Looks legit to me. The Box Set version has to be distinguished because the $169 Box Set version is the only retail disc that's a full install. The $29 and $9.95 discs are upgrades.

The disc's may be legit. However the procurement of them? Well that's another matter entirely.

Let's face it.... how on earth do you stumble upon a mac box set of 10.6 before it's released anywhere legitimately?

If they are the real discs, I'll stick with either A) they work themselves at Apple in Hollyhill Ind Est, Cork or that B) they are selling them after procuring them from a dodgy source, who possibly works at the forementioned.

Too much co-incidence that the seller is residing in Cork otherwise.

(lol) In the search box they have typed, "It was a 'trick.'" (it's a word used especially on this site, literally meaning "fishing", but meaning they they were played by ("reeled in" by) someone having fun watching people in the thread over react to the innocence of their initial post.

At this rate we should create a prize for the best, fake Snow Leopard GM evidence. :D

they said the upgrade PRICES are $29 and $9.95. they never said these were UPGRADE ONLY install discs.

They have said those discs require you to have Leopard. I got the "fulfillment" 10.5 drop-in disc with my Mac that was an upgrade-only disc to be used in conjunction with the full Tiger install, so there is that precedent. The apparent change this time is they're selling the upgrade disc to anybody.

As for eBay guy, even if he has a PC he could get the build number on Boot Camp by launching setup.exe on the Snow Leopard disc and checking the first screen. That wouldn't be the same as the Mac OS X build number but it might be useful info to somebody.

As stated before, I've been running 10a432 just fine for a week or two. However, I have noticed there are a few things missing. The new stacks browsing feature is intermittent at best. Tethering in 64 bit doesn't work. And, there are no quicktime preferences (pretty big deal!)

can you please share that wallpaper? :)

Sorry but another hijack here.

Totally off topic but how do you take screenshots. Newbie to Macs here. :):)

My order still says ships 28th August by the way.

Shift+Command+4

First, I hope Apple put the pre-order up tomorrow.

Second, will someone who has one of these early discs tell us the build to put all this nonsense to rest. I love rumors, but this is even driving me crazy. Right now, we have no confirmation has to what the actual GM build is.

this is most likely fake.

There's no way in hell this could be real. I used to work for an apple retail store. Whenever there's a disc in the box that's usually not there, that means the night before they were dropped in. They are called drop in kits "diks" we called them. the night before, like five or so employees are picked to work for a night shift. We cut the seals with a razor and stick the "dik" in. they are then closed with a brand new seal provided by corporate. Managers keep strict eyes on us when doing this. This never happens a week ahead of time. Only the day before the release, and only with the remaining inventory we have in the store. We then explain to the customers the next day that the boxes were approved to be open by corporate and that there's a "dik" in their computer box. I can tell you, I still have friends that work for apple retail, and there have been no such occurrences yet. Plus there's absolutely no way in hell apple would release a version of snow leopard that can't even boot into 64 bit properly yet.

new quicktime sucks im considering removing it altogether and putting the icon on my quicktime7
:apple::apple::apple::)

some people that were screaming they want it now are the same people that that are calling it a rush job. a torrential flood of illogic.

This is a strange release. It seems like a lot is happening for an August 28th release, but at the same time who knows if the pictures are real. I'm one of those ultra excited people, but I need to calm down. Until Apple announces something I just can't believe it.

Too much speculation

I can't believe you guys. It is OBVIOUS that Apple is not releasing it August 28.

They officially say that it is shipping some time in September. And they usually like to give some time (a week?) to announce a countdown on their homepage. Mistakes have been on the Apple store before...

Any bugs that still exist are likely to get fixed before it is actually released.

I would be very surprised if Apple releases it early with hardly any "get ready" fanfare, with bugs, with that stupid picture of a Snow Leopard on the install icon, with a box that looks different from the one on their website, that they screwed up and sent the wrong restore disk to some guy in Japan, if they don't update the default wallpaper again and make a new intro movie, etc., etc. It would just be too uncharacteristic.

None of these unlikely rumors are from reliable sources. So just watch Apple's press releases and home page for the real info.

you remember how the apple support team was trained for snow leopard?

i asked them and they said if i wipe my hard drive, full installs would still work with the up-to-date disk or the $29 one

I couldn't agree more with you! Never in the history of Apple a product has been released before the announced date. With an official launch dated on September on their own website, there is no way it can be released before September, no matter how ready the product is. Delays have been seen before as it happened with Leopard, but it is unthinkable to see it before September.

I understand how badly you want the new OS, but stop dreaming. Nothing is going to happen on September 28! You'll see!

Command-Shift-3: Snapshot of entire desktop including menubar and second monitor (if present).

Command-Shift-4: Gives crosshairs to select a specific area to "grab"

Command-Shift-4 then space: Changes the cross-hairs to a camera icon so when you hover the cursor over windows, menus, icons etc, it will go blue indicating what you'll be taking a screenshot of.

There's also the Grab application in the Utilities folder as well.
