz (with an expensive extreme model at 2.53Ghz) - again, it would be much slower, for most users, than a much higher-clocked dual core.

Blame Intel, blame the form factor, but this isn't really Apple's problem. Plus, what's wrong with a 3Ghz Core 2 Duo? I think there's a lot of specification obsession going on here. Unless you're using your iMac for heavy-duty video or rendering (not really its intended use), I don't see an issue.

Are we still on the mhz myth??....

The ghz race is over, chip makers realized its just not feasible to keep pushing further so instead we now have the core war.

I really hope this will turn out to be true. If it does, I'm getting a Mac Mini ASAP. My computers (both XP PCs) are really f'ed up

The Mac Mini has been due for an update for a painfully long time now.
Would have been nice with an HDMI-out though, but that's just too much of a bag of hurt for Mapple.

I figured that getting a silent, small formfactor Mac would suit my needs, combined with a decent Ubuntu netbook for Class.

ZOMG, that would induce a mass panic on this forum! ;)
