Rumor: Is Apple's 'Brick' A Mac Mini Redesign?

Now that is nice.:)

I called Steve the other -- you know, just to chat -- and I got around to asking him about the mini.

He said Apple was ready to introduce upgrades to the mini, but they couldn't get around to doing it because they found the posts on this thread way too entertaining.

Some months went by and when they remembered that they were supposed to introduce the new mini's they realized they were already outdated.

So Steve tells me that they are back to the drawing board. But don't worry, he promises new mini's by this time next year, or the year after, depending on how long it takes to get this thread up to 200 pages.

Eee Box as Macmini Alternative?

I am looking forward for the complete specs for the new Eee Box and whether a it can be transformed to a Hackintosh. Eee Box will have at least a 802.11n.

When WILL this thread die?!? The Mac mini is not going away.

It certainly won't die whilst the future of the machine in still in question.
Without either a significant update or cancellation, the speculation will continue - as will this thread.

It'll probably continue for at least a short while afterwards, too. And a minor-only update will probably not slow down the speculation much, either. (Although it'd suit my buying plans, as long as it reached realistically updated spes)

Certainly is ...I'd buy one in a heartbeat for sure.

If Apple where to release this , what sort of price do you think it would/should be ?

Wow i like it too... just give us 2x DVI, or even better (see how much ports this card has?):

In all honesty I'd seen the size of this thread and had been ignoring it despite my great interest in a mini update, but for some reason the other day I opened it and now I am in the process of reading the backlog. Great.

Yes. It is a Gainward Radeon 4650 (or 4670?). Anyway, it a budget card for about 80-100 $... The 4650 costs about 70-80 $.

ahh the new 4650/4670 .. finally released and the prices don't translate apple like into euro prices

hardly surprising the 4670 for 73 euro is sold out alread at the webshop of my choice ;)

What? You all are kidding me right? The cheese grater? STILL??

Let's not dress up the MacMini as something it isn't.

Haven't posted in a while, but I've been reading... Man you all are desperate. The Mac Mini as we know it is dead. Apple's next move is to pretend to act all economy friendly with an even more pointlessly skinny MacMini/Nano/Air at the "bargain price" of $499... which I remind you was the original price of the Mac Mini (which had discrete graphics). In reality, they could be using a last-gen desktop processor in a generic case with generic RAM and a cheap graphics card and sell it for $399, but "No, Apple won't sell 'dreck' " even though decent-quality mobile parts are less reliable than even cheap desktop parts...

*rolls eyes*

If it wasn't for OS X, I would've switched by now. Guess that's why I built a hack.

I have to agree, making a Mac mini as illustrated would be silly. Miniaturizing the five-year-old Power Mac case to make a little computer with no more features than the mini already has? Doubtful. That doesn't mean I wouldn't buy one if it existed with improved mini specs for the right price but I think it's very very unlikely we'll see anything like this.

Even though I posted that pic, I also agree. If that was the new Mini, yes, I'd buy it. However, since I'd be putting it on a skinny shelf on an entertainment center, I'd rather go with the current form factor. I wouldn't mind an aluminum case, though. Something like this:

as has been said over and over in this thread, it is pointless to make the mini smaller unless you can provide at least some of the key elements we are mostly looking for, ie, memory and video (not to mention faster and larger hard drives).

Frankly, the current form factor works for me, I am getting desperate for an update to my G4 mini!
