One thing that may push Mini upgrades: The AMD 780G. It appears to be a superb integrated graphics solution, much superior in performance and features than the Intel X3100/X3500. I'm sure a mobile version will follow soon. In response Intel might push its customers to upgrade as quickly as possible to the X4500, which would be a good move for Mini fans.

That is correct! I would even love to see them using the 780G with GPU and CPU from AMD. Energy efficient and HD 1080p decoding support built in as well as PCIE2.0 (http://www.techwarelabs.com/reviews/processors/780g-and-4850e/). Intels IGP so far are widely used but lack real performance. I hope we will se an update soon!

You need to have a little more patience. The Apple Store usually goes down for Tuesday updates between 11:00 - 14:00 GMT, so there's at least another 3 hours to wait :)

nope, you need to learn that little things accompany a release, such as leaks of new model numbers, and weblogs picking up new apple devices, this happened with both the Air and Macbooks a few days before their tuesday release

And they have surprised us on Tuesdays lately also. It can happen.

I think they're waiting for WWDC 2008 to update the mini and iMac. They're saving the best for the show.

Glad I got my 2.0 refurb three weeks ago. I'd hate to be still waiting for something to happen.

Really, other than waiting for a *possible* video card upgrade, (which may come with a price increase) I'm thrilled with my "jumping the gun" purchase.

What is the release date on this mac mini?

Can anyone predict the release date like give me an estimate or something. This comp. is currently in manufacturing stage. How long did it take for other computers that were currently beginning their manufacturing stage to the time when it actually hits stores. does anyone think it will be around $399? I want to know cause i am waiting to buy one. i think if you buy it at the applestor you get a free file transfer

I'm really looking at the mini so I can start my little media center. I don't know if I should buy new or used. If it's new, I'd rather wait to see what's around the corner.

I strongly think that it's not the case. Intel will debut Montevina by then, and they would debut this new platform if they are going to make a show.

It's hard to predeict. Last update of Mini was a silent one. But I'd think that it'll be in the upcoming two weeks. Apple usually makes the computers ready by the time it launches them ( except the debut of MBA ), so I'd think that you'd buy them in the same week if not the same day.

$399 is a dream that we all share. I really hope that Apple would update and slash the pricing of the mini by $200 bringing it to the level 399/599. I'm gonna buy a mini around July for my parents, so I want to know that, too.

WWDC is for developers, there is no special attraction for developers on having an updated mini or iMac. While they can be used just fine, there is nothing special that can not be done with other Macs.

While I could be wrong, I would venture that the update is likely to happen in the next 3 weeks.

A 499 and 599 model will certainly push the models out.

I just want X3100, 11N, new chip (2.1), maybe FW800 and a second Gigabit Ethernet port, but FW800 and 2nd Ethernet port not likely.

i don't think so. resellers (like Futureshop here in Canada) have had the iMacs on sale since almost 2 weeks, and they even extended the sale from the original end date. this means they don't know either when apple is coming out with new iMacs/Minis, but they know it's happening soon... they're not going to have their sale continue to June.

who knows... maybe it will be tomorrow? the iMacs in 2006 (when they debuted the first 24" white iMac) were released on a wednesday... don't give in just yet... and for those who bought recently, well, you've had several rumors and the macrumor's buyer's guide telling you not to buy now, but it's gonna be funny to watch the "Apple Releases Penryn iMacs and Mac Minis" thread receive negative ratings from all the recent buyers ;)

lol with what

like I said no update nothing to see here folks, move along to next tuesday:(

In a way I'm a little bit happy that there was no update this week. That made my "last-minute" Mac mini purchase just a week less obsolete (although the hardware is already one generation behind).

Title: High Definition Content Playback on the Intel Mac Mini

it's a good reality check for people still waiting to buy a mac mini. It is powerful enough. You don't need x3100 to play "1080p". It's quite good news, actually.

That makes the new, beefier mini all the more attractive... soon one can get a reasonably potent Macmini brain (2.4GHz C2D, 800 GHz bus, X3100 graphics processor, maxed out with 4 GB RAM) and add on a super-nice 24" matte-surface S-IPS monitor (read, NEC 2490WUXi) and be totally thrilled with an awesome 24" Photoshop workstation for just under $2k! Versatile set-up. Top-deck monitor. Great news. :D

Yabut for $1.5K you can get a quad core cpu and and a 8800GT. I know you have to use Vista to do it. But why does Apple expect people to pay so much more and get some much less. The teeny form factor ? The huge OS X tax ?

Thanks for that article gjarold. I'm still running my fairly new 2.4ghz Imac and an old XP machine side by side but I just want to research a little more before I make my upcoming mini take on the media responsibilities.

There were no updates this tuesday and i was wondering how likely it is that there will be an iMac update this week!

I don't know if i should just buy the iMac know or should i wait for an update!!
If i should wait how long would it be.
I know it is hard to guess, but i just wanted a logical estimate!

I have been waiting for this update so i am just wondering if it would be worth the update or the iMac is good enough now!
:mad::apple:

If you guys just want a kick ass media player that plays it all with aplump look for the iStar Mini, it uses sigma designs latest HD chipset.

Im a greedy b*stard so im getting a new mini and the iStar:cool:

Just wait for the update. Think about it. The longer you wait the more bucks you'll have in your pocket just incase there's a slight price increase. And, you'll have the latest model. Don't rush it.

Thanks a lot chkdg8 for the advice
yeh i think i will wait for the update
hopefully i won't have to wait that long:)

What do you think the specs will be of the iMac when they update it

My guess:
2.4ghz penryn standard then next would be 2.8 ghz and the top model would have 3ghz
upgraded graphics (hopefully they change from Ati to nividia)
2gb standard on the $1500 models and up
500gb hard drive standard on $1500 models and up

Maybe even blueray! lol prob not;)
