I would be happy if the Mac mini got minor tweaks and just got cheaper to be a good entry machine and a good 2nd/3rd/4th machine for the home.
I also wonder at the mini-hate. It is great looking computer that works just fine for many people. It fills the niche now that it did when it was introduced.
It would seem that they are relatively cheap to make and that the profit margins are likely pretty high.
Apple isn't bogged down with a million different computer designs, so it doesn't seem like there should be any mad rush to get rid of the mini.
The MacBook is portable, the Mini isn't. Most people will put up with more perceived deficiencies in a portable than in a desktop.Everybody seems to forget that the Mini and the MacBook are almost exactly the same machine (before the minor Santa Rosa upgrade they were exactly the same, now MacBook is only slightly faster). Yet, there are far less people who moan about the MacBook, even before the Santa Rosa update.

I dont think that a lot of the people that are complaining about the specs/price with current specs hate the mini, they [and I] just think it could be better.
Yea if I do not see the Mini being able to hand Pro Apps or a new Mini Tower im gonna have to bite the bullet and just buy a 20in iMac and deal with the ****** glossy screen.
Right, it's not hatred at all. I just think they need to keep up with the Joneses a bit more quickly OR get price cuts more quickly so they remain a good value.
Right now they are not a good value when you can get a refurbished MacBook with the same specs as a new Mini -- the MacBook, of course, that is easier to upgrade with RAM and hard drive -- for roughly the same price.

Tell my why my Mac Mini is not good enough to continue?![]()
Yes, I understand that 64 MB of system RAM instantly gets eaten up by the current 950. That hasn't even been an issue for me with the OEM 1GB RAM. I really like the Intel 950, very impressive!!
Here is a test for the Mac Mini.
Go to ABC TV, launch the Player, click on High Def shows, then run Desparate Housewives or Ugly Betty full screen to see if the sound and video will play without stuttering and report back to us.
Please list the Mini that you have: speed, memory, etc. I am sure it is the video card, because the requirements for HD TV is a dual processor, 128MB video RAM, 1GB RAM and a fast Internet connection.Yikes...so that doesnt seem to work out to well, just tried watching an episode of lost, and there were some problems in the first few minutes....is that due to the video card ?
i dont think anyone said the mini was perfect, but I still dig mine.
You might want to check on your internet connection. I just tried it on my 1.66Ghz mini and it ran perfectly in fullscreen mode. No choppy, no nuthin.
Click on "Launch the Player". Do not click on "Lost". Click on "Watch Now". Wait for it to display the options, then select "now watch episodes in ABC HD streaming. You will be given the choice of: Pushing Daisies, Private Practice, Dirty Sexy Money, Ugly Betty, Grey's Anatomy or Desparate Housewives to watch in High Def.well, I clicked on HD showcase, lost did come up as an option. In any case, I am halfway through an HD episode of Greys Anatomy, no problems at all, went back to lost and the problems were gone also. My specs are:
MacMini 2.1
Intel Core Duo
2 GHz
L2 Cche: 4 MB
2 gig RAM
667 Mhz bus
Lost is not in HD. Click on "Launch the Player". Do not click on "Lost". Click on "Watch Now". Wait for it to display the options, then select "now watch episodes in ABC HD streaming. You will be given the choice of: Pushing Daisies, Private Practice, Dirty Sexy Money, Ugly Betty, Grey's Anatomy or Desparate Housewives to watch in High Def.
Please try it this way and report back. Thanks
