I'm looking at an exploded view of the Mini with logic board part numbers on Apple's service site. The exploded view is part of the Service Guide for the 2014 Mini. The RAM IS NOT upgradeable. There are 9 logic board part numbers to cover all the CPU and RAM configs (up to 32 GB of RAM, though it starts at 8 GB, not the 4 that is on the Apple store).

The exploded view does not show any RAM slots (nor does a picture of the logic board) and it does not show any RAM sticks. There is no info in the service manual (or the take-apart procedure) for removal of the memory modules, it's not one of the steps.

There ARE 2 storage drive connections but one is used by the flash storage (which also occupies the LOWER slot) and the other is then available for a second drive.

"Previously the Mac mini was popular because it had easy to access memory – so you could add more RAM if you wanted to. Unfortunately the new Mac mini will not be this flexible, Apple has told us you will not be able to add more RAM after purchase as you could previously.

Apple has gone to some lengths to make it harder to get into the Mac mini - despite the box not having changed Apple has removed the access point from the bottom, deliberately changing the bottom of the unit so that users can not get to RAM.

As a result it would seem that the user upgrade possibilities are gone, despite the fact that there is extra space for drive inside. Apple told us you can configure the Mac mini on the store to have two drives but it still will not be user upgradable at a later date.

Regarding there being no user upgradeable RAM Apple referred to it’s: “Great memory compression tech," that the RAM benefits from."

It's not looking very good at the moment>

cfedu, that was something I missed as I was focusing on the RAM and HDD procedures. In order to remove the bottom cover you need a suction cup. It no longer rotates for removal, it pulls straight up.

As I noted in my post before yours, it is not possible to upgrade the RAM.

It's a shame that the Mini has become closed. I guess I will be making a Hackintosh Nuc once broadwell comes out. If it becomes a pain I might just have to switch back to windows. I'm getting sick just thinking about having to use windows again i'm going to vomit!

The Next mini will be a complete redesign, all closed and glued together!! It will be half or a third the hight of the Airport extreme.

so the 699 model with nothing added looks best for me.

As I
A) won't use a vm in this machine
B) I wanted better graphics
C) I am attaching a pegasus r-6 that I own

But if you wanted a quad f you
If you wanted to add ram f you
If you wanted to add a drive f you

Man I am so glad I built a killer windows 7 machine this winter and have room to put it in my HT room.

That's funny because I spoke with two reps that both said it's not possible. You have to buy the amount of RAM you need and that's it. No upgrades possible. I'm hoping they're talking out of their....

I asked yesterday as well and the Apple sales representative said it wasn't possible.

This was a question i was going to ask.Bearing in mind people in the know seem to get round all this stuff ;looking at utube videos.:)But then again why didn,t people get 16gb of ram in the first place.
